11/8/18 Daily Bulletin

Shout Out

Shout out to  Ms. Negoshian and Ms. Badiali for being such supportive teammates❤️

Shout out to all the teachers, paras, itinerants, interns, student teachers, lunch monitors, CASP Staff and partners who make our work here at Curley possible! Our students love you and learn each and everyday from your modeling and explicit teaching. Thank you for caring about others! Teacher Appreciation may only take place one day a year but we appreciate you all 365 days a year! We hope HALFWAY TO TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY was enjoyable and we are grateful for all you do for our students day in and day out! Thanks!

Shout out to Denzel Mai in 4th grade who singlehandedly planned a surprise going-away celebration for a classmate. He secretly planned this event and card writing during his break-time each day. He even brought a special snack from his house to share with all of the students in the class - AND he made sure it was peanut-free so that all of his classmates could enjoy the snack! His compassion for others that he shows every single day is the most amazing sight to see!

Shout out to Bernice DeVoe for being a great big buddy and reporting bullying of a younger student on the school bus. Thank you for caring about others and not being afraid to stand up for what is right! You truly care!

Shoutout to Kristen Mitchell for going out of her way to help out another classroom yesterday that was understaffed. Your support was very much appreciated - thank you!

Shout out to Dierdre Anderson, Emily Beck, Kimberly Daly, and Candida Mundo-Arboleda for completing their BIMAS Rosters! You did it! Thank you for taking Care in the Curley data! AND Konstantinos Petmezis, Julia Badiali, Alissa Ferro, Kate Davis, Janet McDavitt, Craig Melzer, Carolyn Silva-Brisbin, Helenia Solimini, Konstantinos Petmezis, and Theresa Brophy for starting their BIMAS Rosters! They're almost done, go raters go!

November, 2018 Curley Cares Student Awards

The next Curley Cares assembly of the 2018-2019 school year will be held in Friday, November 30, 2018. Curley Cares awards are intended to reinforce positive student behaviors in support of the Curley Cares rules and the expectation/hope is that every Curley K8 student should earn at least one award each year. Throughout the year, reach out to members of your grade-level team, paras, specialists, and other staff to help try and make this happen (any staff member with a BPS Google login can access the form). With this in mind PLEASE take a moment (perhaps during CPT) to recognize students who are doing their best to support the Curley Cares way. Please use the NOVEMBER 2018 FORM to submit names in order for students your work with to receive an award at our Friday, November 30, 2018 Curley Shares assemblies. If you'd like to give more than 3 awards, please coordinate with your grade-level colleagues such as specialists or other staff or (if necessary) email Kate (kdavis3@bostonpublicschools.org) directly. Please SUBMIT awards by 4:00pm Tuesday, November 27, 2018.

Attendance Update

Homeroom teachers are responsible for marking student absences excused or unexcused. The office will no longer be handling this process. Also, It is important that homeroom teachers are logging calls related to student attendance. We can not move forward in the attendance process if there are no calls logged. If you have attendance questions about a specific student and/or parent letter please email Lauren Jones-Forbes at curleysuccess@gmail.com.

Beginning Monday, October 29th a member of the Attendance Team will be sending an email around 12pm to all teachers who have a student marked absent that day. This is to ensure that our records are accurate as sometimes a student misses homeroom and is marked absent when they are physically present in school.

BIMAS

The Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System (BIMAS) is a measure of social, emotional and behavioral functioning in children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 years. It includes 34 change-sensitive items that are used for universal screening of behavioral health and for assessing response to intervention. There will be optional times in CPT for you to complete the data entry. The due date is November 21st. Marquel Norton (mnorton5@bostonpublicschools.org) and your Climate Team Rep will be available to answer any and all your questions about BIMAS. Attached are FAQs and the Powerpoint presentation.

Acceleration Academy

We are most likely hosting an Acceleration Academy in February (2/19 - 2/22). We are looking for teachers in grades 3-5 to plan and teach a literacy unit and teachers in grades 6-8 to teach math.
