Big 6 Refresher - During the month of January all staff will be reviewing The Big 6 Rules at the Curley with their students.  This can happen at specials, homerooms and during small group learning time. We will be completing a BINGO Board. The first team to receive BINGO (5 horizontal, diagonal, vertical) in each grade band (K-2, 3-5 & 6-8) will receive a lunch for the adults in February. The first class in each grade band (K-2, 3-5 & 6-8) to complete the whole board will get a class party sponsored by the admin team. Reach out to your Climate rep if you have any questions.

Winter Reading Benchmark Period Open (Grades 3-8 Only)

The STAR reading winter benchmark period is open from Monday, January 6th, through end-of-day, Friday, January 17th. All students, regardless of performance level, must take the winter benchmark test. Testing should be scheduled during WIN block or other convenient time and should take approximately 20 minutes. Please remind students of the importance of this assessment and be sure to provide a quiet, distraction-free environment for testing. Please contact Eileen Cronin with any questions.

ACCESS

Thank you to everyone that has completed their ACCESS training already. Please remember that we can not administer the tests until all the testers have completed the quizzes.
We will begin access testing on Monday 1/13/2020
Please look at the testing schedule, schedule changes, list of students that are testing and who is testing them. Let Waverly know if there are any issues as soon as possible. Thanks in advance. Also on testing day Pete Mullin will be the point of contact if you have any questions or concerns and Dawn Durant is who you contact regarding technology.

New Principal Intern

My name is Eliza Catalino. I am originally from the Bronx, NY and I have spent the last seven years teaching middle school history (4 years in Houston and 3 years in NYC). For most of my career, I have worked for the KIPP charter network. This summer I moved to Boston to begin my graduate studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in their School Leadership Program. I am so excited to grow, serve and work alongside you this spring as a principal intern.
I look forward to collaborating and contributing to your instructional meetings, professional development, school culture and operations. In addition, I am eager to build relationships with you, your students and families.
During my free time, I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, and catching up on my favorite TV shows. Thank you in advance for the time and collective effort I know we will put into learning from one another this second half of the year.
All the best,
Eliza

Free Eye Glasses

On 1/8/20 and 1/9/20 a program called 20/20 will be at the Curley School offering eye exams for students in grades 4-8. Any students found to need glasses can choose a pair at no cost. We are attaching a consent form which is only for students in grades 4-8 that needs to be filled out if the student is to be examined. Students who do not need to be examined can still pick out a pair of glasses at no cost if they bring in a recent prescription for eye glasses.

Students in grades K0-3rd Grade cannot be examined but can still get a free pair of glasses if they bring in a current prescription. Teachers in grades K0-3rd can send home the flyer from 20/20 but do not send home the consent form as they cannot be examined.

Teachers who know of students who should be wearing glasses but do not have them should make an effort to reach out to the student's parents to take advantage of this. They just need to bring in a current prescription no matter what grade they are in. Please see the nurse's with any questions ksantana@bostonpublicschools.org or apumphret@bostonpublicschools.org.

Middle School Detention

Middle School Detention is every Tuesday from 3:15 - 4:15. Please use this link to record students assigned to detention. Students will earn detention for the following reasons:

· Being in the hallways without a pass
