Shout Out

Shout out to Ms. Lieberman, Ms. O'Connor, and Ms. Ennis for making it possible for another colleague to attend the Project-Based Learning training today.

Shout out to Ms. Lieberman for supplying the 6th grade science classroom with free lab equipment passed on from a friend!

Shout out to Maria Amy-Moreno, Nina Wessen, Olivia Peters, Lesley Peck-Oser, Alisa Ferro, Dawn Avery, Craig Melzer, Alisa Fleming, Paige Stokes, Charles Tewksbury, Maria Navarro, and Ms. Campbell for all working as a team and making this trip a reality. We also like to thank all of the teachers that stayed behind taking care of those students that did not go on the trip. A special recognition to the Curley Parent Council (Ms. Heidi Brooks) for her generous contribution in providing funds to pay for the buses for Tuesday and Wednesday trips to Canobie Lake. The trip to Canobie Lake was extremely fun and the kids enjoyed getting on the rides in the company of their classmates and friends from other grade teams.

Shout out to Teresa Javaloyes, Lindsey Wright, Sharon Pina-Pitts, Meron Tefera, Laura Strait, Leida Arroyo, Karine Joseph, Charlotte Wright and Blanca Pereira for taking a risk and ending the year by having student complete a Capstone Project. This was part of a larger state and district project to think of alternative ways to assess student learning beyond a standardized test! The student work was amazing and exceed the expectations of families! Thank you for chaperoning students to the Bolling Building to share their learning last night with 12 other schools and for hosting a packed gallery event today for families and grades 3 & 5. From our Nurse to Staff & Families

As we wrap up another successful school year we here in the Nurse's Office would like to send out a few reminders:

• If you child has a medication in the nurse's office please see attached document about proper pick up of the medication. 
• If your child has had a recent physical, please send a copy into school with your child so we may update his/her records. You may also fax this information to 617-635-8244. The information may also be emailed to apumphret@bostonpublicschools.org or mregan@bostonpublicschools.org 
• Please keep in mind that if your child will require medication in school for the school year 2017/2018 we will need updated medication orders. Students requiring asthma medication in school must have an updated Asthma Action Plan. Students with Life Threatening Allergies must have an updated Allergy Action Plan. This is especially important for children with food allergies as we will need to communicate this information with BPS Nutrition. Medication used by children in school must be accompanied by a doctor's order or plan and the medication must in it's original packaging with proper labeling and unexpired. All students receiving medications in school should also have an up to date physical on file in school. CASP Meeting

Please join us for a planning meeting on Thursday, June 22nd from 6pm-7:30pm in the CASP Office. Instructional Superintendent, Dr. Alex Montes McNeil and Acting CASP Director, Erika Mercado will lead the group through a process of designing structures and systems to best support CASP moving forward. This meeting is a way to gather ideas regarding an Advisory Board for CASP. All are welcome to attend and childcare will be provided.

Save Items

PHOTOS - Please leave your ROOM SIGNS in place if you are staying in the same room. If you will be in a different room next year, just take the photo with you and leave the sleeve. If you are leaving us, please feel free to take your sign with you! :) There are several photos of classes preparing for the CURLEY CARES MARCH on the bulletin board across from the Teachers’ Room — if they are of your students, please feel free to take them down and give them to the students pictured. Also please save any Curley Signs that are already in rooms and hallways.

Supply Lists

Some teams have been asking about supply lists, so here are some reminders. Directions for supply lists are in the check out document (#11)! (See later in the blog, or click here) Teams can choose to pool their money, or spend individually. Each team has access to a tab on the spreadsheet linked in the document where you can input your supply lists. Reach out to Laurie Ciardi or Lindsey Morgan if you have further questions. Thanks! PS Don't forget to include your new teammates for next year!

Summer Reading 2017 - Update

Student summer reading packets will be distributed this week. As last year, all students will be asked to take a pledge to read daily over the summer months and to maintain a log of this reading. In addition, students entering grades 4 through 8 will be expected to read one additional book, in coordination with the BPS and Boston Public Library initiative, “Summer Reading Together”. We are asking that no additional reading assignments be given, so that students and their families can enjoy the summer break, without multiple, sometimes duplicative, summer reading assignments. Please contact Eileen Cronin if you have questions regarding summer reading expectations.

Closing Document

Please click the below link for access to our closing document. ALL staff should read this and be sure to complete any steps that apply to their role. All teachers will need a printed copy so they can submit signatures by 6/28/17.

