New Field Trip Request Procedure

Starting today, all field trips requests should be submitted in the following way. If you have already submitted a paper previously, that is ok, but all new requests should be done in this way. Check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

1. Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily.

2. Print your form submission.
3. Email list of students attending to nurses.
4. Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page.
5. Turn in to either main office.
6. Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)

DI Middle School Competition

Curley middle schoolers in the Destination Imagination (DI) WIN block have been working hard on crafting solutions to scientific, engineering, and fine arts challenges. Visitors are welcome to watch their 8-minute Central Challenge performances. If you are interested in seeing their final solution performance, please join us at Wilson Middle School in Natick on Saturday, March 17!
Parking is limited. DI recommends arriving at least 45 minutes prior to a performance to ensure you will not miss it.

The Jungle Book

Please join us for one of our Jungle Book Performances. Students will get a chance to see their friends and classmates perform The Jungle Book on March 13 and 14. Instructional Focus Review (IFR)

Thank you to all the Curley staff for opening your classrooms and practice to our visitors today. Your professionalism, hard work and reflective nature make this school strong and better for our students. We will review the data trends from the walk through at ILT on Wednesday, March 14th. All staff are welcome to attend but if you cannot attend please know that your ILT rep will share out at the next CPT meeting. We did want to share the areas of strength that were recognized. All of the trends noted are areas we have focused on in the last 5 school years. You should all feel proud of these accomplishments and the work you do each day.

Observed Areas of Strength 

• Evidence of UDL- scaffolds, different types of work, choice / choice in use of graphic organizers, seating, teachers presenting materials in a variety of ways and student choice in process of the work
• Students are comfortable getting into the space they needed to do work
• Student connection to what they were doing and why / Students able to articulate what they were doing
• Teachers presenting material with multiple modalities
• Students willing to take risks in front of peers, answer and ask questions- not stressful / safe learning environments / encouraging students
• Students negotiating meaning and choices in groups
• Using classroom structure for student-to-student and small group work the majority of the time
• More questions asked than directions given- facilitating productive struggle
• Students being asked to do a bulk of the thinking

2018 BPS Climate Survey - Due 4/2/2018

Parent, Teacher, and Student Climate Surveys will be released online on March 12th. Chromebooks and document cameras will be awarded to schools with high parent participation rates and the greatest improvement in parent participation. We are asking teachers to have students complete these in class and for staff to complete them during Climate CPT time (your climate rep will have more info). Also any encouragement you can give to families to have them complete it would be greatly appreciated! We use this data to plan for next school year and really value the feedback!

March, 2018 Curley Cares Student Awards

Please recognize students who are doing their best to support the Curley Cares way by using theMARCH 2018 FORM to submit names for your students to receive an award at our Wednesday, March 21, 2018 Curley Cares assemblies. These awards are intended to reinforce positive student behaviors in support of the Curley Cares rules and the expectation is that every Curley K8 student should receive at least one award each year. With this in mind, please refer to THIS LIST to see those students who have already received award(s) this school year. If you'd like to give more than 3 awards, please coordinate with your grade-level colleagues such as specialists or other staff. If it is for a larger group of students (such as a sports team, etc.) please email Kate (kdavis3@bostonpublicschools.org) directly. Please SUBMIT awards by 7:00pm FRIDAY, March 16, 2018. Thank you!

Sporting Events

There will be no student spectators in the gym during after school sporting events. The gym is very small and cannot accommodate many people. Please be sure to escort students out of the building at the end of the school day. Student spectators may not attend the game with staff or partners. If a student is with his or her parent, he or she may attend however, the student must vacate the premises when the parent leaves.

Middle School Passes

Please be sure to give students official Curley passes when they sign out of the classroom. If you need new passes, please see Ms. Peters in room 216.

Winter Term Report Card Grading Window for Grades K2-8

The elementary grading (Grades K2 - 8) window is open from March 5th to March 25th. Please refer to the materials below for assistance entering your grades. After entering grades, teachers need to click the "Post Grades" button to write the grades to the report card.

Hiring New Staff

SPED Progress Reports

2nd round of Progress Reports are due in Edplan by March 14th. You will enter new information under the last written progress report. Please be careful not to erase information in the text box. You can label your entry "2nd Marking Period 3.2018" or "Progress Report 2 March 2018". Please make sure your name and title appear after the entry. Progress Report Video please review the guidelines below as well. All reports for meetings should be uploaded to Edplan now. LLI Materials Now Available in Upper School

Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) materials are now available in Ms. Arroyo’s room in the upper school. Lessons and books from the Blue kit (Levels C-N) and Red kit (Levels L-Q) may be borrowed to use as part of your intervention instruction for students reading below grade level. These materials are most effective when used in addition to daily guided reading lessons.

Ms. Arroyo uses this space for small group instruction daily, so please keep in mind the following schedule when picking up or returning materials. You can access materials during the following times:

Daily from 8:15 - 9:00

Monday: 8:15 - 9:45, 10:45 - 11:10, 12:45 - 2:10

Tuesday 11:50 - 2:10

Wednesday 11:50 - 2:10

Thursday: 12:45 - 2:10

Friday: 8:15 – 10:45, 1:30 – 3:05

Please be sure to follow the posted guidelines for checking out materials, and be sure to return and re-file materials in their appropriate box within three days of checking items out. Together we can assure that the LLI kits are complete and accessible to all. City Year Grades 3-8

City Year would like to introduce you to an SEL initiative that invites students to recognize each other for showing that “Curley Cares.” All students in grades 3-8 are eligible to participate. The initiative asks students, alongside City Year AmeriCorps members, to act as “detectives” on the lookout to catch students around the school caring. A poster with pull-off tabs attached to its bottom will hang in every participating classroom. When students or a City Year see a classmate “caring,” and with teacher approval, they can rip off a tab, write the name and grade of the student who was caught caring, and place the filled-out tab in the manila envelope located next to the poster. Students should use Curley values (i.e. “I care about myself, my classmates, and my school”) to determine whether or not a student should receive a tab. We are asking teachers to introduce the initiative to participating classrooms, grades 3-8, the week of February 26th so students are prepared to start their search for caring classmates by March 5th. Guidelines both for students and teachers could be found here. City Year will collect and count all tabs by March 22nd. Recognized students will be entered into a raffle for various prizes, like a brand new backpack. We will announce raffle prize winners the week of March 26th.
