Winter Benchmark Window (Grades 3-8 Only)

The winter reading and math benchmark period for all students is open from Wednesday, January 3rd through Friday, January 25th. See the testing schedule below. Testing should be scheduled during WIN block or other convenient time. All students, regardless of performance level, must take the Winter Benchmark tests. You can access the assessments at:
https://hosted200.renlearn.com/8570/default.aspx
Be sure students log into the appropriate STAR subject assessment prior to beginning testing. The site has been bookmarked on all Chromebooks. Testing should take 15-20 minutes.
The data we are collecting provides valuable insight into students’ reading and math abilities. Please remind students of the importance of this testing and be sure that students are provided a quiet, distraction-free environment so that they can do their best.
In addition to the STAR benchmarks, students must also complete a written assessment of their comprehension for reading and math. The open response prompts can be found in each team’s CPT folder on the Curley Google drive, labeled “Interim 2”. (For example, 4th grade open responses are in “SY 2017-2018> CPT> 4th grade> 4th Grade Interim Open Response> Interim 2”)
Please contact Lindsey Morgan or Eileen Cronin if you have any questions.

TFT Training Option #1 - Two-Day Training

I’m sending you this email to provide you with the TFT Facilitator Training dates we’ll be offering this semester. As you know, this training is a mandatory component of the facilitator role, and as such, we are aiming to provide as many options as possible to distribute the content, while still considering your various schedules and needs. Because of that, you’ll see two options for spring training below. In both trainings, current teachers share best practices, protocols, and guidance to help you maximize the potential of TFT at your school and grow in your leadership.
In the fall, we discovered that most participants preferred the weekday training opportunities over the weekend options. Keeping this in mind, we’ve scheduled the following training dates:
  • Tuesday, Jan 16 (5-7PM) + Thursday, Jan 18 (8:30AM-3:30PM)
  • Tuesday, Jan 23 (5-7PM) + Wednesday, Jan 24 (8:30AM-3:30PM)
  • Monday, Feb 5 (5-7PM) + Tuesday, Feb 6 (8:30AM-3:30PM)
  • Tuesday, Feb 6 (5-7PM) + Thursday, Feb 8 (8:30AM-3:30PM)
  • Monday, Mar 5 (5-7PM) + Tuesday, Mar 6 (8:30AM-3:30PM)
  • Tuesday, Mar 13 (5-7PM) + Thursday, Mar 15 (8:30AM-3:30PM)
You can sign up for one of these trainings through My Learning Plan. The training events will all be called “ELT - TFT Teacher Facilitator Training.” You’ll earn PDPs for attending this training. Training materials and meals will be provided (dinner for the evening session and lunch for the full day session), and subs are covered by our ELT office for the day you are absent for training.

Curley Coat Drive

It's cold out there and we want to make sure all of our students have warm coats this winter. If you receive a blue form requesting a coat, please bring your student to a coat drive rack to select a coat. Little kid sizes are located in the lower school on the second floor in the stairwell outside of the PACE office. Big kid sizes are across from the main office outside of the auditorium.
If you cannot find the right size coat for a student, email the parent coat drive coordinator Fran Batuyios at fbatuyios@hotmail.com and she will help to locate one.

ESL Classes for Families

In 2018 (hopefully starting in January), we will be offering ESL classes for parents at the Curley School. All levels are welcome and we will focus on learning English for practical purposes (for example, applying for jobs or helping your child with schoolwork) as well as basic grammar. There will be many opportunities to practice speaking. If you are interested, please call the Curley main office and speak to Madeline (617) 635-8176 to give her your information. Please say whether you prefer a morning or evening class.
