Shout out to Amika for all her hard work this summer! Amika not only takes the staff photos and hangs them across the building but she also set up the teacher's room after we moved spaces. Thank you for your time, kindness and regular treats you leave for staff!

Math Updates

1. Logging onto the Pearson platforms.  

Teachers and school administrators can access digital material for Investigations 3 and CMP3 by logging onto http://bostonpublicschools.org/backpack with a BPS email address, finding the Pearson icon in the math section, and clicking on it.  Student rosters at this site starting tomorrow and these will be updated daily but schools to have scheduled students for math classes since these rosters are not organized by homeroom. We know some schools are experiencing some technical difficulties gaining access through backpack and we are working hard to get those resolved. Investigations 3 includes Beginning of Year (BOY) assessments for Grades 1 - 5 that are available digitally but we are also posting pdf versions of these BOY assessment to our web page.  CMP3 has beginning-of-unit readiness assessments but not Beginning of Year (BOY) assessments. 

2.  CMP3 PD sessions for Grades 6-8 and Investigations 3  PD sessions for Grades 3, 4, and 5

These sessions are for teachers who were not able to attend our introductory sessions in August. Please encourage your teachers to participate.

Attention K2-5 Teachers

Please Sign Up for Class Game Time (CGT) with Playworks

Coach C. needs teachers in grades K2-5 to select a time for Class Game Time (CGT) with Playworks. Each classroom teacher should choose ONE time slot on either Schedule A or Schedule B on the shared CurleyCGTschedule doc. Class Game Time will meet every other week based on Coach C's final schedule. If you have any questions, please check in with or email Coach C (crystal.rosa@playworks.org).

ILT

Please join us for our first ILT meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 14th from 3pm-4:15pm in Room 216.

Lower School Bathrooms

The first floor lower school bathrooms are for K classrooms only. Many of the PACE students need adult supervision when using the bathroom therefore we are asking students first grade and up to use a different bathroom. 1st -4th grade home rooms who use the lower school lunch room should review with their class the location of the closest bathroom before going to lunch. Lunch moms have already been informed of the changes. Also the second floor male staff bathroom will continue to be a PACE only bathroom. There is a male staff bathroom located directly below it on the first floor. Thank you everyone for being flexible with these changes, our students and their families greatly appreciate it. 

T-Shirt Video

Last year Curley Art teachers in collaboration with our School Climate Team led an art competition to design a new Curley t-shirt for this school year. There were 936 submissions and only one winner! Congrats to Warren Yang in Grade 1 for being chosen and for helping us to create a new school shirt! Watch this video to see the student work submitted by our students and finalists. 

Open House

Our Open House for all families will take place on Thursday, September 22^nd from 5pm-7pm. Please encourage families to attend.

Parking Lot

The parking lots are for Curley Staff ONLY. Please speak to all student teachers to assure they know this policy. Also when you arrive please pull all the way in so those that follow you can see if there are spots available. Just a reminder that no one owns a spot 

Keep it Clean, Curley!

Check out our 7 new garbage cans outside! Most classrooms received Keep it Clean posters this morning. If you did not get one, more are on the way and one will be delivered to your room as soon as they arrive. As you are teaching your classroom routines and the expectation We Care About Our School, please talk to your students about how to Keep it Clean. Using this language, modeling for students and noticing those who are putting their trash in the can or who pick up litter will help bring attention to our new initiative. It takes a Curley village and we thank you for your support!

Note from our Nurses

Hi, Hope you all had a great summer. BPS Health services require that all staff must complete two training modules.
1. Blood Bourne Pathogens (slide show and test)
2. Epipen (training module and staff quiz)
This email contains the link for the staff Epipen Training and a short quiz. All staff should click on this link and first complete the "School Staff Training Module" on the left. After you have completed the training module please click on the "School Staff Quiz" link on the right. Once you have completed the quiz please print out your certificate and bring it to the nurse's office. You will be "signed off" once you have the certificate and participate in a brief Epipen demonstration in our office. We ask that all staff have this completed within the first two weeks of school. We have many student's here at the Curley with life threatening allergies. It is important that they are safe in school.

There is also a link for the Blood Borne Pathogen Slide Show and another for the Blood Borne Pathogen Test. Please view the slide show. Once you have completed the slide show, print out the test, complete it and return it to the nurse's office with your epipen certificate.

Also, it is very important that the nurses receive a copy of emergency forms as soon as they come in. Often these emergency forms are how we become aware that a student has a certain medical condition that needs attention. All medications and medical forms should be sent to the nurse's office. It is against HIPAA Privacy Policies for medical information to be left in classrooms. Please feel free to stop by the nurse's office across from the lower school gym if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks,  April & Marilynn

Red Jacket Weekend & Family Field Day

City Year will kick off their program year by hosting a day of service at the Curley K-8 School on Saturday, September 17th. If you are interested in signing up for service work please click here to register for the day of service. When prompted, please write "Curley parent"/"Curley staff"/etc in the "other" space in the City Year Affiliation section so that we can track how many sign ups we have from the school. We just ask that students are accompanied by a parent/guardian or are chaperoned by a Curley staff member.  Join us for a family field day with City Year Boston on Saturday, September 17th from 1-4 PM! Activities will include face painting, games, a food demonstration by Fresh Truck, and more. All ages are welcome to attend, but children under 18 should be accompanied by an adult. Click here to register for the Field Day event.

Summer Reading Challenge

We sent a reminder to students about bringing the appropriate Summer Reading Challenge materials on day one. Please be sure to let Caitlyn Gable and Eileen Cronin know who in your class completed the challenge so we can recognize his or her efforts.

CASP

Torri Canada, the Director of the Curley Before and After School Program (CASP) would like to share the following information with you. CASP Before and After School begins the first day of school, Thursday, September 8th. Before school begin at 7:00am. A CASP before school application must be on file on the first day of school for a child to attend. Students attending CASP after school on the first day must have an application on file by noon.
