Shout Out

Shout out to Nelly Rivera for being brave and learning some new technology techniques for Curley Shares. You are a great model for your students about trying new things!

Shout out to Tenacity for hosting their Annual End of the Year Ceremony. It was a beautiful evening with a Wimbledon theme. The event was filled with proud parents, excited students and passionate Tenacity staff. Thank you for your hard wok everyday to support our middle schoolers!

Shout out to Lesley Peck-Oser, Kiki Iatrou, Dawn Avery, Lindsey Wright, Debbie Bryson, Joanne Mylett, Tristan Maiden, Kandi Quarterson and Kristin Clark for their hard work on MCAS ALTs. The results are in and our students did very well! We know how hard you work to make sure that students are held to high expectations and the results of our ALTs supported that work. We submitted more ALT assessments than ever before and we are impressed with your attention to detail and respect for students and families. Thank you for believing in our students and supporting them on their growth continuum.

Shout out to Katie Davis and Meron Tefera for they hard work this year with our student and staff awards. We appreciate Kate's regular and clear communication as well as Meron's willingness to copy and organize the awards for us! Thank you!

Shout out to Sharon Ennis for supporting several teachers these last few weeks on how to incorporate technology into their classrooms. We appreciate that you gave up your morning personal time to work with us! Thanks!

PD SY 2017-2018

Both paras and teachers voted to convert afternoon hours of PD into summer hours. 

• Teachers will report for PD on Wednesday, August 30th and Thursday August 31st for PD from 8am-3pm. 
• Paras will report on Wednesday, August 30th from 8:00am-2:00pm.
• Teachers and paras will report on Tuesday, September 5th from 8:30am-2:30pm for PD
• Teacher will stay after school for PD from 3:45pm-5:45pm on the following Thursdays: October 19th, November 30th,  February 1st,  March 22nd, and May 31st 

 Grade Level/Content Team Reflections

We are asking all teams to reflect on their year collaborating together. This is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate successes but also to be honest about how we can improve to support the growth and learning of the team. If you are facilitating the meeting think about how your team will complete this activity (i.e. charting out on sticky notes, completing a Google Form, open discussion, etc...). All teams are expected to complete this activity and and email the following document to David Diaz by Wednesday, June 28th (you will need to make a copy of the document before you complete it). Teams may choose when they complete this at CPT or time on 6/27 -6/28 12:30-2:45pm). We are asking that this is not a rushed activity but an honest discussion and reflection. This document will be returned to teams in September to help them plan and start the year off strong.

Dear Curley Staff,
I wanted to thank everyone at the Curley for partnering with Boston Children’s Hospital Neighborhood Partnerships Training and Access Project (BCHNP-TAP) . This program is designed as a two year partnership and this year marks the end of our two years.
As a part of measuring both our progress with the Curley as well as your school’s future needs, we are requesting that all school staff complete a survey that includes a number of items specific to the social, emotional, and behavioral health needs of students at your school. The survey results will only be shared with the school in the aggregate and individual responses will not be shared. The survey will take 7-10 minutes to complete.

It has been a privilege to work with this school and it has been a wonderful experience to see your ongoing commitment and dedication to your students and families. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Curley and such an incredible staff.

Curley After School Program

Our last full day of the Curley After School Program (CASP) will be on Monday, June 26, 2017. Please be advised that the Curley Before School Program will continue until the last day of school June 28, 2017 from 7:00-8:15. Please join us celebrate the end of another WONDERFUL year at CASP at our end of the year BASH on June 23, 2017 4:00-6:00.

Hat Day

8th Graders are facilitating our annual Hat Day to raise funds for their Moving On Ceremony. Hat Day will take place this Friday, June 16th. Students who contribute $1 will be given a bracelet and will be permitted to wear a hat on Friday. Homeroom teachers will receive fliers to distribute on Wednesday. We will supply bracelets and envelopes on Thursday. We look forward to seeing our entire school community supporting our 8th Graders, thanks so much for your support. Term 4 Grading Window for Grades 6-11

The term 4 Grading window for grades 6-11 students is currently open from June 8th and closes on June 28th.

Reminder: After entering or editing term grades in the scores tab, teachers must click Post Grades to write the grades to the report cards. Grades will be saved as you enter them but they will not appear on the report cards until you click Post Grades.
Also remember to enter Final grades in addition to Term 4 marks.

