Shout out

Shout out to Maria Ploessl, City Year Program Manager, for her leadership in organizing the event for Chelsea Clinton. It was a great day and students enjoyed participating in a service learning project. Thanks!

Shout out to Danielle Moran for being able to explain to Dr. Chang that Curley K-8 Instructional Focus. (Especially since we haven't communicated it beyond ILT). Also a shout out to her teammates Candida Mundo and Kim Daly who have been sharing the work of ILT with their teammates!

Curley Event

It was an action packed day with visits from Dr. Chang and Chelsea Clinton. Halloween

The Curley K-8 will not have a Halloween celebration during the school day. As a community we are focused on health and wellness and therefore we ask that all candy remain at home. We are also asking that students leave all costumes, masks and face painting at home as well. Thank you in advance for your support around this matter.

Open Circle Breakfast

Open Circle Breakfast will be held this Friday morning at 7:45 in room 212, second floor, Lower School. We hope you all have begun using your Open Circle curriculum guides and are trying to religiously teach 2 lessons per week. At the meeting, we can help answer questions you have, provide ideas for any time issues you're facing, schedule a time for you to come watch one of us teach a lesson, or we can come and watch you teach one and provide feedback. WE ARE NOT ASSESSORS!!! We are SUPPORT! All new teachers to the building with classrooms should definitely attend. Feel free to bring a dish if you like.

Girls Volleyball

Our Curley Lions Volleyball Team is off to a 3-0 start and all staff are welcome to attend a game! The remainder of our games are as follows:

Progress Reports for Students on IEPs

Dates for Progress Reports this year have been identified. All progress reports will be completed on SEIMS. Please let Joyce or Jessica know if you have any questions.

Middle School (Grades 6th-8th) Dates

• First Term October 19th - November 2nd 
• Second Term January 11th - January 27th 
• Third Term March 28th - April 20th 
• Fourth Term May 16th - June 8th 

Elementary School Dates

• First Term November 9th-December 2nd 
• Second Term February 29th-March 16th 
• Third Term May 16th-June 8th 

All progress reports should address each individual benchmark and include the rate of progress towards mastering the goals.

WIN 

The “soft launch” of the WIN block for students in grades 3-8 over the past two weeks has given grade level teams the opportunity to work out logistics and student assignments. Once ANET testing is completed this week, we move into our next phase of WIN implementation, beginning October 26th, during which specific program instruction is expected to begin, if it hasn’t already.

Rosters of students, by WIN placement, will be distributed this week for grade level teams to review and confirm, so that our WIN data spreadsheet is accurate and reflects current students’ assignments. Please take time during your grade team meetings to quickly review these rosters as well as confirm plans for moving students to their appropriate WIN rooms. 

As standard operating procedure, all students should come to their WIN room with a pencil and an independent reading book, just in case technology is not working, or if substitutes are covering the period. Again, thank you for your continued hard work to assure that all Curley 3-8 students receive “what is needed” to be successful readers!

Movie Night Fundraiser for PACE

PACE will be holding a Family Movie Night Fundraiser on Tuesday, November 10th from 5-7pm (There is no school the next day). This event will help raise money for field trips which provide very important social and community experience for students on the Autism Spectrum. Tickets will be $3 a person and will include the movie ticket, popcorn and water. The movie will be Big Hero Six rated PG and all students must be accompanied by an adult. Staff is welcome to stay and help support PACE either by enjoying the movie, helping to supervisor or run concessions. Staff family members are welcome as well free of charge. ANet

Thanks again for your patience during our first online testing session. This week is our A1 math session. Please check the schedule in the ANet folder which is located on the Google drive. Please email the names of any student that needs to makeup the ELA session to Adrian Ward-Jackson. The ELA data is ready for review. Please submit your ELA reteach plans to your evaluator by Friday October 23rd.
