Shout Out

Shout out to Melanie Bourgeault and Emanuela Alves for hosting Ernie Boch Jr, his Foundation Music Drives Us and the creators of Boston Calling for a THANK YOU performance today. Ernie and his team continue to fund our music program and support us in acquiring musical instruments for our students. We are grateful to this partnership! Special thank you to the students in Ms. Bryson, Ms. Moran and Ms. Donnelly's classroom.

 

 

 

ACCESS Testing Results 

As you know we are required to meet in Grade level teams to discuss ACCESS test results and ELD levels for students. Results were delivered to the school today and Waverly will need a couple of days to sort through the paper work. We are asking teams to give me 30 minutes of their CPT time either next week (week of 6/4) or the week after (week of 6/11) to discuss students scores, overall academic growth and English language development. I realize this is in addition to what is being asked of you at this time of year but it is necessary prior to student placement. All meetings need to take place prior to Friday June 15th as all ELD levels are due in SIS by this date. Please Contact Waverly @wkidd@bostonpublicschools.org to set up a time to meet.

Staff PD

We have our final staff PD on Thursday, 5/31/18 from 3:45pm-5:45pm for all teachers (only paras who still owe time). We have broken up the staff into 4 smaller worker groups for the remainder of our PD sessions. Please click here to see your group and your plan for the remainder of the sessions. Insight Survey Starts this week! May 15th-June 6th

All teachers will be send the Insight Survey Link today. Everyone has their own individual link so please do not forward it to a colleague. BPS is asking all staff to complete this survey. You may recall doing this in the fall as well. Please know that if we have 100% staff participation we will have solid data to share and use to plan for next year. Teams may take time at CPT to complete. Time has been given for this in CPT this week. Please complete! So far 42% of staff have submitted (it is anonymous who has submitted.)

BTU Vote

Hello Curley Community,
We will be voting to elect our 2018-19 BTU Building Representatives on Friday, June 1st. The following staff members are running: MaryClare Moran, Arleta Faulkner, Connie Redden, and Mary Thomas. We can have up to 5 representatives. If you are interested in becoming a building representative, there will be a write-in option. You can vote in both main offices from 7:15 a.m. through 8:15 a.m. Please let any of the current representatives know if you have any questions.

Curley Cares - Staff Awards

During next week's whole-school PD on Thursday, May 31, 2018 staff members will once again have the opportunity to recognize their colleagues by giving them a Curley Cares award. This is your chance to acknowledge deeds (both big and small) that have made a difference in your work life. So take some time to consider the contributions of the people you work with each day and how their actions support the Curley K-8 "We Care..." philosophy. Choose one person who you would like to recognize and share your appreciation by filling out the Curley Shares Staff Award form. If you have any problems accessing the form, please contact Kate Davis. Submissions are due by 7:00pm Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

Student Profile Information

Student Profiles will be entered in the Journals tab of SIS by Monday, June 18. Every student (K1 - 8) will have a journal, even if they are leaving the Curley School. SPED and ESL teachers should support and provide input for students. Teachers can work amongst themselves to determine who is the most appropriate person to fill out for each student. 

• Please be concise, specific, and use discretion. Families have a right to request this information. 
• How to log onto the Journal tab: Log into SIS > Find student and click on their name > Click on Journals tab at the top > Click on Add button > Type Student Profile SY 2017-18 then a paragraph of the information (see below) > Click Save 
• For each student, log a Journal titled Student Profile SY 2017-18: 
• Academic strengths/supports? (Include interventions i.e. reading recovery)
• SEL/Behavior strengths supports? (Include behavior plans/important rapport-building info)
• Relevant family information
• Ex. mom prefers email, prefers morning meetings
• USE DISCRETION families have a right to request this info

Examples: 

• Student Profile SY 2017-18: Student was performing at grade level in all subjects by end of year. Works best academically with a small group. Student likes one-on-one talks to build relationship. Student received counseling SY 2017-18. Check in with Sugeily Santos for further information. 
• Student Profile SY 2017-18: Student has grade-level reading fluency and math skills. He needs support with reading comprehension and generating ideas in writing. Student likes to follow the rules and has trouble when others do not. This sometimes causes conflict between him and other classmates. See IEP. Mom and dad are easy to reach through email and/or text.

