9/6/18 Daily Bulletin

Shout Out

Shout out to Christina Santos and Liz Spring for going out of their way at arrival to support a family and help them get to the right school. From translation to transportation you covered it all for this student. This family appreciated all you both did for them!

Shout out to Sugeily Santos, Madeline Vazquez, Lesley Peck Oser, Tristan Maiden, Joanne Mylett, Kristin Clark, Sarah Silverstein, Laurie Ciardi, Adrian Ward-Jackson, David Diaz, Lindsey Morgan, Kandi Quarterson, Sharon Bellenis, Katie Pulsifer and Jenni Craman for doing everything under the sun to get students home safe today! There is an endless list of what you all did: drove students home, called families, translated, provided snacks for students, entertained students, sat on hold with transportation, rode on the bus to fill in for a missing monitor and continued to smile throughout it all. THANK YOU!!!!! We could not have done this without you all!

Shout out to Jenni Craman for her assistance with Pershing Road buses during dismissal. She checked off buses as they arrived, stayed with a student to wait for a bus that arrived late, and took attendance on the bus. Thank you for taking the time to help out at the end of a busy first day!

Laminator Out of Order - Dear Curley Colleagues

Unfortunately, the laminator roll got split off. This was a result of a consumer trying to use the "Reverse" button and then trying to pull out a product that's started feeding badly. Once the paper to be laminated has been "grabbed" for more than a TINY fraction of an inch (1/16" tops), it's too late to pull it out without tearing the roll. STOP the laminator and judge: 1. Either your product is so crooked that it will never pass all the way through without catching on the side. If so, cut off the product (SORRY!). OR 2. Your product is crooked BUT you see it is not so crooked that it WILL pass all the way through and exit the back.
Thus, after judging and cutting or not cutting, resume "RUN" on the laminator to clear out the laminator or finish the other products you have to laminate. Recreate your destroyed product and try again. Or contact me or an experienced laminator user (Kate Davis, Leah Travers, Lindsey Wright, Deb Bryson,...)
The Lesson is that use of the laminator demands your undivided attention and one must use the SLOWEST Run speed, use two hands to carefully line up the product you wish to laminate and keep your fingers on the product to ensure a true course.
I will spool it through again Friday and will send out a notice or look for it in Monday's Blog. Thanks, Charles

Duties/Bus Room

Here is the quick link to the duty list. This includes bus rooms.

"Lunch/Recess" Duty on the Master Schedule

Make sure that you have checked the Master Schedule Lunch/Recess tab. Teachers have a 40-minute lunch break, then they will go relieve lunch monitors for the times in the chart (shown below). It may just be 5 minutes of transitioning your students or it may be monitoring recess (6-8 grade).

Spanish

We are still in the process of hiring a Spanish teacher. We will have a sub until the teacher is hired which should be soon. In the meantime, Sharon Pina-Pitts will provide coverage for your Spanish P&D.

Cafeteria Expectations and Routines

Please take 5-10 minutes before bringing your students to lunch to review the following expectations and routines for the cafeteria. Lunch monitors and people serving lunch duty will also be aware of these. Click here for the expectations as well as the routines to practice and share with your students.

Calling all summer readers!

Students who have been reading over the summer, either by completing required summer reading books (Grades 4-8) or completing a summer reading log or bingo sheet will be recognized as a “Reader Leader” during September . Teachers should collect logs, bingo sheets or required reading assignments when students return from summer vacation. The names only of these students should be emailed to Caitlyn Gable (K-2) or Eileen Cronin (Gr. 3-8) by September 21st. Students whose names are submitted will receive a Certificate of Achievement during the first “Curley Cares” assembly and will have their picture posted on a central bulletin board, along with a brief summary of their favorite summer read. Forms to record favorite summer reads will be distributed the week of September 10th. Contact Caitlyn or Eileen with any questions.
