Shout out to Mr. Hill and Ms. Untermyer for hosting hip hop day! The kids loved it!

Shout out to Lindsey Morgan for playing a "magical key trick" to get a student into the Guidance Office in a most needed time. Thank you!

Shout out to nurse Santana for facilitating a parent/teacher conference and supporting a student and his family with changing medical needs.

Shout-Out to Keon Hill for Hip Hop Dance Day! You poured poured positive energy, skill and passion into the classes. Your dancing brought great joy to the students. 

 

Shout out to Ms. Mehari, Ms.Bello, Ms. Chelsea and Mr. Carlos for supporting behaviors and transitions in Hip Hop Dance Day. You all contributed to the magic in the studio.

 

Shout out to Art Club organizers Molly Brigham, Katarina Brink and Riyo Hirota-Tutcik. Special thanks to all the parents who worked on the backdrop for Winnie the Pooh including Jennifer Licht, Eben English, Kristin Shapiro, Katie Fitch, Kieran Fitzgibbon, for all their help with the Winnie the Pooh backdrop at Art Club last night. Thanks the students as well! Please take a look at it in the auditorium. It is a spectacular scenic design that will frame our production proudly. A special shout to the expertise and artistry of Joe Wardwell and Curley art instructor, Peter Pizzi. My extreme appreciation for every parents and child Thursday night that made a wish flag for the set as well.

Math Interim 2 Data (Start on Slide 25)

There is a lot to celebrate on Interim 2 in math! Kudos to the teachers and students for their efforts. Here is some data to share with you all and below is one highlight from each grade! When you click on the slides scroll to slide 25 to see the math data.

• 3rd grade: number of students in green/dark green increased from 17% on Interim 1 to 47% on Interim 2 (growth of 30%)
• 4th grade: number of students in green/dark green increased from 46% on Interim 1 to 62% on Interim 2 (growth of 16%)
• 5th grade: number of students in green/dark green increased from 59% on Interim 1 to 76% on Interim 2 (growth of 27%)
• 6th grade: Number of students who did not attempt open response questions decreased from 18 to 5
• 7th grade: Reduction of students in the red by almost 30%
• 8th grade: 100% of students answered and attempted open response questions

Bulletin Boards

It is that time again, please make sure to have your bulletin board updated with student work by Friday, February 8th. All bulletin boards should have the Curley template posted with it. This is a great project for a student teacher and/or a set of responsible students. It is important that things are stapled up in all corners. Please note that you can share whole group learning (number talk, sample of writing process, response to reading etc....) The work does have to be perfect we prefer authenticity. Bulletin Boards make our hallways feel warm and welcoming and help us celebrate our students.

February, 2019 Curley Cares Student Awards

The Next Curley Cares assemblies will be held Friday, February 15, 2019 so take a moment to recognize students who are doing their best to support the Curley Cares way.
Use the FEBRUARY 2019 FORM to submit names so students you work with can receive an award at our Friday, February 15, 2019 Curley Shares assemblies. If you'd like, please check out the list of students to review which students have already received awards this school year. Please SUBMIT awards by 4:00pm Monday, February 11, 2019.

Educator of the Year

The Educator of the Year award recognizes the exceptional educators who go above and beyond to impact the lives of Boston Public Schools students. The program celebrates educators who exemplify a commitment to the profession by selecting educators who are worthy of representing the positive contributions of our educators district wide.

2nd Annual Half Way to Last Day Party

We are pleased to announce our 2nd Annual Half Way to Last Day Party! Please join us at Doyle's to celebrate day 90 of school on Friday, March 1st from 4pm-8pm. The cost is $20 per person and includes foods, prizes and the best 90's playlist!

This is a great opportunity to relax and enjoy time with your colleagues!

African American History Assembly

The African American History assembly is scheduled for Thursday, March 14th at 9am. We especially would love to have classroom teachers participate with essays, historical figure reenactments or other kinds of celebratory contributions. If you are interested please contact Kim Taylor Knight at storyinabox@gmail.com. We are making this a "no meeting" committee to participate you only need to let us know.

MOY BAS Info for grades K2, 1st, and 2nd

If you have running records that show a student is reading on or above your grade's instructional level benchmark, you do not need to do the BAS with them. If a student is reading below the instructional level benchmark, you need to do the BAS to find the highest instructional level and their hard level. See table below in blog for BAS dates.

CPT Cycle January 3rd - March 1st

Thank you to the teachers who provided feedback from the first 70 days of school regarding CPT time. We have heard that you are supportive of the structure but need more time to implement the CPT Cycles within the Curley Work Plan. We would like to propose that from 1/3/19-3/1/19 that teams will complete a CPT Cycle based on Interim 2 data (ELA for everyone but middle school math and science) as well as hold one climate meeting. Everyone will begin with CPT 1 in 2019. This will give teams between 6-8 CPT meetings (depending on days off) as well as one 2 hour PD on 1/24/19 to complete these items. Below are sample agendas for each CPT meeting. Team have the autonomy to map out these weeks so they can complete the full cycle by 3/1/19. See ILT representatives for more details.

• CPT #1 - Looking at Data/Focus students - Review most recent forms of data (ELA Interim 2, Lexia etc…) in order to understand where your students are in connection to the grade level learning standards. Choose a focus standard/area for the upcoming unit plan.
• CPT #2 - Unit Plan Overview - Preview the upcoming unit, specifically focus on where within this unit the focus standard/area you choose during CPT 1 and where it can be explicitly taught.
• CPT #3 - Plan Lesson - Collaboratively plan one lesson as a team that relates to the focus standard/area chosen during CPT 1.
• CPT #4 - LASW - All team members bring focus student work for the collaboratively planned lesson (CPT 3) and complete the protocol.
• CPT #5 - Reflection - Take time to reflect on this CPT cycle. 
• Climate Meeting - TBD

NAEP Testing

The Curley K-8 School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on 2/25/18 (4th grade) and 2/26/18 (8th grade). NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics. The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public.
Students in 4th and 8th grade will/may take an assessment in mathematics or reading. In addition to subject-area questions, NAEP survey questionnaires are voluntarily completed by students. The questionnaires provide valuable information about participating students’ educational experiences and opportunities to learn both in and out of the classroom. More information about NAEP survey questionnaires is available at https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/parents under the section “What Questions Are on the Test?”
The assessment takes about 120 minutes for most students, including transition time and directions. Please contact Mr. Diaz if you have any questions or concerns.

Field Trip Request Procedure

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

• Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
• Print your form submission. 
• Email list of students attending to nurses. 
• Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
• Turn in to either main office. 
• Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
• The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.

Sick Day Procedure (teachers and paraprofessionals)

• Call/text Katie Grassa at 857-265-4954 immediately, no matter how late/early Enter the absence in SubCentral (teachers only). Link: https://bostonps.eschoolsolutions.com/logOnInitAction.do
• Enter absence on Boston Employees Self Service
• If it is after 6:30am, also send an email to Katie Grassa, David Diaz and the secretary.
