Climate Team 2020 Plan & Prize

Big 6 Refresher - During the month of January all staff will be reviewing The Big 6 Rules at the Curley with their students.  This can happen at specials, homerooms and during small group learning time. We will be completing a BINGO Board. The first team to receive BINGO (5 horizontal, diagonal, vertical) in each grade band (K-2, 3-5 & 6-8) will receive a lunch for the adults in February. The first class in each grade band (K-2, 3-5 & 6-8) to complete the whole board will get a class party sponsored by the admin team. Reach out to your Climate rep if you have any questions.

Bulletin Boards

All Bulletin Boards must be updated by Friday, February 7th.  All bulletin boards should have the Curley template posted with it. Please be mindful that the boards should have grade level work posted that connects to a content learning standard. This is a perfect time to update board prior to families attending a Family Engagement event. This is a great project for a student teacher and/or a set of responsible students. It is important that things are stapled up in all corners. Please note that you can share whole group learning (number talk, sample of writing process, response to reading etc....) The work does have to be perfect we prefer authenticity. Bulletin Boards make our hallways feel warm and welcoming and help us celebrate our students.

ACCESS

Thank you to everyone's attention to detail about ACCESS testing. As of Friday we have completed Listening, Reading & Writing in all grades. Please let Pete or Waverly know if you have any materials you need to return or have any students that have not completed testing. This week we will conclude the speaking test in all grades. Please make sure to see you grade level representative for your tickets, and headphones.

    An Appeal

The African American History month celebration is a yearly event which is vitally important to our community. To make it happen this year, we need someone to organize the event. Online meetings, hallway talks, whatever you can do to get the ball rolling. As one of 6 performing arts teachers, I am able to support both administratively (flyers, announcements, other) and provide a tech team, but I need someone to get things going. You have two other performing arts teachers (Ms. Alves, Ms. Untermyer) who already have pieces ready to go. Ms. Brown and Mr. Bashir have ideas too. It just takes an organizer and Ms. Knight simply can't be that person this year. It is important that we keep this tradition alive. It has been running in some form since 2006 and I don't want to see the light go out now. Thanks for listening...

      Free Eye Glasses

On 1/8/20 and 1/9/20 a program called 20/20 will be at the Curley School offering eye exams for students in grades 4-8. Any students found to need glasses can choose a pair at no cost. We are attaching a consent form which is only for students in grades 4-8 that needs to be filled out if the student is to be examined. Students who do not need to be examined can still pick out a pair of glasses at no cost if they bring in a recent prescription for eye glasses.

Students in grades K0-3rd Grade cannot be examined but can still get a free pair of glasses if they bring in a current prescription. Teachers in grades K0-3rd can send home the flyer from 20/20 but do not send home the consent form as they cannot be examined.

Teachers who know of students who should be wearing glasses but do not have them should make an effort to reach out to the student's parents to take advantage of this. They just need to bring in a current prescription no matter what grade they are in. Please see the nurse's with any questions ksantana@bostonpublicschools.org or apumphret@bostonpublicschools.org.

      Shopping to Support Our School

Thursday, November 21st to get a jump on your holiday shopping while supporting the Curley. Stores on Centre Street including On Centre, Suzannah, Kitchen Witch, Hatched, and Tres Gatos are participating. Let them know you are “with the Curley" and they will donate 10% of your purchase back to the school.

      Winter Coat Drive

With temperatures continuing to drop, the guidance team is making finding each student a winter coat before the holiday break a priority. While the SPC coat drive is hugely helpful towards this aim, we recognize that the two students per class limit might make it difficult to meet our goal. We are therefore working with a community partner to accumulate additional coats.
If you have a student who might need a coat who has not already turned in a coat drive form, please add them to the Google doc below so that we are able to get him/her one!

      Bulletin Boards

All Bulletin Boards must be updated by Wednesday, November 27th.  All bulletin boards should have the Curley template posted with it. Please be mindful that the boards should have grade level work posted that connects to a learning standard.
