Shout out to Sugeily Santos for organizing an event for 8th grade families to begin to think about the high school choice process! This is an intense process and families appreciate having information and support as they plan for their child’s future. Also thanks to Tenacity and City Year for supporting us with rolling out the event!

Shout out to our Curley Junior Coaches Azariah Mamousette 5th Mrs. Quatrale, Janiah Saint Germain 5th Mrs. Green, Jaslene Mangual 5th Mrs. Green, Luis Contreras 5th Mrs. Daly, Katherine Jimenez 5th Mrs. Quatrale, Yoscairy Tejeda 4th Mrs. Strait, Jack Sharpiro 4th Mrs. Strait, JoJo Lombos 4th Mrs. Tefera, Juritza Bayona 5th Mrs. Moran, Julian Jardon 5th Mrs. Moran, Jayven Correria 4th Mrs. Phillips. The JC program is a self-esteem building, responsibility teaching and leadership-training program. It is an exciting opportunity for students to have a role of leadership and to positively impact their school. A small team of 11 Junior Coaches will be responsible for supporting K2-5th grade outside at recess everyday. Coach Jacqui and the recess team will be working to develop JC’s during this time ensuring it is productive. We will be setting goals with them, guiding them to resolve conflicts, and supporting them as they lead games outside.

Shout out to Pam Yosca, Curley Parent, for organizing an amazing event for students in our Library. Caldecott Medal Winner, Javaka Steptoe came to meet with students and his story of being an author and illustrator. He read his book, Radiant Child, aloud to students and they acted out the scenes. Thank you for bring this experience to our community and ensuring students all received signed copies of the book! Also thank you to Joanne Mylett, Lindsey Wright, Debbie Bryson, Kiki Iatrou, Dawn Avery and Lesley Peck-Oser for preparing your students for this once in a lifetime experience!

Fundraiser 10/31/17

Our 7th Geography students will be distributing envelopes with bracelets tomorrow and hyping up our Pajama Day Fundraiser. Many students have already contributed money and donated supplies are beginning to stack up. Tuesday's Fundraiser promises to be a huge success. Thanks for all of your support! If you need any additional bracelets or envelopes, please contact Mr. Melzer: cmelzer@bostonpublicschools.org.

Mr. Melzer and Ms. Wessen are doing a combined fundraiser to help the people of Puerto Rico. Mr. Melzer will be hosting a Pajama Day on Oct. 31. Students will be dropping off envelopes with recognition bracelets inside. Please collect money for Pajama Day and give each student who donated a recognition bracelet. The goal is to raise $5000. Please encourage donations of $5 or more to help us reach our Curley Cares Goal.

Ms. Wessen will be collecting supplies for the Puerto Rican towns of Levittown, Utuado and Naguabo. Items can be dropped off or picked up. The drop off site is in room 209. If you need a student to pick up donation items from your classroom, please contact Ms. Wessen at nly@bostonpublicschools.org. We will be collecting items from Oct. 30-Nov. 3.

Halloween

The Curley K-8 will not have a Halloween celebration during the school day. As a community we are focused on health and wellness and therefore we ask that all candy remain at home. We are also asking that students leave all costumes, masks, face painting and clown paraphernalia at home as well. Thank you in advance for your support around this matter. Attached is our Celebrations Policy.

Attendance

Attendance and student enrollment are a district priority. Jessica and Sugeily have created an Attendance Team including several interns and City Year Corp Members. Please see the attached guidelines for Homeroom teachers regarding attendance and documentation. Please feel free to reach out to Jessica or Sugeily for more information and/or guidance.

More Than Words is a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. On December 2nd, they will host a $1 book night. They have a vast selection of titles as well as a warehouse and online service.

November 15, 2017 Curley Cares Student Awards

Please recognize students who are doing their best to support the Curley Cares way by using THIS FORM to submit names so your students can receive an award at our Wednesday, November 15, 2017 Curley Cares assemblies.
These awards are intended to reinforce positive student behaviors in support of the Curley Cares rules and the expectation is that every Curley K8 student should receive at least one award each year. With this in mind, please refer to THIS LIST to see those students who have already received award(s) this school year .
If you'd like to give more than 3 awards, please coordinate with your grade-level colleagues such as specialists or other staff. If it is for a larger group of students (such as a sports team, etc.) please email Kate (kdavis3@bostonpublicschools.org) directly. Please SUBMIT awards by 7:00pm Thursday, November 9, 2017. Clarifying CPT

We have heard from teams regarding the constraints of CPT. We have taken that feedback and given more time back to teams with expanded topics that you were seeking time for. Please check out this document to further understand how the weeks will be broken down moving forward. Also you can also check out the CPT At A Glance Document as a friendly reminder. Teacher Facilitators will still support and lead teams during this time. For example, this coming week, the week of Oct. 23, the Climate Teacher Facilitator will be leading the team through the climate topic. Next week, Oct. 30 will start with Week A.

Student Success Team (SST)

SST is a multidisciplinary team that supports and empowers teachers to develop a system of interventions that encourages student success through shared collaboration, resources and expertise within our building. All forms can be accessed in the Student Success Team Folder within the Google Drive. Please use these tools and review them as a way to help you further understand the SST process. Grade Level SST liaison's will be reaching out this week to schedule their first visit.

CASP Entrance

Curley Community, Please be advised that the CASP entrance is only for students enrolled in the Before School Program. When you ring the door bell at CASP you are taking a staff member away from supervising students. If you do not have your badge please use the main entrance in the lower and upper school. Thank you.

Guidance Updates

• 6th Grade Unity Day (Remix Day): We are excited to inform you about our Sixth Grade Unity Day. This social-emotional learning day will be hosted on Tuesday, October 31st for the sixth grade students. The purpose of this day is to educate our sixth grade students on various topics including substance use, mental health, and bullying prevention. We are hopeful that this event will aid in building healthy and collaborative relationships in the sixth grade community. Please note, we will use the auditorium for most of the day (8:30-10:30 & 1:00-3:00pm) and the Playing Field from 1:00 - 2:00pm.
