Shout out to Ms. Leah Travers for noticing that we were failing to find a vacant, private space and quickly offered her room to us this morning. Her caring was so appreciated!!
Shout out to Jessica Burque and Renee Ward for planning and facilitating a professional development session to clarify the expectations for paperwork within the IEP process. It was great to see a mix of teachers across grade levels, content areas, programs and disciplines collaborating on behalf of our students with special needs.
Shout out to Ms. Alves for completing the Annual Arts Survey through EdVestors! We will cross our fingers and hope we win the prize.
Shout out to Reina Guzman-Vivas for waiting with a student long after school dismissed on Friday due to a transportation issue. The student felt safe with you and his family so appreciated your communication and efforts. Thanks!

ELA Interim Assessment 1
Next week (Oct. 22-26) all students in grades 3-8 should take the BPS Interim Assessment #1 in ELA on the Illuminate platform. You should budget at least one full block for the assessment on these days Tuesday Grades 3 & 6, Wednesday Grades 4 & 7 and Thursday Grades 5 & 8. Students can re-log in and finish the next day if you think they need additional time. Teams will have time at the after school PD on 11/1 to norm/score the open response.
Testing Groups - Please check these groupings and contact Lindsey Morgan if you have any suggestions or see any errors.
* Grades 3-5 default start time for testing is 9am. If you are testing at a different time please reach out to the other staff who are testing your students in small group or one to one settings.

BIMAS
The Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS) is a measure of social, emotional and behavioral functioning in children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 years. It includes 34 change-sensitive items that are used for universal screening of behavioral health and for assessing response to intervention.
At the Curley, members of the Climate Team are training you in using the system during CPT during October 22nd. There will be optional times in CPT for you to complete the data entry. The due date is November 21st.
The Climate Team and Grade Level teams will be using this data to inform whole-school practices, culture/climate, and supporting your usage of current Tier 1 and eventually Tier 2 interventions.
Marquel Norton (mnorton5@bostonpublicschools.org) and your Climate Team Rep will be available to answer any and all your questions about BIMAS.

Acceleration Academy
We are most likely hosting an Acceleration Academy in February (2/19 - 2/22). We are looking for teachers in grades 3-5 to plan and teach a literacy unit and teachers in grades 6-8 to teach math. We will have about 15 students per class, the days are 6 hours in length, and teachers will be paid $2,000. Questions? Reach out to Adrian.
Halloween
We are again hosting Pajama Day on October 31st. We would love to see our entire Curley Community wearing pajamas. We are asking everyone to donate $2 as a way to raise funds for our Curley Cares student initiatives throughout the school year. The Curley K-8 will not have a Halloween celebration during the school day. As a community we are focused on health and wellness and therefore we ask that all candy remain at home. We are also asking that students leave all costumes, masks, face painting and clown paraphernalia at home as well. Thank you in advance for your support around this matter. Disney Musical 2018

WIDA Can Do For ELLs
The drive has been updated to include a folder for ELL's. In this folder you will find the WIDA Can Do Descriptors for students in Grades K-8. These are broken down into the four domains (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) and then each domain is broken into four subcategories: Recount, Explain, Argue, & Discuss. Using the students ACCESS data from January you can begin to see where you students are and where we can push them. It is important to remember that when looking at the students ACCESS scores they are just a snapshot in time from six months ago so the information may be different; however, this tool can be helpful to inform your practice.
INTERNATIONAL WEEK IS COMING!
This year at the Curley we will be celebrating International Week from November 26-30. This is an opportunity to introduce students to the world beyond classroom, school, and community — more details will be coming soon. In the meantime, you might reach out to families to find out the cultural background/ancestry of your students and talk with your classes/colleagues about countries you might like to study — perhaps collaborating on one country as a grade level team. Please let Amika know your country choice by Friday, October 26th.

We’ll watch a 3-minute slideshow, answer questions, share resources, and exchange ideas to help make this year’s experience an integral part of your teaching rather than an “add on” with no connection to your daily routines. All are welcome and refreshments will be available!

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.
- Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
- Print your form submission.
- Email list of students attending to nurses.
- Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page.
- Turn in to either main office.
- Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
- The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.