Grade Level/Content Team Reflections

We are asking all teams to reflect on their year collaborating together. This is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate successes but also to be honest about how we can improve to support the growth and learning of the team. If you are facilitating the meeting think about how your team will complete this activity (i.e. charting out on sticky notes, completing a Google Form, open discussion, etc...). All teams are expected to complete this activity and and email the following document to David Diaz by Wednesday, June 28th (you will need to make a copy of the document before you complete it). Teams may choose when they complete this at CPT or time on 6/27 -6/28 12:30-2:45pm). We are asking that this is not a rushed activity but an honest discussion and reflection. This document will be returned to teams in September to help them plan and start the year off strong.

Term 4 Grading Window for Grades 6-11

The term 4 Grading window for grades 6-11 students is currently open from June 8th and closes on June 28th.

Reminder: After entering or editing term grades in the scores tab, teachers must click Post Grades to write the grades to the report cards. Grades will be saved as you enter them but they will not appear on the report cards until you click Post Grades.
Also remember to enter Final grades in addition to Term 4 marks.

Dear Curley Staff,
I wanted to thank everyone at the Curley for partnering with Boston Children’s Hospital Neighborhood Partnerships Training and Access Project (BCHNP-TAP) . This program is designed as a two year partnership and this year marks the end of our two years.
As a part of measuring both our progress with the Curley as well as your school’s future needs, we are requesting that all school staff complete a survey that includes a number of items specific to the social, emotional, and behavioral health needs of students at your school. The survey results will only be shared with the school in the aggregate and individual responses will not be shared. The survey will take 7-10 minutes to complete.

It has been a privilege to work with this school and it has been a wonderful experience to see your ongoing commitment and dedication to your students and families. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Curley and such an incredible staff.

PD SY 2017-2018

Both paras and teachers voted to convert afternoon hours of PD into summer hours.

• Teachers will report for PD on Wednesday, August 30th and Thursday August 31st for PD from 8am-3pm. 
• Paras will report on Wednesday, August 30th from 8:00am-2:00pm.
• Teachers and paras will report on Tuesday, September 5th from 8:30am-2:30pm for PD
• Teacher will stay after school for PD from 3:45pm-5:45pm on the following Thursdays: October 19th, November 30th,  February 1st,  March 22nd, and May 31st 

Curley After School Program

Our last full day of the Curley After School Program (CASP) will be on Monday, June 26, 2017. Please be advised that the Curley Before School Program will continue until the last day of school June 28, 2017 from 7:00-8:15. Please join us celebrate the end of another WONDERFUL year at CASP at our end of the year BASH on June 23, 2017 4:00-6:00.

Open Circle

K-5 teachers: Open Circle trainings have been posted on My Learning Plan. If you have not been trained, please sign up for a summer training. The cost is covered and all curriculum materials are provided. Sign up today in My Learning Plan. Training dates are as follows:

Schedule SY 2017-2018

ELT SY2017/2018 Draft  It was submitted to the district last week and will be reviewed by them for approval. Thank you to all teachers for sharing your input, ideas and reviewing drafts. A special thank you to our teacher who actually map out the schedule and make your ideas come alive Jessica Burque, Waverly Kidd, Laurie Ciardi and Olivia Peters.

STAR Reading Spring Benchmark Period Open(Grade 3-8 Only)

The STAR Reading Spring benchmark window is open from June 12th – 21st. ALL students in grades 3-8 should be tested during this time. Please emphasize the importance of this final benchmark data with students and remind them to approach the test thoughtfully and carefully. The data collected will be used to assess students’ progress over the past school year and will also assist in determining WIN placement for next year. All STAR Reading testing must be completed by end of day on Wednesday, June 21st. Please contact Eileen Cronin if you have any questions.

Windows

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31st you may start to see work beginning on the window project. 2-4 trailers will be delivered and we have requested they be stored in the following spaces to conserve parking spots (originally they wanted to take the whole Lower School Lot):

• 1-2 on the black top by the kickball diamond
• 1 in the grass next to the driveway entrance by the kindergarten Play structures
• 1 on the grass in front of the Lower School parking lot. 

There also may be some signs posted in the Lower School Parking Lot on random days stating not to park in a specific spot. This is due to needed space to take down the grates on the windows. This week and next week new windows should be installed in the electrical room, boiler room and the 2nd grade storage space. More details will follow as we get an update. Attached you will find a document to help you think about packing up your space for the summer.
