Shout out to Laura Merdkhanian, Maureen Cullen, Jenny Goldstein, Taylor Bresnahan, Katie Baulier, Kristen Mitchell, Katie Donnelly, Caridad Lopez, Helenia Solomini, Laura Shea, Traka Smith, Chrissy Perera and Hadley Keohane for hosting families on Wednesday evening for our Kindergarten Meet & Greet. This team worked till 6pm to help students and their families transition to school. Our families felt comforted to see the learning environment and get to know the teachers. Our youngest students we excited to play and meet many new friends. Thank you for putting in the extra time to make the transition to school go smoothly! Also all these teachers as well as our paras Noris Rosado, Cinthia Aguasvivas, Lourdes Vasquez and Clelia Camacho participated in First Aid and CPR training in order to help with our reaccreditation for NAEYC. Thank you for caring about our students safety!Shout out to all Staff for their hard work making Day 1 a success! Our students were happy to reconnect with friends and our families were thrilled to be welcomed by staff. The day was positive and we look forward to 179 more days like that! It was great to see so many team building activities happening across the building! Thank you for your hard work! Also we all survived our first day of ELT!!!! Way to go!
Introducing Heela Roshan
My name is Heela Roshan and I am so excited to be at the Curley for my principal internship! I am currently in the School Leadership Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Prior to this year, I taught third grade at the Sarah Greenwood School in Dorchester, where I was also a Literacy Collaborative coach for the intermediate grades. I started my teaching career in Maryland where most of my family still lives. Thank you for giving me such a warm welcome into the Curley community!
21st Century Funding
In order to collectively determine our furniture and technology needs as a school, Heela Roshan will be coming in to take pictures of classrooms next week. The purpose of this is just to get an idea of what we have so that we can work as a school to determine priority areas for the BuildBPS funds we received. Doors should never be propped open in our building. This is a safety concern and if you see a door open please close it immediately and notify the office. Staff should use their ID badges to enter the building.
Front Door
Many students, staff and families were admiring our beautiful front doors on Centre St. today! Please make sure to help us keep them looking great and do NOT tape signs or notes to the door. Thank you!
Announcements & Tardy
We will hold off on morning announcements and marking students tardy for the next few days. We need to work out the kinks with the buses and that may take us about a week.
Student Who Have Not Reported To School
Did you have students who have not reported to school yet? Please reach out to families and find out if they are planning on attending. Students will be DNRd (Did Not Report) if they miss the first 7 days of school. We know that some of our families are stranded due to Hurricane Irma and we do not want them to be dropped from our list. Please email Sugeily Santos (ssantos2@bostonpublicschools.org) if you know of families in this situation so we can support them. If you reach out to a family and they are not sending their child please let Madeline and Kathy know so we can discharge students.
Tenacity
Tenacity is currently seeking to recruit 6th and 7th grade students into our free after-school program (Monday through Thursday from 3:15 until 6pm). Our program combines academic support with a daily tennis and fitness program, along with life skills, field trips, and a unique social community. Please send students are way that you feel would be a great addition to our group! All MS teachers and specialty teachers should pick up their pass(es) in the upper school main office tomorrow from 7:45-8:15. ALL 6th-8th grade students should be using these passes for all out-of-classroom errands (nurse, bathroom, water, etc.).
Explain Blog
The Daily Bulletin posted in our blog is our central means of communication. It is meant to be helpful to staff and will be sent out each evening with information for the following day. If you have information that needs to be communicated to staff please email Katie Grassa with the subject line "Blog." The information sent should be written how you want it published in the Daily Bulletin.What is a Shout Out?

This email contains the link for the staff Epipen Training and a short quiz. All staff should click on this link and first complete the "School Staff Training Module" on the left. After you have completed the training module please click on the "School Staff Quiz" link on the right. Once you have completed the quiz please print out your certificate and bring it to the nurse's office. You can also email the certificate or leave it in the nurse's mailbox in either office. We ask that all staff have this completed within the first two weeks of school. We have many student's here at the Curley with life threatening allergies. It is important that they are safe in school.
There is also a link for the Blood Borne Pathogen Slide Show and another for the Blood Borne Pathogen Test. Please view the slide show. Once you have completed the slide show, print out the test, complete it and return it to the nurse's office with your epipen certificate.
Please take the time to print off Nurse's Passes from the link noted in the handbook. All students who come to the nurse should have a pass with full name, time and the reason for visit to the nurse.
Also, it is very important that the nurses receive a copy of emergency forms as soon as they come in. Often these emergency forms are how we become aware that a student has a certain medical condition that needs attention. All medications and medical forms should be sent to the nurse's office. It is against HIPAA Privacy Policies for medical information to be left in classrooms. Celebrations Policy
On January 1, 2017 we adopted a Celebrations Policy that was created by our Health and Wellness Committee. Copies of this will be placed in mailboxes to go home on Monday for all students. Here it is for your reference. This is a transition for many families so please let an administrator know if birthday items continue to be sent it in, we can support you with this matter.
SIS Training
We will send a representative to each team meeting to explain SIS and walk you through the conduct and journal tabs. Please make sure to add time to the agenda. We expect that this should not take more than 30 minutes. Your point person will coordinate an exact time with you.

Happy new year! This is a reminder to wear your brand new WE CARE ABOUT ALL PEOPLE t-shirt for opening day tomorrow. This will send a welcoming message to our students and families and will help them to identify staff. In keeping with Curley tradition, we will continue to wear our Curley shirts every Friday (old or new shirts). "Lunch/Recess" Duty on the Master Schedule
Make sure that you have checked the Master Schedule Lunch/Recess tab. Teachers have a 40-minute lunch break, then they will go relieve lunch monitors for the times in the chart (shown below). It may just be 5 minutes of transitioning your students or it may be monitoring recess (6-8 grade).
Notes for 6th-8th grade teachers
- Please check the Master Schedule document tonight. There have been some small changes to lunch and recess schedules for Thursdays and Fridays.
- Be aware that 6th-8th grade recess will always be held in the gym, rain or shine.
Elective Showcase Rotation
Middle school elective showcase rotation will be held on September 7th & 8th from 8:30 a.m. until 9:50 a.m.Backpacks
We had 110 backpacks donated to us. If your students are in need of a backpack, please email Cristina (K-3rd) at csilva4@bostonpublicschools.org or Sugeily Santos at ssantos2@bostonpublicschools.org (4th-8th).
