Shout out to Deb Bryson and Janet McDavitt for being the first amazing educators to finish their whole classroom rosters on the BIMAS! They were done before the break! Joining them this week is Adnelly Rivera, Konstantinos Petmezis, and Deirdre Anderson. The BIMAS competition is back on for the first two grades to finish their whole rosters!

Register Today - "Using Lexia Core 5 and PowerUp Data to Inform Instruction"

Plans are now finalized for on-site training focused on interpreting Lexia Core 5 and PowerUp data and using this data to differentiate instruction for your students. All are welcome, even if you have not participated in the introductory Lexia trainings held during February.
Two sessions are planned - Monday, April 29th from 3:45-4:45 PM and Tuesday, April 30th, from 7:00-8:00 AM. Here is the link to sign up for the session of your choice. Lexia Data Training . Please sign up as soon as possible so we can get a sense for the number of participants for each session. Note, both Core 5 and PowerUp program data will be reviewed at each session.
Also, Lexia trainers will be available both days to work with individual teachers or teacher teams to provide additional support. Please contact Eileen Cronin immediately if you'd like a Lexia trainer to work with you.

SPED Director Interviews

We are looking for staff to participate in our SPED Director Interviews on Thursday, May 2nd from 3:30pm-7:00pm. Please email Katie Grassa if you are interested (even if you told her before break please send a follow up email). We are looking for a diverse committee that represents the variety of Special Education Programming we offer here at school. Weekly Math Resource

This week’s math resource is NRICH Maths. Developed at Cambridge University in England, the goal of the site is to:

• Enrich mathematics curriculum for all learners

• Develop mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Offer challenging, inspiring and engaging activities

• Show rich mathematics in meaningful contexts

• Share expertise

My favorite part of this Web site are the many low floor, high ceiling tasks. They are helpfully organized by age-group, by math topic (number sense, geometry, data, etc.), and (British) process strands. If you click on the Thinking Mathematically section, activities and tasks are specifically organized by which process stands they help develop. For example, if you want your students to work on thinking systematically and using patterns to solve problems, there is a selection of tasks specifically geared towards those skills. School Visit & Observations

I would like to introduce Dr. Claire White and Karen White from EFA. Both Karen and Claire will be visiting classrooms to conduct an instructional inventory of the practices we use here at Curley across K-8. They will be collecting data the week of April 30. Curl Up and Read, Curley - Week 6 Update 

Motivated by tough competition, Grade 4 has been reading up a storm, achieving 57.7% of their independent reading goal, just out distancing Grade 3, who has met 50.7% of goal, rounded out with Grade 5 achieving 49.9% of their reading target. With just three weeks to go, students are gearing up for a big finish to see what grade can take home the “Curl Up and Read, Curley” trophy!

Retention

As we prepare to close out the school year, we must begin thinking about those students who may not meet the requirements to move on to the next grade level. The district acknowledges that a student may have to repeat a grade following review by the principal, teacher, parent and support staff (Special Ed Coordinator, if applicable; Guidance Counselor). For additional information regarding the BPS Promotion Policy please refer to the 2018-2019 Guide to BPS For Students and Families (extra copies can be found in the Guidance Office). Once you review the promotion policy, and determine that a student is a strong candidate for retention, please email Ms. Silva (K1-3) at csilva2@bostonpublicschools.org or Ms. Santos (4-8) at ssantos2@bostonpublicschools.org (grades 4-8). Please note, Ms. Grassa has the final authority to make decisions on retention.

CPT Cycle March 3rd-May 3rd

Thank you to the teachers who provided feedback from the first 109 days of school regarding CPT time. We have heard that you are supportive of the structure but need more time to implement the CPT Cycles within the Curley Work Plan. We would like to propose that from 3/4/19-5/3/19 that teams will complete a CPT Cycle based on Interim 3 data (ELA for everyone but middle school math and science) as well as hold one climate meeting. Everyone will begin with CPT 1 starting the week of March 3, 2019. This will give teams between 6-8 CPT meetings (depending on days off) ato complete these items (The additional PDs can be for planning MCAS reviews in Math and ELA). Below are sample agendas for each CPT meeting. Team have the autonomy to map out these weeks so they can complete the full cycle by 5/3/19. See ILT representatives for more details.

• CPT #1 - Looking at Data/Focus students - Review most recent forms of data (ELA Interim 2, Lexia etc…) in order to understand where your students are in connection to the grade level learning standards. Choose a focus standard/area for the upcoming unit plan.
• CPT #2 - Unit Plan Overview - Preview the upcoming unit, specifically focus on where within this unit the focus standard/area you choose during CPT 1 and where it can be explicitly taught.
• CPT #3 - Plan Lesson - Collaboratively plan one lesson as a team that relates to the focus standard/area chosen during CPT 1. This lesson should be based on the data from your assessment and be a highly assessed standard.
• CPT #4 - LASW - All team members bring focus student work for the collaboratively planned lesson (CPT 3) and complete the protocol.
• CPT #5 - Reflection - Take time to reflect on this CPT cycle.

Detention

Students in Middle School should be submitted on the Google Form for Detention if they are tardy without a pass, missing from class, or in the hallway without a pass. Adults should ask to see the pass to make sure it has the accurate date and time. Any adults in the building can assign detention if they find students in the hallway without a pass. Please see Ms. Jackson if you have further questions.

Field Trip Request Procedure

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

• Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
• Print your form submission. 
• Email list of students attending to nurses. 
• Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
• Turn in to either main office. 
• Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
• The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.

Sick Day Procedure (teachers and paraprofessionals)

• Call/text Katie Grassa at 857-265-4954 immediately, no matter how late/early Enter the absence in SubCentral (teachers only). Link: https://bostonps.eschoolsolutions.com/logOnInitAction.do
• Enter absence on Boston Employees Self Service
• If it is after 6:30am, also send an email to Katie Grassa, David Diaz and the secretary.
