Shout out to Chris Aversa our custodian for searching through three full trash barrels to help a student find something she had lost. Although the search was unsuccessful, you made her feel cared for. Thank you!

Curley SPC Winter Social: March 14th

Join the Curley community on Thursday, March 14 from 6-9pm for our first Winter Social at Bella Luna (284 Amory Street, JP). Mark your calendars now! This adults-only event includes dinner, cash bar, and a small number of silent auction items and raffles. Tickets are $25 and can be pre-ordered at www.paypal.me/curleyk8. Childcare will be available onsite for a fee. Email spc@curleyk8.com if you have any questions. Rosie's Place

Rosie's place is having a Coffee hour in the CASP room on Friday March 1st. Breakfast time is from 10-11, and advocacy time is from 11-1:00.
Flyers will be placed at both offices and CASP room. We will also send flyers home with students today and tomorrow.
Rosie’s Place provide a wide range of services and support, including:
• Utility Assistance: apply for protections, affordable payment plans, funding to avoid shut-offs
• Housing: eviction prevention funds, security deposit, housing applications
• Referrals: free clothing, furniture, funding assistance
• Funding for MA IDs, birth certificates, uniform assistance
• Resources for food assistance and access
• Transportation
• Monthly groups/workshops

Upper School Library Coverage

We will do our best to keep the Library open while Mrs. Samuel returns from her leave. Mrs. D is currently covering Mrs. Samuel and she is eager to continue assisting staff and students when they visit the library. Due to our high needs for coverage, we will occasionally pull out Mrs. D to cover a class or meeting. In the event that Mrs. D is pull out from the library, Mrs. Powers will send an email (similar to what we due with indoor recess) to let you know when the library is available. Please let Ms. Grassa or Diaz know if you have any questions or concerns.

Grade 3-5 Independent Reading Challenge

Curl Up and Read, Curley!
Beginning Monday, March 5th through Friday May 10th, students in Grades 3-5 will participate in an independent reading challenge. The Grade level that comes closest to reaching their Accelerated Reader Reading Goal will win a party of their choice, hosted by Ms. Grassa, and the rights to display the “Curl Up and Read, Curly” championship trophy! Results of the challenge will be posted weekly on a scoreboard in the Upper School main hallway. Family letters to send home explaining the challenge will be distributed on Monday, along with information regarding the student’s current reading range. More info to follow.

BPS Interim #3 Dates

Special Education Progress Reports

• 2nd round of Progress Reports are due in Edplan by 9 am March 20th for all grade levels. Please enter under Progress Report 1. Please make sure your name and title appear after the entry.
• Progress Report Video please review the guidelines below as well. Progress Report Power Point
• When entering progress reports please make sure you a entering in your domain/goal area. There are no headings and you will see all goals for all providers when you log in. Please be careful not to erase information in the text box. You can label your entry "2nd Marking Period 3.2019" or "Progress Report 2 March 2019". Please make sure your name and title appear after the entry.
• Do not click Finalize. Click Save and Move On. Renee and I will do the finalization. If you finalize before all providers have entered they will be locked out.
• It is important to be mindful of recent IEP meetings and pending parent response to a proposed IEP. If a new IEP is signed and entered during this period it will erase previously entered progress reports.
• Please make sure you are writing progress on all benchmarks including level of support needed to accomplish that goal.

2nd Annual Half Way to Last Day Party

We are pleased to announce our 2nd Annual Half Way to Last Day Party! Please join us at Doyle's to celebrate day 90 of school on Friday, March 1st from 4pm-8pm. The cost is $20 per person and includes foods, prizes and the best 90's playlist!

This is a great opportunity to relax and enjoy time with your colleagues!

You can give cash to Madeline/Kathy or Venmo Laura Merdkhanian @Laura-Merdkhanian. Please pay by Friday, February 15th. If you already paid and cannot attend please let Katie know and we will reimburse you.

MCAS Calendar grades 3-8

We have updated the Testing Schedule for the 2018-2019 Spring ELA, Math, and Science MCAS MCAS Calendar. Please revise the new dates and session times with your grade and content teams.
You also need to update your password to access the Pearson Access Next website. You should have received an email from Pearson requesting that you activate your username and password. Mr. Diaz, Jessica Burke, and Renee Ward are working on the list of small groups, proctors, and testing locations. Please let Mr. Diaz know if you have any questions.

Educator of the Year

The Educator of the Year award recognizes the exceptional educators who go above and beyond to impact the lives of Boston Public Schools students. The program celebrates educators who exemplify a commitment to the profession by selecting educators who are worthy of representing the positive contributions of our educators district wide.

African American History Assembly

The African American History assembly is scheduled for Thursday, March 14th at 9am. We especially would love to have classroom teachers participate with essays, historical figure reenactments or other kinds of celebratory contributions. If you are interested please contact Kim Taylor Knight at storyinabox@gmail.com. We are making this a "no meeting" committee to participate you only need to let us know.

CPT Cycle January 3rd - March 1st

Thank you to the teachers who provided feedback from the first 70 days of school regarding CPT time. We have heard that you are supportive of the structure but need more time to implement the CPT Cycles within the Curley Work Plan. We would like to propose that from 1/3/19-3/1/19 that teams will complete a CPT Cycle based on Interim 2 data (ELA for everyone but middle school math and science) as well as hold one climate meeting. Everyone will begin with CPT 1 in 2019. This will give teams between 6-8 CPT meetings (depending on days off) as well as one 2 hour PD on 1/24/19 to complete these items. Below are sample agendas for each CPT meeting. Team have the autonomy to map out these weeks so they can complete the full cycle by 3/1/19. See ILT representatives for more details.

• CPT #1 - Looking at Data/Focus students - Review most recent forms of data (ELA Interim 2, Lexia etc…) in order to understand where your students are in connection to the grade level learning standards. Choose a focus standard/area for the upcoming unit plan.
• CPT #2 - Unit Plan Overview - Preview the upcoming unit, specifically focus on where within this unit the focus standard/area you choose during CPT 1 and where it can be explicitly taught.
• CPT #3 - Plan Lesson - Collaboratively plan one lesson as a team that relates to the focus standard/area chosen during CPT 1.
• CPT #4 - LASW - All team members bring focus student work for the collaboratively planned lesson (CPT 3) and complete the protocol.
• CPT #5 - Reflection - Take time to reflect on this CPT cycle. 
• Climate Meeting - TBD

Field Trip Request Procedure

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

• Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
• Print your form submission. 
• Email list of students attending to nurses. 
• Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
• Turn in to either main office. 
• Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
• The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.

Sick Day Procedure (teachers and paraprofessionals)

• Call/text Katie Grassa at 857-265-4954 immediately, no matter how late/early Enter the absence in SubCentral (teachers only). Link: https://bostonps.eschoolsolutions.com/logOnInitAction.do
• Enter absence on Boston Employees Self Service
