Shout Out
Shout out to Craig Melzer, Sharon Ennis, Eileen Cronin, Patty Garcia, Laura Strait and Danielle Moran for representing the Curley at PD earlier this week. The state/city is beginning to think about how to assess students beyond a test score and this team is participating with schools across the state to share their ideas. We hope to have a capstone project that will happen across the school that celebrates student learning and demonstrates the many successes we know our students have throughout the school year.
Shout out to Helenia Solomini for her patience and perseverance in implementing a behavior plan. We appreciate your willingness to try new things, collaborate and do whatever it takes to help a child be successful. Keep up the good work!
ACCESS testing begins tomorrow:
Paper Testers Grade K-3:- Your materials are ready for testing in the lower school main office. You will need to give yourself enough time to sign out materials. Waverly will be there by 8:00.
- You will be administering Listening and Reading tomorrow and Writing on Thursday.
- Please make sure that you have all the tests for all of your students and a way to play the listening CD.
- First all lap tops need to be rebooted in order to make sure that the DRC insight APP is loaded on the chrome books. See image below:
- You need to make sure to pick up your tickets for testing from Waverly Kidd. Each student has a different password for each session. Their username is the same but the password changes for Reading, Listening and Writing.
- Each students has their own computer.
- Verify the ticket contains the correct Student Name and Date of Birth.
- Students should login to the assessment using the Username and Password on their test tickets. Once this information is correctly entered, the test becomes active. Test tickets need to be collected at the end of each session and returned to Waverly.

Middle School Special Education Progress Reports

K2, First and Second Grade Teachers
The BAS and Dibels windows are open from January 23 to March 3. Teachers should find an independent, instructional and hard level for students not meeting the current benchmark according to your most recent running records. The current benchmarks are: K2 - C, 1st - H, 2nd - L.
P&D and Class Coverage Payments
Madeline and Kathy are collecting staff missed P&D and Class Coverage hours, it is due no later then Jan. 27th. Also BPS does not pay for missed lunch times.
January, 2017 Curley Cares Student Awards
What better way to rejoice in 2017 than by recognizing those students who do their best to show growth and support the Curley Cares way? Celebrate the New Year AND positive student behaviors by using THIS FORM to submit names so students can receive an award at our upcoming Thursday, January 19, 201 7 Curley Cares assemblies.Please refer to THIS LIST to see those students who have already received awards this school year .
The intent behind Curley Cares is reinforce positive (caring) behaviors and that each Curley K8 student receive at least one Curley Shares award each year.
All Curley K8 staff members - not just for homeroom teachers - can submit student names for an award.
If you'd like to give more than 3 awards, please coordinate with your grade-level colleagues such as specialists or other staff. If it is for a larger group of students (such as a sports team, etc.) please email Kate (kdavis3@bostonpublicschools.org) directly.
Submissions are DUE by 4:00pm on Tuesday, January 1 7 , 2016.
ACCESS
We will begin ACCESS testing for ELLs this week. Please make sure to look at the attached schedule and list of students even if you are not a homeroom teacher as many people are testing students. If there are any students missing or a conflict in your schedule please let Waverly (wkidd@bostonpublicschools.org) know by the end of the day tomorrow Monday January 9th.

Hello Curley Staff,The SPC wants to Thank You in advance for giving out flyers to your students for the upcoming Museum of Science night (They will be sent home on Monday). This fun community night is Friday 1/20 and is open from 5-9. The event is FREE to families with an EBT card and general admission is at a very reduced cost of $5/person! Parking is $5 as well. Please let Jess Curran (jessicacurran@ymail.com) know if any students want to go but need financial support. This is a community event and we want to encourage all families to attend! There is a new teen area, with 3D printers and other advanced activities so please spread the word! Great for all ages!
We need a head count by Wednesday night 1/18/17. If you could put your forms/money in the lower school or upper-school office I'd be happy to pick them up Wednesday afternoon. If possible, can you email me (jessicacurran@ymail.com) that you put them in the office to help us keep track of things. Save the Date: Books, Cocoa and Cookies
Next Thursday, January 12th (7:30-8:00am), come share a hot drink and pick out a recently released book to add to your classroom library. Books have been donated by the Boston Teachers Union and the National Science Teacher's Association, so there's lots of nonfiction selections. This event is being hosted by Genet Mehari and Eileen Cronin and will be held next to Room 107 in the Upper School. Come early for the best selection!Winter Reading Benchmark Window (Grades 3-8 Only)
The winter reading benchmark period for ALL students is open from Wednesday, January 4th through Friday, January 13th. Winter benchmark activity can be scheduled during WIN block or other convenient time. To begin the assessment, students log into “STAR Reading” and begin testing. You can access the assessment at:
The site has been added as a favorite to the bookmarks on all Chromebooks. Testing should take 15-20 minutes. You should reserve computer carts in advance to assure that all testing is completed no later than January 13th. The data we are collecting provides valuable insight into students’ reading abilities. Please remind students of the importance of this testing and be sure that students are provided a quiet, distraction-free environment so that they can do their best.

Staff It is that time of year again to prepare for ACCESS: For people who were certified in grades K-3 last year for the paper-based test, kindergarten, and/or alternate ACCESS, only need to re-certify for the Speaking since we are administering the paper-based test again. All teachers in Grades 4-8 need to take the online training module.

You will need to create an account on www.wida.us using username Massachusetts, password patriot. Create an account and follow the steps below.

We will be creating a bulletin board to showcase how Curley students are able to “express a clear and organized idea”. Cross-content examples of student work are particularly welcomed! We sincerely appreciate all your hard work and we understand sometimes deadlines are difficult however reports must, by law, be available to parents and other TEAM members by that two day deadline. Thank you in advance. This is necessary to adhere to state guidelines and for coordinators to ensure that the necessary paperwork is complete and services are in place before the meetings. This also helps us prepare for OR/RE/URs.

1. An individual must be a permanent BTU Teacher, have a minimum of ten (10) years of continuous service in the Boston Public Schools, and must meet the minimum age requirement of fifty-five (55) years.
2. Eligible employees presently on paid or unpaid leave of absence can apply.
3. The application, once accepted by the Office of Human Capital by execution of the Separation Agreement, is binding on both parties and irrevocable.
4. Applicants understand that the termination must be effective between June 30, 2017 and August 31, 2017.
