Shout Out

Shout to Lindsey Wright and all her hard work that went into bringing author Ty Allen Jackson to our school today. She organized an amazing presentation and experience for every 4th grader and we are all so thankful for our free books! She truly is a valuable asset to our Curley community.

Field Day K-4

Field Day is tomorrow!

• Grades 1-4 are in the playing field.
• K0-K2 are in the lower school courtyard and playground.
• There is only INDOOR RECESS tomorrow.

21st Century Furniture Delivery

Our first furniture delivery is happening this Thursday, June 21st. Please look out for an email from Lindsey Morgan if you are receiving any furniture. To prepare your classroom, follow the steps below:

• Place all items to be removed on the corridor wall (touching the hallway) 
• Place items to stay on window wall 
• Place surplus tag on all items to be removed (see email from Lindsey with tags, extra copies available in office) 
• Place surplus tag on outside of door 

*Items will not be removed unless you follow the steps above! Please reach out to Lindsey with any questions.

Early Release June 27 & 28

Students will be dismissed at 1:10 pm on the last two days of school -- June 27 and 28. Teachers and paras work a full day on Wednesday, and lunch will be served on both days. Please take a moment to review the schedule for those two days, and reach out to David Diaz with questions or concerns.

Photos for Website

Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 19th, Curley Parent, Craig Panzer, will be in the building taking photos of our school and students. This photos will be used for the Curley Website. All parents will be notified if their child's photo is chosen and have an opportunity to approve it being posted.

Boosterthon

The SPC would like to thank all the staff for their hard work and support with Boosterthon. We are looking for your feedback on the program as we decide about ways to raise money for the school next year. Please complete this Google Form to share your feedback by 7pm on Thursday, June 21st. We are meeting on Friday as a team to debrief and discuss. Thanks! Also we heard that some teachers used whole class incentives and spent their own money on it. We are willing to reimburse. Please submit this form to SPC Treasurer, Heidi Brooks at heidibrooks@yahoo.com.

Note from Mr. Paulling

The application is now open for the second cohort of Boston Educators for Equity starting in fall 2018. BEE is a monthly workshop series for a small, diverse group of teachers to get to know each other, investigate our racial and other identities, and talk about how systems of power and oppression play out within our schools and larger community. We use a grounded understanding of our own identities to find ways to work towards racial justice as educators and teacher leaders. End of School Year Reminders

We’re getting into the final days of the school year, and it’s more important than ever to make sure we’re holding students to the same expectations as the beginning of the year. Remember when you have students in the outdoor spaces, they need to be monitored at all times. Be mindful of placement of adults so that you can see all students. (If you’re on the field, you probably can’t see students at the basketball court...) Also, please ensure that you are on time and present for all duties. This is important for student safety. Thank you! We can do this!

Mr. Paulling's Final Shows

Here are the dates and times for the final week. All will be in the theatre arts room. I'm going to rehearse with those students on the stage to see if we can make it work, because both classes are performing together. Performances should last about 40 minutes. Due to the end of Ramadan celebration, Eid, the performance by Ms. Redden and Ms. Garcia's classes has been post-poned until Thursday, June 21st. Summer Reading - 2018

We are finalizing expectations and guidelines for summer 2018 reading program. As last year, all students will be asked to take a pledge to read daily over the summer months and to maintain a log of this reading. In addition, students entering grades 4 through 8 will be expected to read one additional book, in coordination with the BPS and Boston Public Library initiative, “Summer Reading Together”. Packets of information, including the summer a reading pledge, reading bingo activity, and logs are now being finalized and will be distributed to classroom teachers the week of June 11th.
Please contact Eileen Cronin (Gr. 3-8) and Caitlyn Gable (Gr. K-2) if you have questions regarding summer reading expectations.

Spring Term Report Cards K2-Grade 8

The spring grading window for students in grades K2-5 is open from June 4th to June 24th. Please refer to the materials below for instructions on entering grades.
Reminder: After entering or editing grades in the scores tab, teachers must click Post Grades to write the grades to the report cards. Grades will be saved as you enter them but they will not appear on the report cards until you click Post Grades.

Student Profile Information

Student Profiles will be entered in the Journals tab of SIS by Monday, June 18. Every student (K1 - 8) will have a journal, even if they are leaving the Curley School. SPED and ESL teachers should support and provide input for students. Teachers can work amongst themselves to determine who is the most appropriate person to fill out for each student.

• Please be concise, specific, and use discretion. Families have a right to request this information. 
• How to log onto the Journal tab: Log into SIS > Find student and click on their name > Click on Journals tab at the top > Click on Add button > Type Student Profile SY 2017-18 then a paragraph of the information (see below) > Click Save 
• For each student, log a Journal titled Student Profile SY 2017-18: 
• Academic strengths/supports? (Include interventions i.e. reading recovery) 
• SEL/Behavior strengths supports? (Include behavior plans/important rapport-building info) 
• Relevant family information 
• Ex. mom prefers email, prefers morning meetings 
• USE DISCRETION families have a right to request this info 

Examples:

• Student Profile SY 2017-18: Student was performing at grade level in all subjects by end of year. Works best academically with a small group. Student likes one-on-one talks to build relationship. Student received counseling SY 2017-18. Check in with Sugeily Santos for further information. 
• Student Profile SY 2017-18: Student has grade-level reading fluency and math skills. He needs support with reading comprehension and generating ideas in writing. Student likes to follow the rules and has trouble when others do not. This sometimes causes conflict between him and other classmates. See IEP. Mom and dad are easy to reach through email and/or text.

BTU Voting Results

• We voted to redistribute the 6 hours from 1/2/19 
• We voted to hold our Fall Open House on Thursday, September 27th from 5pm-7pm 
• We voted for Option 2 (24 hours): Professional Development on August 28th and 29th from 8am to 3pm (14 hours) AND five (5) 2-hour sessions on the following Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:45 pm: 10/4, 11/1, 12/13, 1/31, 3/7 with a make-up day on 4/4 (in case of snow). 
• Please feel free to contact your BTU representative with any questions! 

New Field Trip Request Procedure

Starting Monday, 3/12/28, all field trips requests should be submitted in the following way. If you have already submitted a paper previously, that is ok, but all new requests should be done in this way. Check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

• Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
• Print your form submission. 
• Email list of students attending to nurses. 
• Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
• Turn in to either main office. 
• Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
