Shout out to Laura Strait, Andria Butler and Eileen Cronin for organizing the Curl Up and Read Challenge for grades 3-5. Students came off the bus this morning asking to take an AR quiz because they had done a lot of reading last night! Thank you for inspiring them to do so!
Shout out to 6th grade Azariah Mamousette for his State Championship Swimming accomplishments from this past weekend. He swam 15 races (9 individual races & 6 relays) and all of his swims were personal best swims! Azariah transitioned with a new age category once he turned 11 and is currently competing against swimmers that are much older and much bigger! With all of that being said, his training and hard work in the pool day-in and day-out earned him all of awards shown in the picture attached.

CPT Cycle March 3rd-May 3rd
Thank you to the teachers who provided feedback from the first 109 days of school regarding CPT time. We have heard that you are supportive of the structure but need more time to implement the CPT Cycles within the Curley Work Plan. We would like to propose that from 3/4/19-5/3/19 that teams will complete a CPT Cycle based on Interim 3 data (ELA for everyone but middle school math and science) as well as hold one climate meeting. Everyone will begin with CPT 1 starting the week of March 3, 2019. This will give teams between 6-8 CPT meetings (depending on days off) ato complete these items (The additional PDs can be for planning MCAS reviews in Math and ELA). Below are sample agendas for each CPT meeting. Team have the autonomy to map out these weeks so they can complete the full cycle by 5/3/19. See ILT representatives for more details.
- CPT #1 - Looking at Data/Focus students - Review most recent forms of data (ELA Interim 2, Lexia etc…) in order to understand where your students are in connection to the grade level learning standards. Choose a focus standard/area for the upcoming unit plan.
- CPT #2 - Unit Plan Overview - Preview the upcoming unit, specifically focus on where within this unit the focus standard/area you choose during CPT 1 and where it can be explicitly taught.
- CPT #3 - Plan Lesson - Collaboratively plan one lesson as a team that relates to the focus standard/area chosen during CPT 1. This lesson should be based on the data from your assessment and be a highly assessed standard.
- CPT #4 - LASW - All team members bring focus student work for the collaboratively planned lesson (CPT 3) and complete the protocol.
- CPT #5 - Reflection - Take time to reflect on this CPT cycle.

Curl Up and Read, Curley! - Update
Today marks the launch of the Grade 3-5 independent reading challenge, Curl Up and Read, Curley! Parent letters have been distributed to all classes and should be sent home as soon as possible. The parent packet also includes information regarding each student’s independent reading range. An automated call will be made to homes reminding families to check backpacks for this information. Results of the challenge will be posted weekly on a scoreboard in the Upper School main hallway. The grade that comes closest to reaching their Accelerated Reader goal will win a party of their choice, hosted by Ms. Grassa, and the rights to display the “Curl Up and Read, Curley” championship trophy! This week’s resource is Youcubed.org. Site director Jo Boaler’s goal is to: “to inspire, educate and empower teachers of mathematics, transforming the latest research on math into accessible and practical forms.”
Information at the site - which counts over 30,000,000 visitors so far - is organized into Ideas & Impact, Tasks & More, Films, Courses, Evidence, Books, and News. For some quick ideas for do-nows or homework, check out the Tasks & More section. The Week of Inspirational Math, also in Tasks, has some excellent lesson and activities ideas as well. The Last item in Task & Games is Apps & Games, where you can find some fun and challenging activities for the Chromebooks.
For anyone looking for excellent, but relatively low-cost, professional development around math, the Online Teacher Course is amazing and only $99. Also, for those who asked about differentiation in math, one of the newest resources is a paper by Jo Boaler about Tanya LaMar about special education. There is a related free Webinar - Viewing Difficulties in Mathematics Through a Cognitive Lens - on Wednesday, 3/27, from 3:00-3:45.
Lastly, since several of you asked about differentiation and extension, I’ve also attached a link to the way I set up problems like the ones in the Task section of youcubed in three different ways to provide support and extension.

Curley SPC Winter Social: March 14th
Join the Curley community on Thursday, March 14 from 6-9pm for our first Winter Social at Bella Luna (284 Amory Street, JP). Mark your calendars now! Upper School Library Coverage
We will do our best to keep the Library open while Mrs. Samuel returns from her leave. Mrs. D is currently covering Mrs. Samuel and she is eager to continue assisting staff and students when they visit the library. Due to our high needs for coverage, we will occasionally pull out Mrs. D to cover a class or meeting. In the event that Mrs. D is pull out from the library, Mrs. Powers will send an email (similar to what we due with indoor recess) to let you know when the library is available. Please let Ms. Grassa or Diaz know if you have any questions or concerns.

MCAS Calendar grades 3-8
We have updated the Testing Schedule for the 2018-2019 Spring ELA, Math, and Science MCAS MCAS Calendar. Please revise the new dates and session times with your grade and content teams.You also need to update your password to access the Pearson Access Next website. You should have received an email from Pearson requesting that you activate your username and password. Mr. Diaz, Jessica Burke, and Renee Ward are working on the list of small groups, proctors, and testing locations.
In addition, please review the slides about Monitoring Test Sessions and as well as the your Test Administrator Manual
Mr. Diaz will attending grade 3-8 CPT meetings through the month of March to review dates, schedules, access, and protocols. Please let Mr. Diaz know if you have any questions.
African American History Assembly
The African American History assembly is scheduled for Thursday, March 14th at 9am. We especially would love to have classroom teachers participate with essays, historical figure reenactments or other kinds of celebratory contributions. If you are interested please contact Kim Taylor Knight at storyinabox@gmail.com. We are making this a "no meeting" committee to participate you only need to let us know.

• 2nd round of Progress Reports are due in Edplan by 9 am March 20th for all grade levels. Please enter under Progress Report 1. Please make sure your name and title appear after the entry.

• When entering progress reports please make sure you a entering in your domain/goal area. There are no headings and you will see all goals for all providers when you log in. Please be careful not to erase information in the text box. You can label your entry "2nd Marking Period 3.2019" or "Progress Report 2 March 2019". Please make sure your name and title appear after the entry.
• Do not click Finalize. Click Save and Move On. Renee and I will do the finalization. If you finalize before all providers have entered they will be locked out.
• It is important to be mindful of recent IEP meetings and pending parent response to a proposed IEP. If a new IEP is signed and entered during this period it will erase previously entered progress reports.
• Please make sure you are writing progress on all benchmarks including level of support needed to accomplish that goal.

- Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
- Print your form submission.
- Email list of students attending to nurses.
- Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page.
- Turn in to either main office.
- Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
- The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.
