Shout Out

Shout out to Melanie Bourgeault our new music teacher! Melanie hosted a fabulous event today and was able to receive many free supplies to enhance her music education program. Please stop by her room (006) and check it all out! Ernie Boch Jr. donated everything and even added an electric guitar and amplifier! We all look forward to seeing the music program flourish this year! Here are some great pictures.

Curley Shares

Our first Curley Share is October 15th.  Here is the schedule and the buddy room pairings.  Please submit your awards by Tuesday, October 13th.  If you haven’t already, please practice and review the rituals with your students.  This month’s share will be hosted by City Year and the Climate Team. Classes will sign up for one share during the year beginning in November. Please sign up for a share here by Friday, October 16th.  We encourage you to partner with your buddy class for your share.  Check out this menu of ideas for sharing.

Curley Shares Awards

Please submit the names of up to three (3) students you would like to nominate for Curley Cares awards.Our goal is that each Curley K-8 student will receive a reward by the end of the school year. Each homeroom teacher should try to give 3 student awards each month (one for each "We Care About" rule - ...Ourselves, ...Each Other, ...Our School). ALL staff (not just homeroom teachers) can nominate students to receive awards - so work with specialty teachers, paraprofessionals, WIN team members, administrative staff, and after school staff to find ways to ensure that all students are recognized by the end of the year. Picture Day

Picture Day this year will take place October 27 for grades K-5 and October 28 for grades 6-8. We will have a make up day for elementary grade students on October 28 and for middle schools by appointment. Middle School families can make arrangements with Jennifer Connelly at (781) 696-1138.

We would like to encourage all students to fill out their picture forms and take individual pictures. This year, we will also take homeroom pictures for grades 7th and 8th for $10 a picture. If your students would like to order one, please write it on the order form and attach $10.

I am attaching a copy of the schedule for grades K-8. Please bring all elementary grade students through the Lower School main office and then they'll proceed to the front court yard. Middle School students need to be brought in front of the school through the main office Upper school. They'll have their picture taken in front of the school on Centre St. Please let Mr. Diaz know ASAP if you have any scheduling conflicts, questions, and concerns.

Fall Fling

Don't forget the Fall Fling next Friday night from 5:30pm-8:00pm. Bring your families and help support our school! Also don't forget to encourage families to sell tickets.

Shout out to Sharon Pina-Pitts. Sharon is typically the first and last car in the parking lot each day. She works for both our before and after school program and is willing to do whatever it takes for our students to be successful. Thank you for all your hard work each and every day!

Nominate Students for Curley Cares Awards!

Click on the form below to nominate students to receive Curley Cares awards during our First Curley Shares assemblies next Thursday, October 15 in the Upper School auditorium. These awards are our way of recognizing the wonderful students we work with every day. Students who exhibit (or are making progress towards more consistently exhibiting) the many ways we care about ourselves, each other, and our school. Please be sure to provide details about what the student has done to earn the award as your comments will be shared with students during the assemblies. Note: you must be logged into you BPS Google account to access the form; please email Kate Davis with any questions or comments - thank you.

Nominations are Due Tuesday, October 13, 2015 by 4:00pm

In order for student awards to be presented during our first SY15/16 Curley Shares assemblies on October 15, 2015 staff are asked to submit their nominations no later than 4:00pm on Tuesday, October 13 as we need time to process the data and print awards.

Sign Up for Curley Shares

A shared Google sign up sheet (CurleySharesSignUp) is now available for staff to reserve a spot to present at Curley Shares assemblies. We ask that grade-level and buddy-classroom teams take a look at the assembly sign-up/schedule together and for each teacher or team to choose a time this year to present at a Curley Share.
Remember, Curley Shares are about giving students an opportunity to demonstrate their learning in front of their peers and lower/upper grade buddies. Teachers can plan their Curley Shares as a collaboration with other classes, independently, or with specialties.  Note: when signing up, please be sure you are recording your homeroom on the correct sheet (look at the tabs along the bottom to find your grade level).

Music Drives Us Supports The Curley School

Tomorrow Ernie Boch Jr. will be here to present our new music teacher Ms. Bourgeault with some basic music classroom supplies that consist of carpet squares, buckets for drumming, drums, xylophone, etc… Ms. Pradas and Ms. Javaloyes's classes will join us for this presentation at 11am. Lost and Found

A lost and found bin has been established outside of the nurse’s office.  If a child has lost or misplaced an item please have them check the bin. Starting in November the bin will be emptied on the first of the month. Unclaimed items will be donated to Good Will or washed and kept in the Nurse’s Office as extra clothing for Curley students.  Thanks in advance for your support!

Centre Street Parking Lot

We have been notified that new signs were placed in the parking lot across the street from the school on Centre St. This lot has been converted to two hour parking. Please don't park there if you are working a full day. Also note that neighbors are upset about this change and are working to petition it back to the way it was.

Northeastern

Welcome an undergraduate student observer into your classroom! Northeastern University's undergraduate education program prepares elementary and secondary candidates to teach in urban classrooms. Our students take courses related to curriculum, pedagogy, inclusion, equity, literacy, culturally responsive practice, and educational psychology; each of these courses focuses on urban education and includes fieldwork in local classrooms. At the end of their coursework, students complete their student teaching in an urban classroom; their student teaching placement often grows out of an effective early fieldwork experience.During pre-practicum placements, Northeastern students

 Spend 2-4 hours per week in the classroom

 Can do a combination of observation and hands-on assistance

 Meet with Northeastern professors weekly to discuss their learning

School Climate Team Meeting

Reminder that the School Climate Team will meet tomorrow from 3:00pm-4:15pm in the Upper School room 212. Please send a team representative.

ANet

ANet testing is fast approaching. This school year all ANet testing will be done online.The A1 window for ELA will be from October 13 - 17 and Math from October 19 - 23. We would like to conduct a practice session with grades 3 and 4 on Wednesday. On the drive, you will find a folder entitled ANet 2015 - 2016.This folder contains the testing schedule for A1, a document with a URL for a sample online ELA and Math assessment, and other ANet information. If you have any comments or concerns, please contact Adrian Ward-Jackson.

Fall Fling

Just a reminder to come and support the SPC at the Fall Fling on Friday, October 16th from 5:30pm-8:00pm. It is a great family event and you are all invited with your families. All the money raised goes towards programming at the Curley. If you are interested we are still selling raffle tickets.
