Shout Out

Jesse Cardoso for playing new artwork in the lobby on Centre St and creating a buzz at arrival on Friday. Students were excited to see their work displayed and families and staff commented on how welcoming the lobby artwork and new archways make visitors feel! Thanks!

Cork Boards

Connie Redden has 4 small cork boards she is looking to pass on to a teacher in need.

Bulletin Boards

A new instructional bulletin board should be up by Monday, November 30th. We know that not all boards have been hung up yet and we apologize for this. Please know that we have not forgotten about you! There has been regular reminders sent to facilities to get these boards hung and we are waiting on space in a specific persons schedule to make this happen. You need a special insurance to be able to hang these. Make sure that you are hanging work up inside you class! Also all boards should be accompanied by this form.

INTERNATIONAL WEEK UPDATE

Now that countries have been selected, it’s time to gather resources. This would be a great time to reach out to families! Please contact Amika and/or talk with your City Year Corps member (grades 3-8) if you would like help. Be sure to schedule time(s) with your Big-Little Buddy colleagues to visit one another’s classes on Monday &/or Tuesday, November 23rd/24th. This is when students will teach about their country and stamp visitors’ passports. NEXT PLANNING MEETING: Monday, November 9th, 3-3:30 PM – please join us!

Walkthrough

As part of our professional practice goal we will be tracking whole school improvements in implementing UDL practices. The first of 3 walkthroughs will take place November 10th. A range of classes will be visited by ILT members for approximately 15-20 minutes. During this time, ILT members will be taking low inference observation notes. This walkthrough in not evaluative and data will be shared through the ILT.

Flu Shot

Representatives from Rite Aid will be coming to the Curley School on Tuesday 11/10 to administer Flu Shots to our staff. This Flu Clinic will run from 11am-12:30pm in the Lower School Office conference room. If you would like to receive a Flu Shot, please bring your Health Insurance Card with you that day. Rite Aid accepts 99% of Health Insurances for flu shots. Please direct any questions about the Flu Clinic to the Nurse's Office.

November 25th

We will have an early release on November 25th. This means that we will dismiss students starting at 12:25pm and all adults can dismiss starting at 12:45pm. There will be no after school programming on this day including CASP, Tenacity and City Year.

Middle School 1st Term Grading Window

The first term grading window is open from October 29th until November 12th at 11:59 p.m. If you have any questions or problems, please contact Adrian Ward-Jackson. Also grades close on Friday, November 6th.

Vision Screening

NEEI will be back Monday, November 16th to finish K1 & K2 vision screening and any students who were absent.

Shout Out

Shout out to Mr. Robinson and Ms. Pina-Pitts who support our school each and every day! We appreciate your dedication to our school and for coming each and every day. Your presence is invaluable and you are always able to help out in any situation. Thanks!

Shout out to Christina Burke for all her hard work with the Faculty Senate this year and last year. She stepped down from Faculty Senate this year but has not hesitated to help Ms. Mercado and Ms. Moran when they needed help or had any questions.

Shout out to the Girls Volleyball Team! The team is lead by coaches Bertoni and Willis and the girls won again this evening making them 5-2 overall. An extra shout out to the 8th grade leaders on the team Rubi Medina, Juana Marte and Idryalis Matos for modeling collaboration and effort for their teammates.

Curley Shares

It was a great day with 5 back to back Curley Shares! Teachers at most grade levels have exceeded our expectations for partnering with a buddy classroom and our students are loving their new found friends! Here is a picture that captures it all!

Micah (K2) and James (Gr.5) greet each other at before the start of the assembly. They are buddies and will sit with one another at each assembly and connect at other events throughout the year.

Also it is Friday tomorrow and we will have a staff social at 4pm at Canary Square! Come join us and mingle with colleagues and enjoy each others company.

Water Jugs

Please take all empty water jugs down to the water room next to the teachers room. Some students have been using them as toys in the hallway and we would like to reduce distractions.

Attached is information about accessing PARCC resources that are now available.  You will need to create an account for yourself in order to be able access and examine the material. Resources include released items from last year's PARCC PBA and EOY assessments, rubrics, and samples of student work for math and ELA. Resources also include wonderful formative "instructional tasks" for K2 - Grade 2 also for both math and ELA. There are many other resources there as well and we are just in the beginning stages of exploring them all. Regardless of what the state decides in terms of assessments, we know whatever assessment is chosen or created will need to be aligned with our standards, and all these resources will help us do just that. We hope you find the collection useful!

Field Trip

The nurse's need 2 weeks notice in advance of a field trip and should be given notification of all permission slips that say that the student requires medication during the day. If we have appropriate notification we can go through the list of students attending and determine if there are any medical conditions that staff need to be aware of while they are out of the building. We can also send along a first aid kit and any inhalers/epipens that must accompany the students. Please email Nurse Regan and Pumphret when you are planning your next trip.

The Climate team will meet on Wednesday November 4th from 3:00pm - 4:15pm in room 212. We will also have our monthly staff social at 3pm on Friday at Canary Square. We hope you can join us!

Faculty Senate Meeting

On Wednesday November 4 at 730 in the lower school conference room we will have our  first Faculty Senate Meeting. Faculty Senate can be very instrumental in fostering collaborative work between educators, staff and administration.  There is going to be a Boston Teacher Union organizer to run the first meeting.  I hope everyone can make it. 

AWC Meeting

Thursday afternoon from 3pm-4pm Curley staff and families are welcome to a meeting to discuss AWC and hear about the most up to date information from the district level to assure that all students have opportunities and access.
