11/15/18 Daily Bulletin

Shout Out

Shout out to Elaine Cronin for opening her practice to other reading recovery teachers. You are modeling for students the value of being a life-long learner.

Shout out to Lesley Peck-Oser for being supportive to a new teacher and offer her advice and other necessary support so she feels welcomed and successful.

CPT this Week

You can track the work of the school year on the Curley Work Plan Calendar.  You can click on the hyperlinks and it will bring you to agendas/ppt and information by week of the school year. Coaches and admin will be leading meetings for teams this coming week.

Bulletin Boards

It is that time again, please make sure to have your bulletin board updated with student work by Monday, November 19th. All bulletin boards should have the Curley template posted with it. This is a great project for a student teacher and/or a set of responsible students. It is important that things are stapled up in all corners. Please note that you can share whole group learning (number talk, sample of writing process, response to reading etc....) The work does NOT have to be perfect we prefer authenticity. Bulletin Boards make our hallways feel warm and welcoming and help us celebrate our students.

Preference Sheets

We are beginning the planning process for SY 2019-20 and would like to take into consideration teacher preferences for next year. We are sending these out earlier than the schedule required by the contract so that we can better prepare for the budget process and for meeting the needs of our students for next year. We anticipate that the Curley will have the same grade configuration as this year. Please fill out the attached form to indicate your preferences for SY 2019-20. Please complete by Friday, November 30, 2018.


Curley Shopping Night on Centre St.

This THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15th from 3:00-8:00pm several shops on Centre Street—Hatched, Cacao, Papercuts, OnCentre, Boing!, Fire Opal, Kitchenwitch, and Streetcar—will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Curley K-8. Simply mention the Curley at checkout. Get a jump on your holiday shopping while supporting local small businesses and the Curley!

Artifacts

Please be sure to upload your artifacts on EDFS by Friday, December 21st. You should upload 1-2 artifacts for each goal (two goals) AND each standard (four standards) for a total of 6-12 artifacts. SLG and PPG - Upload your tracker of student conferences with your focus student & evidence of relationship building with the focus students
Standard I - Upload a Unit Plan created with your team and a sample of student work
Standard II - Upload evidence of differentiation (or modification if applicable) and a sample of students work to match this
Standard III - Upload a sample call log or documentation of communication with families
Standard IV - Upload evidence of your professional collaboration such as a minutes from a team meeting

Early Release Schedule

Wednesday, November 21st will be an early release day for students and staff. Please review the Early Release Schedule for that day and reach out to David Diaz or Laurie Ciardi with any questions or concerns. 

BTU All In Food Drive - 11/14/18

Check your cabinets and pantries. All donations will make a difference! There are only TWO days until the end of the food drive. Let's show how much the CURLEY CARES!!
• Drop off donations at one of three locations: upper school office by staff mailboxes, teacher’s lounge (upper school), or inside the lower school main entrance
Most Desired Non-Perishable Food Items:
• Protein: Tuna fish, chicken, salmon, beans, peanut butter, low-sodium soups & stews, nuts
• Vegetables: Low-sodium vegetables, tomato products, spaghetti sauce
• Fruit: Dried fruit, applesauce, any canned fruit in its own juice
• Dairy: Dried, evaporated, and boxed shelf-stable milk
• We also accept unopened toiletries: shampoo, soap, shaving cream, etc. 
Donations will be delivered to the BTU Hall Wednesday evening and then distributed to the Greater Boston Food Bank.

November, 2018 Curley Cares Student Awards

The next Curley Cares assembly of the 2018-2019 school year will be held in Friday, November 30, 2018. Curley Cares awards are intended to reinforce positive student behaviors in support of the Curley Cares rules and the expectation/hope is that every Curley K8 student should earn at least one award each year. Throughout the year, reach out to members of your grade-level team, paras, specialists, and other staff to help try and make this happen. With this in mind PLEASE take a moment to recognize students who are doing their best to support the Curley Cares way.
Please use the NOVEMBER 2018 FORM to submit student names so they may receive an award at our Friday, November 30, 2018 Curley Shares assemblies. You may reference the 1819_CurleyCaresStudentRecipients list to see the names of students who have already received awards this year. Please SUBMIT awards by 4:00pm Tuesday, November 27, 2018.


BIMAS

The Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS) is a measure of social, emotional and behavioral functioning in children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 years. It includes 34 change-sensitive items that are used for universal screening of behavioral health and for assessing response to intervention. There will be optional times in CPT for you to complete the data entry. The due date is November 21st. Marquel Norton (mnorton5@bostonpublicschools.org) and your Climate Team Rep will be available to answer any and all your questions about BIMAS. Below are the Powerpoint presentation and the  FAQ.

Acceleration Academy

We are most likely hosting an Acceleration Academy in February (2/19 - 2/22). We are looking for teachers in grades 3-5 to plan and teach a literacy unit and teachers in grades 6-8 to teach math. We will have about 15 students per class, the days are 6 hours in length, and teachers will be paid $2,000. Questions? Reach out to Adrian.

Field Trip Request Procedure

All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.
  • Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
  • Print your form submission. 
  • Email list of students attending to nurses. 
  • Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
  • Turn in to either main office. 
  • Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
  • The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.
