Sole Train: A Call for Volunteers!

Sole Train is a community-building and mentoring program that "uses running as a vehicle for setting and achieving seemingly impossible goals." In order for our Curley Sole Train program to continue flourishing, we need volunteers! Sole Train practices will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:45 and we'd love to see you there. Walkers and runners are welcome! If you're interested or want more information reach out to Alicia Green, Danielle Moran, or Leah Travers.

K2, 1st and 2nd grade teachers

The beginning-of-year window for BAS is open from September 23rd - October 18th. Be sure to find the highest instructional level and a hard level for each child. All data must be uploaded to the BAS Data Sheet by October 21st. Please sign up for a testing day substitute here. Happy leveling! :)

Reminder: STAR Reading Assessment Window Closing

The STAR Reading assessment window closes this Friday, September 20th. ALL students in Grades 3-8 should complete the assessment by close of school. Please contact Eileen Cronin if you need support completing the assessment.

Open House/Bulletin Boards

We have Open House for all families next week on Thursday, September 26th from 5pm-7pm. All Bulletin Boards must be updated by Wednesday, September 25th.  All bulletin boards should have the Curley template posted with it. This is a great project for a student teacher and/or a set of responsible students. It is important that things are stapled up in all corners. Please note that you can share whole group learning (number talk, sample of writing process, response to reading etc....) The work does have to be perfect we prefer authenticity. Bulletin Boards make our hallways feel warm and welcoming and help us celebrate our students.

CPT this Week

Please review the Work Plan Calendar weekly for CPT topics and information to cover. Additionally we think it is important for teams to feel prepared for Open House this coming week. Think about forms families need to complete such as Emergency Cards, Family Guide Signatures, Mass Curriculum Frameworks covered in grade level/content, Using SIS Gradebook, how and when to contact a teacher, family engagement activities and mode of communication etc... You may also want to do a deeper MCAS data review, work on goals for Teach Point, etc....

Teach Point Goals

Goals must be uploaded by October 1, 2019. Teams may use team time this week to work on these.  Attached are some goal examples. Some teams have been asking for examples to help them create the best SMART Goal for their students. Please let the Leadership Team know if your team needs any further supports. Evaluators are not assigned to specific teacher just yet. We are hoping to finalize our hire for Lindsey's position this week and we will adjust once that happens.

LEXIA Training

A one-hour, on-site, “Advanced Launch” training will be held Tuesday, September 24th. PowerUp training will take place from 7:00-8:00 AM and Core5 training will take place from 3:45-4:45 PM. All training will be held in Room 109 of the upper school. Curley Chromebook Cart Accountability System

Hello Curley Staff! Those teachers who have Chromebook carts in their rooms should have recently had that cart returned. This year we are trying to streamline our management system to more effectively meet the technology needs of our school.

• We have created an accountability system in order to keep better track of our chromebooks and to ensure that they are all in working order. Our goal is that each computer in your cart is always working, and that issues are addressed quickly and efficiently!
• Please cross-check your computers this week using the Chromecart Inventory, checking for Serial Numbers or SNIDs [if there is no serial number on the front, we have used the SNID code on the back of the chromebook for identification]. Also, please check each computer to make sure it is in working order.
• Use the Curley Chromebook Issue Reporting Form to report any issues, and replacement computers will be issued. Please complete a separate form for each computer. Our goal is to have each cart fully operational, with all problems reported and replacement chromebooks installed by Friday, 9/20.
• Many of the carts have already had broken computers replaced, so you may notice that the numbers on the form do not line up with the numbers on your computers. Please create your own numerical accountability system to keep track of your chromebooks. For administrative accountability purposes, we will be using the serial numbers that are on the spreadsheet, or the SNID numbers on the back.
• Once your cart is fully operational, please continue to use the form to get a replacement chromebook as soon as you are aware of the problem.
• Thanks for your support as we try to streamline our management system in order to give all students and teachers access to frustration-free technology!

Social Committee

We are looking to form a social committee. They will be in charge of planning social events. Some examples are: First Friday, Curley Cares Gift Drive, 90-Day Party and Secret Snowflake. If you are interested please contact Joanne Mylett. JMylett@bostonpublicschools.org

Transportation Issues and Concerns

Please log all transportation issues and concerns in this form: Transportation Issues and Concerns. Leadership team will be sharing the results with Transportation and will follow-up with teachers.

Calling All Summer Readers!

Students who have been reading over the summer, either by completing required summer reading books (Grades 4-8), or completing a summer reading log or bingo sheet, will be recognized as a “Curley Reader Leader”. Teachers should collect logs, bingo sheets or required reading assignments when students return from summer vacation. The names only of these students should be emailed to Carolyn Silva-Sanchez (K-2) or Eileen Cronin (Gr. 3-8) by September 27th. Students whose names are submitted will receive a Certificate of Achievement and will have their picture posted on a central bulletin board, along with a brief summary of their favorite summer read. Forms to record favorite summer reads will be distributed the week of September 9th. Contact Carolyn or Eileen with any questions.

Guide to the Boston Public Schools (Formerly Blue Guide Books Handed to Families)

The following is a message going out to families:
In an effort to reduce paper waste and create a more efficient system, BPS has decided to move the guide online. Families and students will view the guide and fill out necessary online at www.bostonpublicschools.org/family guide.

The guide is available in English and nine other languages. It outlines many of the district's policies, programs, and services. A separate booklet contains forms needs to be completed at www.bostonpublicschools.org/contact.

A limited number of paper booklets will be provided to each main office for families of students who are new to BPS or do not have access to the internet. We encourage you to go online and complete the form for each of your students as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

ANNOUNCING International Week Dates for SY 2019-2020!

Based on data from the 2018 International Committee Feedback survey, International Week for the upcoming school year has been scheduled for the week of December 2-6, 2019. The expectation is that all 56 homerooms will participate in this cultural exchange, sharing what they learn with their buddy classes. As you make plans for next year, we encourage you to start thinking about a country to study and how it might connect to your curriculum

Field Trip Request Procedure

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

• Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
• Print your form submission. 
• Email list of students attending to nurses. 
• Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
• Turn in to either main office. 
• Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
• The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.

Sick Day Procedure (teachers and paraprofessionals)
