Shout Out

Shout out to BalletROX and all the students who participated in the fabulous performance on Friday. It is great to see our middle schoolers excited about dance and being brave enough to perform on stage for all their families and peers! Bravo!

Shout out to the BEST partners a school community could ever ask for: Teach Next Year, Playworks, Tenacity and City Year. Thank you for all your hard work, time, ideas, energy and passion for our students! We could not be successful without each of you and we are thankful to have you on our team! Please know that you will always be a part of the Curley Community even if you are moving on to endeavors. Thank you!

Partners Breakfast

Please join us for a breakfast in honor of our AMAZING partners, City Year, Tenacity, Playworks and Teach Next Year, tomorrow, Monday, June 12th from 7:45am-8:15am in the Teacher Room. This is a potluck event (not for partners they should come hungry and empty handed).

June, 2017 Curley Cares Student Awards

We will host our last Curley Shares assemblies of this school year next Thursday, June 15th. This is our last opportunity to recognize students who are doing their best to support the Curley Cares way. Please use THIS FORM to submit names so your students can receive an award at our Thursday, June 15, 2017 Curley Cares assemblies. To date, Curley staff have given over 1,125 Curley Cares awards to students. THANK YOU!!! Please refer to THIS LIST to see those students who have already received awards this school year. Please SUBMIT awards by 4:00pm Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Awards will be presented to students during the Thursday, June 15, 2017 Curley Shares assemblies.

Pot Luck

Let's celebrate the end of another successful school year on June 14th with a Curley SPC Potluck from 6-8pm. Bring your favorite dish to share with new and old friends, take some silly photos in the "Photo Booth," hear some super exciting news from Principal Grassa and cast a vote for upcoming SPC leadership. There is much to be excited about in the next academic school year and this is a great time to celebrate our accomplishments, look forward to next year and connect with the Curley Community.

Web-Portal

BPS has created a web-portal (online form) which we are calling the “Annual Emergency Contact & RSVP Form”. This form is now live at: www.bostonpublicschools.org/contact. The reason for this email is to ensure you are aware of the value of this web-portal and why it is of the utmost importance that you and your team help us get 100% of our families to complete this form by June 14th, 2017.  This web-portal was carefully designed as a way for BPS to receive important information that can improve the level of service we are able to provide our students going forward. In addition, we will send home a flier (in all languages). Included in this online form is an opportunity for families to confirm (or change):

• their enrollment information (i.e. which school their child will attend this fall)
• their transportation preferences (i.e. if they need a bus in the morning and/or afternoon)
• their contact and emergency contact information

Schedule SY 2017-2018

Drum roll please. . . Here is our new schedule for next year!
ELT SY2017/2018 Draft  It was submitted to the district last week and will be reviewed by them for approval. Thank you to all teachers for sharing your input, ideas and reviewing drafts. A special thank you to our teacher who actually map out the schedule and make your ideas come alive Jessica Burque, Waverly Kidd, Laurie Ciardi and Olivia Peters.

Summer Reading - 2017

We are again providing school wide expectations and guidelines for summer 2017 reading. As last year, all students will be asked to take a pledge to read daily over the summer months and to maintain a log of this reading. In addition, students entering grades 4 through 8 will be expected to read one additional book, in coordination with the BPS and Boston Public Library initiative, “Summer Reading Together”. Packets of information, including the summer reading pledge, reading bingo activity, and logs are now being finalized and will be distributed to classroom teachers the week of June 19th. Last fall we solicited comments from teachers and parents via a Google survey regarding the summer reading program. Based on this feedback we are asking that no additional reading assignments be given, so that students and their families can enjoy the summer break, without multiple, sometimes duplicative, summer reading assignments. Please contact Eileen Cronin by end of day Friday, June 9th if you have questions regarding summer reading expectations.

STAR Reading Spring Benchmark Period Open(Grade 3-8 Only)

The STAR Reading Spring benchmark window is open from June 12th – 21st. ALL students in grades 3-8 should be tested during this time. Please emphasize the importance of this final benchmark data with students and remind them to approach the test thoughtfully and carefully. The data collected will be used to assess students’ progress over the past school year and will also assist in determining WIN placement for next year. All STAR Reading testing must be completed by end of day on Wednesday, June 21st. Please contact Eileen Cronin if you have any questions.

Windows

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31st you may start to see work beginning on the window project. 2-4 trailers will be delivered and we have requested they be stored in the following spaces to conserve parking spots (originally they wanted to take the whole Lower School Lot):

• 1-2 on the black top by the kickball diamond
• 1 in the grass next to the driveway entrance by the kindergarten Play structures
• 1 on the grass in front of the Lower School parking lot. 

There also may be some signs posted in the Lower School Parking Lot on random days stating not to park in a specific spot. This is due to needed space to take down the grates on the windows. This week and next week new windows should be installed in the electrical room, boiler room and the 2nd grade storage space. More details will follow as we get an update. Attached you will find a document to help you think about packing up your space for the summer.

Please click the below link for access to our closing document. ALL staff should read this and be sure to complete any steps that apply to their role. All teachers will need a printed copy so they can submit signatures by 6/28/17.

K-4 Field Day

Field Day will take place on Wednesday, June 21st. This is the final schedule, we tried to accommodate the staff that emailed Mark Righini their ideas.

• 9-10:15-Grades k1&K2
• 10:30-11:45- Grades 1&2
• 12:00-12:45-PACE
• 12:45-2:00 Grades 3&4
• Rain Date 6/27 / I know it is early release but is the only day that seems to work for a rain date.

IEP Progress Reports

Progress Reports will open Tuesday, May 16th and will close at 4pm on June 12th. All progress reports need to completed in SEIMS. Please let Karen or Jessica know if there are any questions or concerns.

SUPPORT THE CURLEY K-8 LIBRARY…AND GET CAR SERVICE FROM MORRISON’S AUTO-RITE

Morrison’s Auto-Rite (475 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain) is offering car maintenance services for FREE with a small donation to the Curley Library (the total cost of the car services far exceed the donation!!!) Bring a check or money order to Morrison’s Auto-Rite made out to the Friend's of the Curley Fund for $95 and Morrison’s Auto-Rite will provide you with the following services and items:

• Free comprehensive multi-point inspection (check over your car’s health) including: 
• Free Oil Change (up to a $39.95 value). NOTE: some cars have additional charges for synthetic oil 
• Rotate tires 
• Balance two front tires (while doing rotation) 
• Free front wiper blades (most cars); no appointment needed for wiper blade install 
• Second free oil change (up to a $39.95 value) 
• Upgraded warranty on repair work done by Morrison’s Auto Rite to 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. (There are a few exceptions for normal wear items, i.e. tires) 
• Unlimited tire pressure adjusting, no appointment needed 
• Unlimited fluid level checks, no appointment needed

BTU Vote

Both paras and teachers voted to convert afternoon hours of PD into summer hours. Teachers will report for PD on Wednesday, August 30th and Thursday August 31st for PD from 8am-3pm. Paras will report on Wednesday, August 30th from 8:00am-2:00pm.
