Shout out to all Curley K-8 Staff! The Admin Team is THANKFUL and GRATEFUL for all you do each and everyday for students. Your commitment to our school community and families is inspiring to us and we feel blessed to work and alongside you each and every day! The expectation has been that all participants exchange visits with at least one other class, usually on Friday, to learn about one another’s country and to do an activity together. Many classes exchange with their cross-grade buddies; others will exchange with grade level peers. Passports and country stamps will be given out this week, before the Thanksgiving break. Please send passports to specialists with your students during International Week!

Coaches and admin will be leading meetings for teams this coming week on Monday and Tuesday. Middle School will only have Content meetings this week on Tuesday.Bulletin Boards
It is that time again, please make sure to have your bulletin board updated with student work by Monday, November 19th. All bulletin boards should have the Curley template posted with it. This is a great project for a student teacher and/or a set of responsible students. It is important that things are stapled up in all corners. Please note that you can share whole group learning (number talk, sample of writing process, response to reading etc....) The work does have to be perfect we prefer authenticity. Bulletin Boards make our hallways feel warm and welcoming and help us celebrate our students.
Early Release Schedule
Wednesday, November 21st will be an early release day for students and staff. Please review the Early Release Schedule for that day and reach out to David Diaz or Laurie Ciardi with any questions or concerns.

Special Education Progress Reports
- 1st round of Progress Reports are due in Edplan by 9 am December 5th for all grade levels. Please enter under Progress Report 1. Please make sure your name and title appear after the entry.
- Progress Report Video please review the guidelines below as well.
- When entering progress reports please make sure you a entering in your domain/goal area. There are no headings and you will see all goals for all providers when you log in. Please be careful not to erase information in the text box. You can label your entry "1st Marking Period 12.2018" or "Progress Report 1 December 2018". Please make sure your name and title appear after the entry.
- Do not click Finalize. Click Save and Move On. Karen and I will do the finalization. If you finalize before all providers have entered they will be locked out.
- We will not be completing progress reports for K0/K1/K2 for Round 1.
- Progress Report Power Point included the Power Point from the training a few weeks back.

Supporting Colleagues Addressing Difficult Behaviors
As a school with a population of students with diverse needs, we have students who demonstrate challenging behaviors. Often these behaviors happen in common areas of our school. In the midst of a tantrum, a child's behavior can look unsafe or overwhelming and when we see a teacher in a challenging situation, our first instinct is to offer help or support in some way. Although intentions are good, typically adding another adult to the situation who is not familiar with the child or the child’s behavior plan, can cause more harm to the situation than help.
As we build our best practices for supporting all students at the Curley, we would like to create a culture where the lead teacher will ask for support when he/she needs it. The lead teacher will give you (the supporting adult) a specific task (i.e. please help my class walk down the hall). If you think a teacher needs support and has not asked, you can check in by making eye contact. Please do not speak to or interact with the child. Some behaviors are increased by adult attention and for some children withholding attention is part of a treatment plan. If a teacher does not need your support, ignore the situation and instruct your students to do so as well. We encourage you to follow up at a later time to further discuss a situation.

Para Professional Technology Course
BPS & BTU are offering two hours training in Google for Paraprofessionals after school. As of now, there are three locations: Charles H. Taylor Elementary, Curley k-8 School, and the JF Condon. ACCESS Testing
Staff, it is that time of year again to prepare for ACCESS: This year all teachers need to retrain for administering the test. You will need to log into to www.wida.us, read the information and take a quiz for each section you need to take. You must score at least 80% on the section in order to be certified to administer the test. All students grade 1-8 will be taking the test on-line. Grades 1-3 will take the writing section on paper.

Preference Sheets
We are beginning the planning process for SY 2019-20 and would like to take into consideration teacher preferences for next year. We are sending these out earlier than the schedule required by the contract so that we can better prepare for the budget process and for meeting the needs of our students for next year. We anticipate that the Curley will have the same grade configuration as this year. Please fill out the attached form to indicate your preferences for SY 2019-20. Please complete by Friday, November 30, 2018.
School Preview Time
It is that time again! Families will be choosing schools for SY 2019-2020. We will host three events here at Curley for perspective families. Current Curley families will support these three events and provide guided tours throughout the building.- Friday, November 30th 9am-10am

Artifacts
Please be sure to upload your artifacts on EDFS by Friday, December 21st. You should upload 1-2 artifacts for each goal (two goals) AND each standard (four standards) for a total of 6-12 artifacts. SLG and PPG - Upload your tracker of student conferences with your focus student & evidence of relationship building with the focus students
Standard I - Upload a Unit Plan created with your team and a sample of student work
Standard II - Upload evidence of differentiation (or modification if applicable) and a sample of students work to match this
Standard III - Upload a sample call log or documentation of communication with families
Standard IV - Upload evidence of your professional collaboration such as a minutes from a team meeting
November, 2018 Curley Cares Student Awards
The next Curley Cares assembly of the 2018-2019 school year will be held in Friday, November 30, 2018. Curley Cares awards are intended to reinforce positive student behaviors in support of the Curley Cares rules and the expectation/hope is that every Curley K8 student should earn at least one award each year. Throughout the year, reach out to members of your grade-level team, paras, specialists, and other staff to help try and make this happen. With this in mind PLEASE take a moment to recognize students who are doing their best to support the Curley Cares way.
Please use the NOVEMBER 2018 FORM to submit student names so they may receive an award at our Friday, November 30, 2018 Curley Shares assemblies. BIMAS
The Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS) is a measure of social, emotional and behavioral functioning in children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 years. It includes 34 change-sensitive items that are used for universal screening of behavioral health and for assessing response to intervention. There will be optional times in CPT for you to complete the data entry. The due date is November 21st. Marquel Norton (mnorton5@bostonpublicschools.org) and your Climate Team Rep will be available to answer any and all your questions about BIMAS. Below are the Powerpoint presentation and the FAQ.

- Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
- Print your form submission.
- Email list of students attending to nurses.
- Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page.
- Turn in to either main office.
- Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
- The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.
