Shout Out

Shout out to Shout out to Maria Amy-Moreno for bringing her husband, Ramon, and son Isaac, in to teach Flamenco dancing during the elective block on Friday. Thank you to Kim Taylor-Knight for encouraging us to bring him. Mary Ellen Liacos, dance teacher, for accepting to have Isaac teach flamenco. SEI Team members Elizabeth Delgado-Prieto and Sharon Ennis for attending the workshop and for helping out with the kids.

Ms Fleming for organizing a fabulous retirement party for Charity Murphy's friends and family this past weekend. She even made a video with special shout out from students that made the evening perfect! Thanks!

Ms. Signes, Mr. Petmezis, Ms. Collins for collaborating to support students in grade 3. Our students are lucky to have you all as a team on their side! Thanks! 

Walkthrough

As part of our professional practice goal we will be tracking whole school improvements in implementing UDL practices. The first of 3 walkthroughs will take place November 10th. A range of classes will be visited by ILT members for approximately 15-20 minutes. During this time, ILT members will be taking low inference observation notes. This walkthrough in not evaluative and data will be shared through the ILT.

Tech Goes Home @ the Curley!

The families of students in grades 2-8 will have the opportunity to attend a Tech Goes Home course right here at the Curley. Technology Goes Home (TGH) strives to ensure that all residents of the City of Boston are equipped with the tools, training, and access to support 21st century skill development. After successful completion of the program, graduates will have purchased their very own Acer C710 Google Chromebook computer for $50. Flyers and applications will be placed in the boxes of teachers of grades 2-8 and should be sent home with students. Any questions should be directed to Ms. Smith (tsmith8@bostonpublicschools.org).

Teach Plus

You are invited to join Teach Plus for a diversity recruitment event at the Curley K-8 hosted by current Policy Fellows Jennifer Aponte and Kalimah Rahim. Connect with teachers from around the Greater Boston area who share your passion for teacher leadership and commitment to diversity in the teaching profession. Hear directly from our Fellows about their experience in the cohort. Read Jen's article, "How can teachers make a difference for boys of color?", here. This is just one example of the great work these teachers have done during the Fellowship.

City Year Reminder

Reminder to City Year partner teachers that the start of year survey is due this Friday. We need all partner teachers to complete it, as we utilize your feedback to craft high quality supports. Thank you in advance! Any questions, see Maria Ploessl (mploessl@cityyear.org)

Middle School 1st Term Grading Window

The first term grading window is open from October 29th until November 12th at 11:59 p.m. If you have any questions or problems, please contact Adrian Ward-Jackson. Also grades close on Friday, November 6th.

Bulletin Boards

A new instructional bulletin board should be up by Monday, November 30th. We know that not all boards have been hung up yet and we apologize for this. Please know that we have not forgotten about you! There has been regular reminders sent to facilities to get these boards hung and we are waiting on space in a specific persons schedule to make this happen. You need a special insurance to be able to hang these. Make sure that you are hanging work up inside you class! Also all boards should be accompanied by this form.

INTERNATIONAL WEEK UPDATE

Now that countries have been selected, it’s time to gather resources. This would be a great time to reach out to families! Please contact Amika and/or talk with your City Year Corps member (grades 3-8) if you would like help. Be sure to schedule time(s) with your Big-Little Buddy colleagues to visit one another’s classes on Monday &/or Tuesday, November 23rd/24th. This is when students will teach about their country and stamp visitors’ passports. NEXT PLANNING MEETING: Monday, November 9th, 3-3:30 PM – please join us!

Flu Shot

Representatives from Rite Aid will be coming to the Curley School on Tuesday 11/10 to administer Flu Shots to our staff. This Flu Clinic will run from 11am-12:30pm in the Lower School Office conference room. If you would like to receive a Flu Shot, please bring your Health Insurance Card with you that day. Rite Aid accepts 99% of Health Insurances for flu shots. Please direct any questions about the Flu Clinic to the Nurse's Office.

November 25th

We will have an early release on November 25th. This means that we will dismiss students starting at 12:25pm and all adults can dismiss starting at 12:45pm. There will be no after school programming on this day including CASP, Tenacity and City Year.

Vision Screening

NEEI will be back Monday, November 16th to finish K1 & K2 vision screening and any students who were absent.
