Shout Out

Shout out to Kim Taylor Knight, she has been selected as a fellow for the Lincoln Center Education’s 2019 Summer Forum in New York, offered to Massachusetts teachers in partnership with the Manton Foundation. She will spend 8 days at the renowned Lincoln Center's Aesthetic Education program, learning and crafting new ways of student engagement in the arts. Congrats Kim!

Shout out to Ms. Untermyer. Students from Ms Quarterson's class have enjoyed dancing in pairs and holding hands and dancing as a group this year in Ms. U's class. It has been beautiful and moving to see the students smiling and relaxed as they truly enjoy one another's company in dance class this year. Thank you, Ms. Untermyer.

Week Math Resource

As the school year winds up, many students will benefit from summer practice to help maintain and strengthen skills. Sheppard Software is a very good location for free, educational games. This Web site has been around a long time. Among my students’ favorites over the years, Monkey Drive and Math Man are always crowd pleasers. Most games are available for a wide range of math topics and skills levels from basic addition to fractions and decimals. Show students how to find this Web site and introduce them to the range of skills-focused games they could play over the summer in math and other subjects as well. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/math.htm

Curley Arrival Changes 6/3/19

Starting June 1st we will be changing our arrival procedures and families will no longer be allowed to walk their child to class. This is a pilot to help us prepare for the start of next year. To ensure that our implementation of this new policy goes smoothly, we will be doing the following:

• Communicating with families about the upcoming changes. This flyer will go home to families to explain the policy change. Please be proactive in reaching out to families you anticipate will struggle with this new policy.
• Families will be able to give feedback using this form when implementation begins in June.
• We will also be sending out robocalls over the next month to prepare families.
• For staff members who encounter families at the door, please use this language to frame and describe our new arrival policy.
• Finally, please review this arrival document to see revised morning duty posts. It is especially important that those staff members who are posted at doors are able to communicate our new policy to families.

Climate Team

Seeking Capstone Panel Members

Grade 5 will conduct an in-school panel review of their capstone projects next Wednesday, June 5th from 9:00-2:30. We are seeking faculty who may have some availability during these hours to serve on a panel. Please contact Danielle Moran or Alicia Green for more details. Thank you!

Movies in School & Outdoor Play

June has arrived but there is a lot of learning time that remains. Movies and additional outdoor play should not replace classroom instruction. There are two ways movies/additional outdoor play can be used effectively during instructional time:
1) it is a video on the content and learning standards being studied for that grade level
2) over the course of multiple days students earned this opportunity

OUTDOOR PLAY during the hours of 10:00am-1pm is not allowed due to recess and 9:20-9:50 the play structures are used by the ABA team. This means PE and other activities cannot be on the field and play structures during this time. It is unsafe to have too many kids outside at the same time.

Use this form to recognize up to three of the students you work with who exhibit consistent or improved understanding of the Curley Cares rules as demonstrated by a specific deed, general conduct, overall academic perseverance and/or improvement, or some other form of participation. Please note the shorter (1-week) timeframe for submission - thanks! Please SUBMIT awards by 4:00pm Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Awards will be presented to students during the Friday, June 7, 2019 Curley Shares assemblies.

Special Education Progress Reports

We are upon our third round of Progress Reports. Grades close on June 14th and Progress Reports are due Tuesday, June 11th at 12pm. This will provide a window for our office and the clerk to review, print, copy, and have progress reports ready to be distributed with report cards the week of June 17th. We need enough time to submit translation requests and have them ready as well.

CPT Cycle May 6th - June 19th

As we close out the school year we want to map out the remaining weeks of CPT for teacher teams. Please check the Curley Work Plan Calendar for all your links to meetings and documents.

K2, 1st and 2nd grade teachers

The end of year window for BAS is open from May 20 - June 14. Be sure to find the highest instructional level and a hard level for each child. All data must be uploaded to the BAS Spreadsheet by June 17th. Caitlyn will communicate coverage ASAP.

ANNOUNCING International Week Dates for SY 2019-20!

Based on data from the 2018 International Committee Feedback survey, International Week for the upcoming school year has been scheduled for the week of December 2-6, 2019. The expectation is that all 56 homerooms will participate in this cultural exchange, sharing what they learn with their buddy classes. As you make plans for next year, we encourage you to start thinking about a country to study and how it might connect to your curriculum

Detention

Students in Middle School should be submitted on the Google Form for Detention if they are tardy without a pass, missing from class, or in the hallway without a pass. Adults should ask to see the pass to make sure it has the accurate date and time. Any adults in the building can assign detention if they find students in the hallway without a pass. Please see Ms. Jackson if you have further questions.

Field Trip Request Procedure

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

• Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
• Print your form submission. 
• Email list of students attending to nurses. 
• Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
• Turn in to either main office. 
• Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
• The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.

Sick Day Procedure (teachers and paraprofessionals)

• Call/text Katie Grassa at 857-265-4954 immediately, no matter how late/early Enter the absence in SubCentral (teachers only). Link: https://bostonps.eschoolsolutions.com/logOnInitAction.do
• Enter absence on Boston Employees Self Service
• If it is after 6:30am, also send an email to Katie Grassa, David Diaz and the secretary.