Moderate Disabilities, Severe Disabilities and ESL Pathway Programs are posted on My Learning Plan. The application deadline is May 31, 2018. Email Katie if you would like an application.

GLBTQA+ Club Kick-Off

(Gay, Straight, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning/Queer, Allies and Others)
We need your help. You will find flyers (English/Spanish) in your mailboxes to announce our kick-off. The Club will start next year but we want to gather interest and information in which students would like to attend to help us plan and celebrate them.
Can you please consider

• hanging the signs up on the outside door of your classroom or in a noticeable place for your students and others? 
• taking 3-5 minutes during Open Circle or Homeroom to announce the kick-off breakfast? 
• reminding students about the breakfast on June 11th?

While we are happy to have Staff attend (of course), our main focus for adult support is to get students to turn out for an event where our Curley students feel welcome, included and heard. We would appreciate any help you can provide with turnout and getting the word out.

Staff Tardiness

Just a reminder that teachers need to sign in by 8:15am and paras at 8:20am. You MUST sign in by that time each day.  Please do NOT sign in after completing your duty. We recognize that emergencies and other issues may arise but please text/call Katie to notify her if you will be late.

Middle School Dance

Curley Middle School Dance in the gym on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 1:55 to 3:05 PM. The entrance fee is $5.00 and the proceeds will go towards: the 6th grade trip to the White Mountains and the middle school trip to Canobie Lake.

• Popcorn and other goodies will be sold in the gym as part of the fundraising event. Please spread the word among your middle school students.

Tech Goes Home @ Curley!

The families of students in grades 2-8 will have the opportunity to attend a Tech Goes Home course right here at the Curley. Technology Goes Home (TGH) strives to ensure that all residents of the City of Boston are equipped with the tools, training, and access to support 21st century skill development. After successful completion of the program, graduates will have purchased their very own Google Chromebook computer for $50.
Flyers and interest forms were placed in the boxes of teachers of grades 2-8. Any questions should be directed to Ms. Smith (tsmith8@bostonpublicschools.org). I am willing to reach out to any family you feel may benefit from this program.

Boosterthon

EOY Testing Window

The BAS/Dibels testing window will be open from May 14 to June 8. K2, 1st and 2nd grade teachers will receive one full day of testing coverage. Contact Caitlyn with any questions.

Spring Concerts are on the Way!

Over the past couple of months students have received pink and purple flyers home about our spring performances. Homeroom teachers: if you are missing flyers please talk to Ms. Bourgeault or Ms. Alves. Please make note of our performances coming up soon!

BTU Voting Results 

• We voted to redistribute the 6 hours from 1/2/19
• We voted to hold our Fall Open House on Thursday, September 27th from 5pm-7pm
• We voted for Option 2 (24 hours): Professional Development on August 28th and 29th from 8am to 3pm (14 hours) AND five (5) 2-hour sessions on the following Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:45 pm: 10/4, 11/1, 12/13, 1/31, 3/7 with a make-up day on 4/4 (in case of snow).

Student Surveys Grades 4 - 8 (March 12 - June 15)

Please have all students Grades 4-8 complete this as part of class. All student surveys are online. The survey is available in students’ Digital Backpack as well as through the following student link:

Students can complete the survey using chromebooks, other technology at their school, and even smartphones.

New Field Trip Request Procedure

Starting Monday, 3/12/28, all field trips requests should be submitted in the following way. If you have already submitted a paper previously, that is ok, but all new requests should be done in this way. Check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

1. Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
2. Print your form submission.
3. Email list of students attending to nurses.
4. Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page.
5. Turn in to either main office.
6. Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
