1/22/19 Daily Bulletin

Shout Out

Shout out to all staff for their efforts on Friday organizing t-shirts for students! It was great to see students wearing Curley SWAG. The students love their new shirts and the day was filled with pride from all who participated!

ACCESS


Thank you everyone for your hard work in testing our students. This week we will finish reading, writing and listening for all grades. Next week we will begin speaking. More information to follow. Please look at the schedule changes for this week. Thanks again. 
Thank you to everyone who was successfully testing last week as we worked out some issues. This week grades 1,2,3,4 6-8 will all be testing the Listening, Reading and Writing sections. Please make sure to look at the list of students and make sure everyone is accounted for. If you are missing any ELL's from your homeroom please let Waverly (wkidd@) know as soon as possible.

Grades 1-3: I will have your writing test booklets completed and ready to be picked up after your students have completed the Listening and Reading tests. You can collect your online tickets in Mr. Diaz's office on the day of testing.

Grades 4-8: Your testing tickets will be available day of testing in Mr. Diaz's office. You will need to sign out both the tickets and any headphones you need.

Speaking will not begin in any grade except SEI until next week.

ALL STAFF: please look at the schedule changes for ACCESS as there have been changes to the specialty schedule for this week in grades K1-5.


New Principal Intern

My name is Leah Hassler, and this spring, I will be the principal intern at the Curley. I am a student at Harvard Graduate School of Education where I am pursuing a Masters in School Leadership.
I have spent the last five years in Charlotte, North Carolina where I worked in a K-8 turnaround school. There, I served as a teacher leader both at the school and district level, with a particular focus on data practices, curriculum development, and culturally responsive teaching methods. I have led professional development sessions that modeled best practices for new teachers and believe strongly that teamwork and shared vision is at the heart of a successful school environment. My background is in math and science instruction, and I am passionate about facilitating significant growth for historically low-performing students. I am deeply committed to equitable and student-centered leadership and place that at the forefront of my work. I am incredibly excited to be interning at the Curley. I look forward to meeting and working with you all during the semester!

Bulletin Boards

It is that time again, please make sure to have your bulletin board updated with student work by Friday, February 8th. All bulletin boards should have the Curley template posted with it. This is a great project for a student teacher and/or a set of responsible students. It is important that things are stapled up in all corners. Please note that you can share whole group learning (number talk, sample of writing process, response to reading etc....) The work does have to be perfect we prefer authenticity. Bulletin Boards make our hallways feel warm and welcoming and help us celebrate our students.

2nd Annual Half Way to Last Day Party

We are pleased to announce our 2nd Annual Half Way to Last Day Party! Please join us at Doyle's to celebrate day 90 of school on Friday, February 1st from 4pm-8pm. The cost is $20 per person and includes foods, prizes and the best 90's playlist!
This is a great opportunity to relax and enjoy time with your colleagues!

Interim Data

The Admin Team has been reviewing interim data at a whole school level and we wanted to share some visuals with the staff for review. There are lots of highlights to share as well as some clear areas to improve. Please share thoughts and questions with Lindsey Morgan.

Class Coverage Payment

Madeline and Kathy are now collecting missed P&D and class coverage hours. They are due by Friday Jan.25th and this will cover time from September 2018-January 2019. Please note that missed lunches are not a part of this payment.


MOY BAS Info for grades K2, 1st, and 2nd

If you have running records that show a student is reading on or above your grade's instructional level benchmark, you do not need to do the BAS with them. If a student is reading below the instructional level benchmark, you need to do the BAS to find the highest instructional level and their hard level. See table below in blog for BAS dates.

CPT Cycle January 3rd - March 1st

Thank you to the teachers who provided feedback from the first 70 days of school regarding CPT time. We have heard that you are supportive of the structure but need more time to implement the CPT Cycles within the Curley Work Plan. We would like to propose that from 1/3/19-3/1/19 that teams will complete a CPT Cycle based on Interim 2 data (ELA for everyone but middle school math and science) as well as hold one climate meeting. Everyone will begin with CPT 1 in 2019. This will give teams between 6-8 CPT meetings (depending on days off) as well as one 2 hour PD on 1/24/19 to complete these items. Below are sample agendas for each CPT meeting. Team have the autonomy to map out these weeks so they can complete the full cycle by 3/1/19. See ILT representatives for more details.
  • CPT #1 - Looking at Data/Focus students - Review most recent forms of data (ELA Interim 2, Lexia etc…) in order to understand where your students are in connection to the grade level learning standards. Choose a focus standard/area for the upcoming unit plan.
  • CPT #2 - Unit Plan Overview - Preview the upcoming unit, specifically focus on where within this unit the focus standard/area you choose during CPT 1 and where it can be explicitly taught.
  • CPT #3 - Plan Lesson - Collaboratively plan one lesson as a team that relates to the focus standard/area chosen during CPT 1.
  • CPT #4 - LASW - All team members bring focus student work for the collaboratively planned lesson (CPT 3) and complete the protocol.
  • CPT #5 - Reflection - Take time to reflect on this CPT cycle. 
  • Climate Meeting - TBD

NAEP Testing

The Curley K-8 School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on 2/25/18 (4th grade) and 2/26/18 (8th grade). NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics. The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public.
Students in 4th and 8th grade will/may take an assessment in mathematics or reading. In addition to subject-area questions, NAEP survey questionnaires are voluntarily completed by students. The questionnaires provide valuable information about participating students’ educational experiences and opportunities to learn both in and out of the classroom. More information about NAEP survey questionnaires is available at https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/parents under the section “What Questions Are on the Test?”
The assessment takes about 120 minutes for most students, including transition time and directions. Please contact Mr. Diaz if you have any questions or concerns.

Field Trip Request Procedure

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.
  • Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
  • Print your form submission. 
  • Email list of students attending to nurses. 
  • Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
  • Turn in to either main office. 
  • Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
  • The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.
