Shout Out

Shout out to Laura Merdkhanian for earning the Curriculum Award from the Boston Association for the Education of Young Child (BAEYC)! This is an amazing accomplishment for all of Laura's hard work and she will be recognized at their annual Gala on Friday evening. Congrats!

Shout out to Tristan Maiden for organizing and leading her class in selling coffee at the Autism Awareness Luncheon today to raise money for the autism program. Also thank you to Kristen Haws and Geju Brown for helping staff this event and Wendy Carruthers and Jen Richards joined to support the students!. We appreciate you and promise to stop by Room 115 for coffee!

Wake Up The Earth Parade (WUTE)

Curley K-8 Students, Parents, and Teachers: please join us Saturday, May 6 to represent our school at the 39th annual Wake Up The Earth Parade. We'll meet at 10:30 am outside of Curtis Hall, 20 South Street in JP 02130 (across from the monument), and walk as a group for the (1 mile) parade route; past our school, down to Jackson Square Station, and on to Stony Brook Station. We need volunteers to help carry the art that students and parents created for this years' WUTE. Please remember to wear green or your favorite Curley gear. Boston City Singers

Boston City Singers will be here tomorrow to audition kids for their choir. the following kids should report to room 01 at 11AM. If they are a Kindergarten student I will pick them up from class at 10:45 and return them when they finish the audition. If they are an upper school student and are taking MCAS, they should not report to the music room unless they are finished. No need to rush though because Boston City Singers has their application and will contact them and their families about an audition at another time.

Tech Goes Home @ the Curley!

The families of students in grades 2-8 will have the opportunity to attend a Tech Goes Home course right here at the Curley. Technology Goes Home (TGH) strives to ensure that all residents of the City of Boston are equipped with the tools, training, and access to support 21st century skill development. After successful completion of the program, graduates will have purchased their very own Lenovo Chromebook computer for $50.

Snack Change

Starting today (May 2nd), FFVP snack bags will be picked up at the upper school cafeteria and lower school main office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. 

• All upper school teachers: Please send 1 student to the upper school cafeteria between 9:30 and 10:00 to pick up your snack bag and return any FFVP reusable bags you may have from last week. 
• Lower school teachers: Grades 2-3, please send 1 student to the lower school main office between 9:30 and 10:00 to pick up your snack bag and return any FFVP reusable bags you may have from the Fall. For 1st grade and under, the snack bag will be delivered to your classroom. 

Playworks

Playworks is currently conducting our annual School Staff Survey. Every year, Playworks asks the staff at each school to complete a survey about the impact they feel Playworks has on the students and the school community. We use the survey feedback to report our impact to funders and to seek additional support. We also use this information to refine our program to best meet schools’ needs. The survey will remain open until May 19th. ELT Teacher Facilitators

As we prepare for our extended school day next year we want to communicate some shifts that aligned with the ELT agreement. Part of the Extended Learning Time model requires teacher facilitated time at weekly common planning meetings. The ELT committee has worked to align the Instructional Leadership and School Climate Teams within this model. Each grade level/content team must have at least one Teacher Facilitator to be a representative on the ILT and one to be a representative on the School Climate Team. Teacher Facilitators will be expected to attend a 2 day summer training and will receive a stipend for their work. Job Description & Link to Application

The Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment (MCIEA) is conducting a survey regarding the use of assessment in all member schools. Please look for this survey in your email this Wednesday, April 26th and respond as quickly as possible. All replies are anonymous and will be used to better understand how to use assessment in ways that inform instruction and provide an authentic understanding of student learning.

Both paras and teachers voted to convert afternoon hours of PD into summer hours. Teachers will report for PD on Wednesday, August 30th and Thursday August 31st for PD from 8am-3pm. Paras will report on Wednesday, August 30th from 8:00am-2:00pm.

