Shout Out

Shout out to Ms. Durant! Thank you for all the support you have given the CASP family. We appreciate everything you have done for us in the small amount of time you've been here. We are extremely lucky you decided to be a part of the Curley community!


Shout out to Ms. Alves, Ms. Brown and Ms. Untermyer for leading an AMAZING and INSPIRING middle school performance. Our dance and chorus students shined on stage as they performed the song, Rise Up by Andra Day. Thank you for empowering our students to sharing their learning in different ways!

International Week BUDDY EXCHANGES TOMORROW, Wednesday, December 11th.

Unless you have arranged another exchange time, plan to meet with your buddy classes tomorrow according to your regular Curley Shares schedule to share what you’ve learned during your International Week studies. Grades 3+8 should plan to exchange between 9:45-10:45am. Take pictures!
Send 3-5 of your favorite photos of International Week activities to Amika via email or Google Drive — amika45@gmail.com — by this Friday! Use maximum resolution (actual size). Please complete the Feedback Form by next Monday, December 16th — it will be in your mailbox by Wednesday afternoon.

 

Artifact Support

We want to make sure that people feel comfortable uploading artifacts for your formative assessment. OHC created a powerpoint with a video for those who would like some additional support. We have also created a one-page cheat sheet that goes over are some highlights, tips and tricks for uploading artifacts. Also please feel free to reach out to your evaluator if you need support.

Artifacts – Due December 20th

Artifacts can be uploaded anytime leading up to this date. Below is what must be uploaded for ALL teachers.

• 1-2 artifacts for your Student Learning Goal - This must include data!
• 1-2 artifacts for your Professional Practice Goal
• 1-2 artifacts for I.A.3 Rigorous Standards Based Unit Design
• 1-2 artifacts for I.B.2 Adjustments to Practice
• 1-2 artifacts for II. D. 2 High Expectations
• 5-10 total artifacts with thorough explanations of each item uploaded and how it connects to the goal or standard

ELA Interim 2

Please find the link for the ELA Interim 2 schedule here ELA Interim 2. The link includes instructions for administering the interim, the schedule, and proctor lists and locations. The access codes are not yet available, but will be included in the document as soon as they are. In addition, an inventory of the chrome carts and their locations is being updated. The assigned chrome cart for your session will be listed right in the document with the proctors' list when the inventory is complete. If you have any questions please reach out to Dawn Durant.

Special Education Progress Reports

Special Education Progress Reports are coming out this week. Please make sure that these reports go home with report cards this week. Spanish copies are to follow.

Staff Breakfast

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for their hard work in 2019! Please join us for a staff breakfast on Thursday, December 19th starting at 7:30am in the auditorium.

Free Eye Glasses

On 1/8/20 and 1/9/20 a program called 20/20 will be at the Curley School offering eye exams for students in grades 4-8. Any students found to need glasses can choose a pair at no cost. We are attaching a consent form which is only for students in grades 4-8 that needs to be filled out if the student is to be examined. Students who do not need to be examined can still pick out a pair of glasses at no cost if they bring in a recent prescription for eye glasses.

Students in grades K0-3rd Grade cannot be examined but can still get a free pair of glasses if they bring in a current prescription. Teachers in grades K0-3rd can send home the flyer from 20/20 but do not send home the consent form as they cannot be examined.

Teachers who know of students who should be wearing glasses but do not have them should make an effort to reach out to the student's parents to take advantage of this. They just need to bring in a current prescription no matter what grade they are in. Please see the nurse's with any questions ksantana@bostonpublicschools.org or apumphret@bostonpublicschools.org.

Chromebook replacements

Do you have a broken chromebook in your cart? Please email Jess Gorham and she'll swap it out.[jgorham@bostonpublicschools.org]. Supplies limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis!

MAP Fluency Testing K2-2

The second round of MAP Fluency testing for grades K2-2 is set to begin Friday, December 13th. The schedule is attached to this link. MAP Fluency Round 2 It is important we have support in setting up the computers prior to testing. Staff listed as support should report to the first classroom testing on the day you are listed. Please let Dawn Durant know if you have any questions.

December, 2019 Curley Cares Student Awards

The last Curley Cares assembly of 2019 will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. Curley Cares awards are intended to reinforce positive student behaviors in support of the Curley Cares rules and the expectation/hope is that every Curley K8 student will earn at least one award each year.
With this in mind PLEASE take a moment to recognize students who are doing their best to support the Curley Cares way. Please use the DECEMBER 2019 FORM to submit names in order for students your work with to receive an award at our Wednesday, December 18, 2019 Curley Shares assemblies. You can check out 1920_CurleyCares_StudentRecipients for a list of students who have already received Curley Cares awards this SY.

ACCESS Testing

Staff, it is that time of year again to prepare for ACCESS: All teachers need to retrain for administering the test. You will need to log into to https://wida.wisc.edu/login, read the information and take a quiz for each section you need to take. You must score at least 80% on the section in order to be certified to administer the test. All students Grade 1-8 will be taking the test on-line. Grades 1-3 will take the writing section on paper.

New Staff or those who did not take the training last year.
• You will need to create an account on https://wida.wisc.edu/login using username Massachusetts, password patriot. Create an account and follow the steps below.

All Staff
• Teachers in Kindergarten: sign into https://wida.wisc.edu/login your account and take the Kindergarten training module and quiz.
• Teachers in Grades 1-8: sign into https://wida.wisc.edu/login and take the online administration test.
• All teachers that have or service students that are ACCESS ALT will need to sign into their account and take the testing listed above as well as the Alternate ACCESS quiz.
• Any non-teaching staff and administrators need to take kindergarten, speaking 1-6, paper and online. Once you have taken and passed the quizzes please bring in the completed certification to Kathy or Madeline by Monday January 6, 2020. If you have any questions feel free to ask Waverly.

HOLIDAY STAFF YOGA

Ava Untermyer (Ms. U) will lead a Staff Yoga class for the Curley Team! Enjoy relaxing, connecting to your body and cultivating gratitude during the holiday season.
- Wednesday, December 18th from 7:30 am - 8:10 am
- Room 001 (Dance Studio)
- Yoga mats provided
- Wear clothes that you feel comfortable moving in (leggings, sweatpants etc.)
- No formal Yoga experience required

Middle School Detention

Middle School Detention is every Tuesday from 3:15 - 4:15. Please use this link to record students assigned to detention. Students will earn detention for the following reasons:

· Refusal to turn in their cellphone

· Being in the hallways without a pass

· Arriving late to class without a pass

Field Trip Request Procedure

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.

• Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
• Print your form submission. 
• Email list of students attending to nurses. 
• Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
• Turn in to either main office. 
• Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
• The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.

Sick Day Procedure (teachers and paraprofessionals)

• Call/text Katie Grassa at 857-265-4954 immediately, no matter how late/early Enter the absence in SubCentral (teachers only). Link: https://bostonps.eschoolsolutions.com/logOnInitAction.do
• Enter absence on Boston Employees Self Service
• If it is after 6:30am, also send an email to Katie Grassa, David Diaz and the secretary.