Spring Term Report Card Grading Window for Grades K2 - 5

The spring grading window for students in grades 1-5 is will open from June 6th to June 23rd. Please refer to the materials below for instructions on entering grades.

Open Circle

K-5 teachers: Open Circle trainings have been posted on My Learning Plan. If you have not been trained, please sign up for a summer training. The cost is covered and all curriculum materials are provided. Sign up today in My Learning Plan. Training dates are as follows:

Web-Portal

BPS has created a web-portal (online form) which we are calling the “Annual Emergency Contact & RSVP Form”. This form is now live at: www.bostonpublicschools.org/contact. The reason for this email is to ensure you are aware of the value of this web-portal and why it is of the utmost importance that you and your team help us get 100% of our families to complete this form by June 14th, 2017.  This web-portal was carefully designed as a way for BPS to receive important information that can improve the level of service we are able to provide our students going forward. In addition, we will send home a flier (in all languages). Included in this online form is an opportunity for families to confirm (or change):

• their enrollment information (i.e. which school their child will attend this fall)
• their transportation preferences (i.e. if they need a bus in the morning and/or afternoon)
• their contact and emergency contact information

Schedule SY 2017-2018

Drum roll please. . . Here is our new schedule for next year!
ELT SY2017/2018 Draft  It was submitted to the district last week and will be reviewed by them for approval. Thank you to all teachers for sharing your input, ideas and reviewing drafts. A special thank you to our teacher who actually map out the schedule and make your ideas come alive Jessica Burque, Waverly Kidd, Laurie Ciardi and Olivia Peters.

Summer Reading - 2017

We are again providing school wide expectations and guidelines for summer 2017 reading. As last year, all students will be asked to take a pledge to read daily over the summer months and to maintain a log of this reading. In addition, students entering grades 4 through 8 will be expected to read one additional book, in coordination with the BPS and Boston Public Library initiative, “Summer Reading Together”. Packets of information, including the summer reading pledge, reading bingo activity, and logs are now being finalized and will be distributed to classroom teachers the week of June 19th. Last fall we solicited comments from teachers and parents via a Google survey regarding the summer reading program. Based on this feedback we are asking that no additional reading assignments be given, so that students and their families can enjoy the summer break, without multiple, sometimes duplicative, summer reading assignments. Please contact Eileen Cronin by end of day Friday, June 9th if you have questions regarding summer reading expectations.

STAR Reading Spring Benchmark Period Open(Grade 3-8 Only)

The STAR Reading Spring benchmark window is open from June 12th – 21st. ALL students in grades 3-8 should be tested during this time. Please emphasize the importance of this final benchmark data with students and remind them to approach the test thoughtfully and carefully. The data collected will be used to assess students’ progress over the past school year and will also assist in determining WIN placement for next year. All STAR Reading testing must be completed by end of day on Wednesday, June 21st. Please contact Eileen Cronin if you have any questions.

Windows

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31st you may start to see work beginning on the window project. 2-4 trailers will be delivered and we have requested they be stored in the following spaces to conserve parking spots (originally they wanted to take the whole Lower School Lot):

• 1-2 on the black top by the kickball diamond
• 1 in the grass next to the driveway entrance by the kindergarten Play structures
• 1 on the grass in front of the Lower School parking lot. 

There also may be some signs posted in the Lower School Parking Lot on random days stating not to park in a specific spot. This is due to needed space to take down the grates on the windows. This week and next week new windows should be installed in the electrical room, boiler room and the 2nd grade storage space. More details will follow as we get an update. Attached you will find a document to help you think about packing up your space for the summer.

K-4 Field Day

Field Day will take place on Wednesday, June 21st. This is the final schedule, we tried to accommodate the staff that emailed Mark Righini their ideas.

• 9-10:15-Grades k1&K2
• 10:30-11:45- Grades 1&2
• 12:00-12:45-PACE
• 12:45-2:00 Grades 3&4
• Rain Date 6/27 / I know it is early release but is the only day that seems to work for a rain date.

• Free comprehensive multi-point inspection (check over your car’s health) including: 
• Free Oil Change (up to a $39.95 value). NOTE: some cars have additional charges for synthetic oil 
• Rotate tires 
• Balance two front tires (while doing rotation) 
• Free front wiper blades (most cars); no appointment needed for wiper blade install 
• Second free oil change (up to a $39.95 value) 
• Upgraded warranty on repair work done by Morrison’s Auto Rite to 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. (There are a few exceptions for normal wear items, i.e. tires)