Curley Family Arts Night

Families, students and staff please join us for arts and community building as we prepare for Wake Up The Earth (WUTE) on May 3rd from 5pm-7:30pm in room 014. Please bring drinks and snacks to share as well as an open mind as we prepare for the WUTE Parade. The parade will take place on Saturday, May 6th and the theme is “Water is Life.” We would like to have a large showing of Curley families to march and share artwork. Capstone Project - Thinking about assessments beyond standardized test

The Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment (MCIEA) is a partnership of MA public school districts working to create a new state-wide school accountability model. A cross-grade team from the Curley is currently participating in the MCIEA sponsored, “Quality Performance Assessment” project, working to create a capstone project that will become a required part of the 4th Grade “Excellence for All” curriculum. It is our hope that this year’s capstone project development process will serve as a model for other grades to embrace in the future, so that all our students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning in ways other than a computer-based test. Please make sure that your sub folders are up to date and have explicit instructions about what duties they have to cover and what procedures they should be following. There have been miscommunications with substitutes where duties have not been covered and students have been unsupervised. This has created safety issues.

Shout Out

Shout out to the K2 teachers, paras, and students. They all worked very hard to answer a difficult question from Mayor Marty Walsh: What could they construct to make Boston fairer and more interesting for kids? Each K2 class went through the design process to envision, research, plan, execute, and revise a model of their idea. Today the classes did a gallery walk of all four projects. The K2 students really care about making sure everyone has things for free!

 

 

Shout out to 6th, 7th, 8th, SAR and SEI teams for supporting the dance in the gym. I would like to thank the following students for their help: Yeissa Grullon for taking the time to ask students in the 7th and 8th grade teams for music for the playlist. Thanks to Cisne Torres and Yulianna Mariano for decorating the gym. Thanks to Daury Maxwell and Rancel Lara for taking turns DJing. Erick Reyes, Sebastian Calva, and Reymon Melo for helping set up the sound equipment and the lights. Thank you to all of the teachers that attended the dance and chaperoned it and for those that stayed behind in their classrooms. Thanks to Ms. Wessen for taking the two groups and for helping with the break down and clean up. Ms. M. Santos for manning the table selling bottled water. A big thanks to Ms. Dancy and Mr. Bertoni for allowing me to use their space.

Many of you know that I am working on a yearbook for our 8th graders, with help from a small group of homeroom representatives. We are looking for PHOTOS! Look for Survey from MCIEA

The Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment (MCIEA) is conducting a survey regarding the use of assessment in all member schools. Please look for this survey in your email this Wednesday, April 26th and respond as quickly as possible. All replies are anonymous and will be used to better understand how to use assessment in ways that inform instruction and provide an authentic understanding of student learning.

City Year

The City Year End of Year survey window is open! A unique link has been sent to all the teachers that have City Year corps members serving in their classroom. BTU Vote

Both paras and teachers voted to convert afternoon hours of PD into summer hours. Teachers will report for PD on Wednesday, August 30th and Thursday August 31st for PD from 8am-3pm. Paras will report on Wednesday, August 30th from 8:00am-2:00pm.

LGBTQ+ Picnic

Curley Family Arts Night

Families, students and staff please join us for arts and community building as we prepare for Wake Up The Earth (WUTE) on May 3rd from 5pm-7:30pm in room 014. Please bring drinks and snacks to share as well as an open mind as we prepare for the WUTE Parade. The parade will take place on Saturday, May 6th and the theme is “Water is Life.” We would like to have a large showing of Curley families to march and share artwork. Capstone Project - Thinking about assessments beyond standardized test

The Massachusetts Consortium for Innovative Education Assessment (MCIEA) is a partnership of MA public school districts working to create a new state-wide school accountability model. A cross-grade team from the Curley is currently participating in the MCIEA sponsored, “Quality Performance Assessment” project, working to create a capstone project that will become a required part of the 4th Grade “Excellence for All” curriculum. It is our hope that this year’s capstone project development process will serve as a model for other grades to embrace in the future, so that all our students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning in ways other than a computer-based test. Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month! Please help promote awareness by "lighting it up blue" every Friday in April by wearing your blue Curley shirt or your Autism Awareness Curley shirt. Thank you!

Substitute Teacher Folders

Please make sure that your sub folders are up to date and have explicit instructions about what duties they have to cover and what procedures they should be following. There have been miscommunications with substitutes where duties have not been covered and students have been unsupervised. This has created safety issues.
