Curriculum Resource (EL, EC, Sci, SAS, etc...)

  • The simplified EL Guides can be found here.
  • Early Childhood Resources: new Early Childhood site, under "Unit 1" there are updated, standards-aligned, shared reading, read aloud and SFL informed writing lessons. Currently only Unit 1 is up there- we'll be rolling it out unit by unit this year.
  • A note from Brooke about the EC units: New teachers to FK2 will use the updated curriculum, while the roll out for teachers already using the curriculum will be slower. We have a team of about 12 experienced FK2 teachers from the district who are meeting in a PLC to try out the revised lessons, share experiences and provide feedback. That being said, the updates are public on the website and anyone can access them. We will have the additional read alouds and writing mentor text available for folks to pick up and sign out at the K conference, but folks can reach out if they don't get them there and want them. If you have K2 teams in your networks who use Focus and need/want support aligning their instruction to the standards, using the new curriculum guides in Focus is an important first step.
  • Science curriculum/Message to teachers - We apologize for the delay with new science materials. Holly Rosa will give us a better sense of when materials will be in teachers’ hands this week.
  • Here are the quick links to our ELA SAS and Math SAS (Investigations) to plan for the year.

Counseling Services for Students

The Guidance Office is charged with providing a range of services to students, families, and faculty that support and promote the successful functioning of our students. One of the ways we do this is by providing students with individual counseling services. We are very fortunate to have amazing clinicians from The Home for Little Wanderers, Children Services of Roxbury (CSR), and Community Service Institute (CSI) to support our students. These Clinicians provide a range of services including, but not limited to: providing solution-focused strategies to help students manage problems that may arise during the school day, providing crisis assessments and developing safety plans, and working with teachers to help them understand how a student’s social/emotional concerns may impact their academic performance and identify classroom strategies that can help the student to be successful.
If during the course of this school year, you have a student in need of counseling services, please inform Ms. Santos (4-8th grade) or Ms. Silva (K-3rd grade). All students seeking or in need of counseling services MUST receive parental consent in order to receive school-based services. You can obtain parent permission by sending home the "Parent Permission Form," then, submitting the form to Ms. Santos or Ms. Silva. You can find copies of this form on this link, in the lower or upper school office, or by visiting the Guidance Office located room 203 US.

Excellence For All Scholars Program

This school year marks the start of Excellence for All (EFA) Scholars Program. The EFA Scholars Program will be a site-based after school prep program at EFA middle schools. The EFA Scholars Program provides opportunities that increase the likelihood of students gaining admission into Boston's Exam Schools. The EFA Scholars Program also equips students and families with knowledge that will prepare them for college and career.
We are in need of two instructors. Please read the information below and review the flyer by clicking on this link for additional information. If you are interested, please contact Angel Calvin at 617-635-6560 or via email at angel_calvin@mail.harvard.edu.
  • ISEE PREP INSTRUCTORS: Teachers/staff will receive training in ISEE Prep instruction by Summit Educational Group. Two training dates will be offered: Wednesday, September 19th and Friday, September 21st. Training will take place at the Bolling building from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on both days. Instructors are required to attend only one of the trainings offered. ISEE Prep instructors will receive a stipend of $40 per hour.
  • PROGRAM DURATION: The EFA ISEE Prep program will run from October 1st - November 1st. The program will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays throughout the entire month of October. Since the exam date for the ISEE for BPS schools is quickly approaching, our program will meet three times a week for two-hour sessions to ensure our students are as prepared as possible for the exam.

Laminator

The laminator roll is back up. (Thanks Leah for the help!) Again, pay close attention to feeding in products straight, ensuring they don't get to spinning on the heating rolls and jamming, and watching that they're feeding out the back gray rolls that exit product out the back of the laminator. Contact me or an experienced laminator user (Kate Davis, Leah Travers, Lindsey Wright, Deb Bryson, Lindsey Morgan...) One must use the SLOWEST Run speed, use two hands to carefully line up the product you wish to laminate and keep your fingers on the product to ensure a true exit course. Thanks, Charles Tewksbury

Here is the quick link to the duty list. This includes bus rooms.
