Teacher Action Step

Over the summer we had positive feedback that teachers liked the mixed grade level groupings led by Curley teachers and we want to extend that learning further. We have two scheduled PD sessions on November 21 & January 30 and each of you will have a choice on which session you want to go deeper on. There will be 4 offerings led by Curley teachers:
• Rigorous Standards Based Unit Design
• Adjustments to Practice
• Clear, High Expectations
• Building Academic Language for ELLs
We want you to choose a session that would help you best as an educator. This is not meant to be a team/friend decision but rather an individual reflection of where you want to grow as an educator. You will remain in the same PD topic for both November 21st and January 30th. Please rank your choices by Tuesday, November 12th at 10pm. We will sort everyone into groups and notify you by the end of next week which session you will be participating in.

Family Engagement Team

The Family Engagement Team, based on feedback from teachers and parents, is going to pilot a room or grade level parent system. This is completely optional. If you would like to pilot having a room or grade level parent, please contact Leah Travers if you cannot come to the meeting, but are interested or have any questions. The meeting is on Tuesday 11/19 at 7:30 before school in room 209. The job description for the room/grade level room is below, but open to adaptation for each parent/teacher relationship:
If you would like to pilot this, you would be agreeing to:
  • Meeting with the parent once every three months.
The room/grade level parent will have the following responsibilities:
  • Meet with their teacher or teacher team once every three months.
At that meeting, the parent and teacher:
  1. makes list for needed supplies for the classroom or tasks the teacher needs help with to send out to families (e.g. we need more snacks, help needed to build the new bookcase)
  2. document something in the classroom to share with families (e.g. take pictures of bulletin boards and class work)
  3. make plans to help with whatever the teacher needs for the trimester showcase (e.g. organizing name tags, buying food, making the flyer)
  4. create a contact list for the class or grade, in order to organize any desired meet-ups for families out of school times (e.g. organize a K1 playground date; note: teacher attendance is not expected at these events are---this is just to build community for the grade)
