Shout out to Christina Burke and Eva Banks for hosting our first Open Circle Breakfast of the school year. It is comforting to know we have support in house with SEL work and the food was a bonus!Shout out to the School Parent Council (SPC) for hosting our Annual Fall Fling on Friday night to raise funds to support our school! The SPC helps to support the following partnerships/programs: arts, science, technology, Playworks and BalletROX. Thank you!
Shout out to Nina Wessen and the Health and Wellness Team for securing a Bike Blender to have students make smoothies at the Fall Fling. Everyone enjoyed the smoothies and the experience of making it. Don't know what a bike blend is? Check out this video!
Shout out to all the members of the Health and Wellness Committee who contributed their time and money in another successful smoothie station (Katie Fitch, Ann Williams, Karen Wiesel-Chan, Maria Santos, and Leida Arroyo). The smoothies were a success during the Fall Fling! Students and parents were eager to try the smoothie and to exercise for their drinks! We delivered a strong message that you can eat healthy and make it delicious at the same time! A special thank you to Bikes Not Bombs and parent Jennifer Licht for bringing by their bike blender as a method of incorporating exercise into healthy eating.
Professional Development

BTU Announcement
In the teacher lounge there are two petitions that the BTU is backing. The petitions are to raise minimum wage to $15.00 and to create a program to provide paid family and medical leave.School Climate

Curley Shares

Sole Train: Boston Runs Together
Sole Train is a community-building and mentoring program that uses running as a vehicle for young people to set and achieve seemingly impossible goals. By building a supportive community of caring peers and adults, Sole Train champions young people as they realize their capacity for greatness. The Curley K-8 has been a proud Sole Train partner for many years. This is our opportunity to show our support to the program and all the students and staff from the Curley, and many other schools, who are involved! There will be free food, a free younger kids fun run and fun music! All proceeds go to support the amazing youth in Sole Train!

FREE BSO CONCERT at the CURLEY!
The Boston Symphony Orchestra’s "BSO in Residence Program” is hosting a FREE chamber concert at the Curley at 4 PM on Sunday, October 22nd, followed by a reception. From 6:30-7:30 PM, acoustic music from the BSO and other musicians will accompany families walking around Jamaica Pond at the 34th annual JP Lantern Parade. The window for posting grades for the first progress report will close at the end of the day on next Thursday, Oct. 19. Please make sure all your grades are entered before this deadline.All grades should be input for trimester 1 (T1). If your SIS previously said Q1, it should now say T1. Any grades you have already input should still be there. Please reach out to OIIT if they are not.

Picture Day
Please take a minute to review the Picture Day Schedule to determine the time that your class is scheduled for photos. Please make every effort to be on time, as our schedule is tight. Classes in grades K through 5 should come to the side door of the Lower School near the play structure. If possible, please have the students lined up in order of height. This will make things easier and faster for our photographers. If you have any questions or concerns about the schedule, please reach out to David Diaz or Laurie Ciardi. This week you should have received picture forms in English from the main office. Individual and class photos will be taken during the week of October 24. Please see the schedule below and set the date in your calendar. We are taking pictures for over 900 students this year. In order to have a smooth and fun picture day, it is important that you keep in mind the following information:
Picture Day for grades K-8 will be as follows:
- 10/24 : K-2 & Siblings
- 10/25: 3-5 & Make-Ups
- 10/26: 6-8 & Make-Ups
- Picture forms in Spanish are available in both Main Offices upon request. Please see Ms. Vazquez or Ms. Powers.
- Parents will need to fill out separate forms for Sibling Pictures. These are also available at both Main Offices.
- Pictures need to be paid for in full and all forms need to be filled out before Picture Day. Please hold on to both forms and money and give them to the photographer on that day.
- Please be on time for your assigned time slot. Our schedule will be tight!
- Pictures for grades K-5 as well as sibling pictures will be taken in front of the Lower School on Pershing Rd.
- Pictures for grades 6-8 will be taken in front of the Upper School on Centre St.
- In case of rain, all pictures will be taken in the Upper School Auditorium
- A schedule of times for each homeroom will be coming out next Tuesday, October 10.
- Please see Ms. Powers or Ms. Vazquez if you have any questions or concerns.
