Shout Out

Shout out to Rozelta Boyd, Sharon Ennis, Alissa Ferro, Kyriaki Iatrou, Craig Melzer, Noraa Ricketts, Sylvia Rua, Charles Tewksbury and their WIN block students who participated in a 3-month beta project, testing the “Adolescent Learning Program”, now known as “PowerUp”, an online ELA intervention tool. Their hard work and willingness to do whatever was necessary to support student achievement truly demonstrated, “We care about our school.

Shout out to Katie Donnelly who transitioned into k2 so nicely upon Ms. Parks returned. Katie is also working hard collecting student data for parent conferences. She is always focused on the students.

Shout out to the following teachers for caring about the Curley After School Program (CASP) and letting us use their classrooms after school. We appreciate you all. Mr. DePalm, Ms. Bourgeault, Mrs. Youman, Ms. Alves, Mrs. Pina-Pitts, Ms. Drakes, Ms. Taylor-Knight, Mr. Cardoso, Mrs. Locke, Ms. Garcia, Mrs. Cullen, Ms. Shea, Ms. Green, Ms. Wright and Ms. Phillips. 

Shout out to the School Climate Team for planning and organizing a FABULOUS "Half Way to Last Day" party on Friday evening. A special thanks to Genet Mehari, Meg Nason, Adrian Ward-Jackson, Kristen Mitchell, Laurie Ciardi and Julie Feeney for all the details that made the party fun, from table decorations to food, you did not miss a thing. Also thanks to DJ Laura Merdkhanian for playing the best of the 90's music. The highlight of the evening was when "It Takes Two" by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock played and everyone present was dancing! Song is linked in case anyone is tired after the game tonight and needs a pick me up on the way to work tomorrow.

ACCESS

Almost done!!

All paper based testing and make up have to be completed by end of the day tomorrow. Any student that required computer base testing have until Wednesday end of the school day. Waverly will email the few teachers who have students that need to be completed. Thank you to everyone for your hard work and cooperation during this time.

Middle School Valentine's Dance

The Valentines Dance coming on Feb 16th. The dance will be used to fundraise for buses for Canobie Lake. For the dance, we are asking for your help. Please contact Nina Wessen and Maria Amy-Moreno with questions.

You can help us in the following ways:

• Dance admittance will be $1. Bracelets will be in your mailboxes by the week of Feb 12th. Please collect money and pass out bracelets on Friday, Feb. 16. If you would like, please drop off money and the amount fundraised to Nina in 209 and I can collect and give the money to Katie. 
• We are selling water bottles for $1 to further fundraise for Canobie. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO TELL STUDENTS THAT WATER WILL BE SOLD AT THE DANCE FOR $1. 
• There is a strict rule that students MAY NOT RUN in the gym during the dance. If caught running, students will be asked to leave. (We had a safety issue that occurred at the last dance). 
• We need more active supervisors during the dance. Please actively supervise and monitor the students during this time. We want to ensure the safety of our students and of the equipments. 
• Lastly, we will pass out music forms to all teachers on Monday. Please take the time to pass out these forms to your students and have them write in 1-2 appropriate songs that they would like to hear at the dance. We will not necessarily play every single song, but we will attempt to do so if the song is appropriate.

The Health and Wellness Committee will meet on Tuesday, February 6th from 7:15am-8:00am in Room 203. All staff are welcome!

The week of February 5th teams in grades 3-8 should schedule time for Lindsey Morgan to review STAR data. She has reach out to each team via email as well.  There are many data slides that will help to support this conversation. Be sure to check out your current students and even some former students as well. Help us congratulate students for exceptional growth!

February - Black History Month

February marks the start of Black History Month. How will you address this with your students? How can you ensure that we are not glossing over it and only celebrating in February? Below is a resource that was shared from former Curley teacher, Layla Hijab Cable (laylahcable@gmail.com).

The National Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Our Schools is launching an online gallery for student and community work during the Week of Action: Feb. 5th - Feb. 9th. Calling all educators, youth workers, young people, students, caregivers, parents, dreamers, activists, revolutionaries! Join us in imagining the world and schools we want to see. Invite, share, and respond to the prompt:
“In a school where Black Lives Matter, we…”
Send the creative responses whether images, words, video, audio, etc. to blmphled@gmail.com. We will be adding contributions to our publication. We ask that you give us your location and what age or grade is submitting to be shared along with the work.

Nominations Open - Boston Educator of the Year

The City of Boston, BPS, and the BTU invite our stakeholders to nominate exceptional educators and to honor their work and dedication through the 2018 Boston Educator of the Year Award. Bulletin Boards Updated by Friday, February 9th 

Bulletin boards communicate the values of our school. Bulletin boards are a window into our classrooms that allow us to share the teaching and learning happening inside. Bulletin boards send a message to students that their work is important and valued here. Please update your bulletin board by Friday, February 9th. You must also include the Curley template which describes the learning your students are doing that links to the instructional focus.

CPT at a Glance

Thanks to the staff who have provided feedback we will have a weekly update about what should be covered at CPT. The CPT at a Glance document will be updated each week. Lindsey Morgan will support teams in grades 3-8 on analyzing STAR reading data. 

K2, 1st and 2nd Grade

The middle of the year testing window is open from January 22nd to March 2nd. If you have running records that show a student is reading on or above your grade's instructional level benchmark, you do not need to do the BAS with them. If a student is reading below the instructional level benchmark, you need to do the BAS to find the highest instructional level and their hard level.
The levels are as follows:
K2 - on or above instructional C
1st grade - on or above instructional G
2nd grade - on or above instructional L
