Shout Out

Shout out to Emanuela Alves for leading an INCREDIBLE Chorus K-2 and 6-8. The show in Friday was standing room only and families were so proud of their students. Over 300 students performed on stage and we loud and clear! Thank you for bringing a chorus program to our school and empowering our students through song, performance and music!

Shout out to 8th grader Cassie Cadet for being recognized last week at the Boys and Girls Club Teen Recognition Dinner! This is event is for teens who show leadership from all the clubhouses across Boston!!!

Shout out to Candida Mundo for organizing and planning the Curley End of Year party! The event was fun for all who attended. Thank you for your thoughtful details and recognition of our three retirees! Also thanks to Maria Amy-Moreno, our resident DJ, who knows how to get a party started and get everyone on the dance floor!

Schedule SY 2017-2018

ELT SY2017/2018 Draft  It was submitted to the district last week and will be reviewed by them for approval. Thank you to all teachers for sharing your input, ideas and reviewing drafts. A special thank you to our teacher who actually map out the schedule and make your ideas come alive Jessica Burque, Waverly Kidd, Laurie Ciardi and Olivia Peters.

Art Show

Please join us for the grades 4-8 Student Art Exhibit is Thursday, June 8 from 5:30-6:30. Work will be displayed in the front lobby, hallways, cafeteria, and points in between. Ballet Rox

Come support this term's BalletRox showcase! Our classes have worked hard to put together series of dances to be performed on Friday, June 9th in the auditorium at 12:50 p.m. Be a part of this rhythm!

PT/OT room material return

As the school year winds down and rooms are packed up, we would like materials and supplies labeled PT/OT to be returned to the motor room (rm. 213 lower school). Examples of what has been lent out are alternative seating, seat cushions, chair bands, fidgets and pencil grips. Please let us know if you have questions. Thank you!

Summer Reading - 2017

We are again providing school wide expectations and guidelines for summer 2017 reading. As last year, all students will be asked to take a pledge to read daily over the summer months and to maintain a log of this reading. In addition, students entering grades 4 through 8 will be expected to read one additional book, in coordination with the BPS and Boston Public Library initiative, “Summer Reading Together”. Packets of information, including the summer reading pledge, reading bingo activity, and logs are now being finalized and will be distributed to classroom teachers the week of June 19th. Last fall we solicited comments from teachers and parents via a Google survey regarding the summer reading program. Based on this feedback we are asking that no additional reading assignments be given, so that students and their families can enjoy the summer break, without multiple, sometimes duplicative, summer reading assignments. Please contact Eileen Cronin by end of day Friday, June 9th if you have questions regarding summer reading expectations.

Teacher Summer Institute: Call for Session Proposals

STAR Math Spring Benchmark Period Open(Grade 3-8 Only)

The STAR Math Spring benchmark window is open from June 5th – 9th. ALL students in grades 3-8 should be tested during this time. Please emphasize the importance of this final benchmark data with students emphasize that this is an opportunity to show how much they have grown this year. The data collected will be used to assess students’ progress over the past school year and will also assist in determining WIN placement for next year so let students know it is important to try their best to avoid being placed in a WIN block that is not reflective of their abilities. All STAR Math testing must be completed by end of day on Friday, June 9th . It has been helpful to share past student growth with students in the form of the growth reports with students. Ms. Wessen has found success in motivating students by conferencing with students and discussing growth reports. Please get in contact with Ms. Wessen if you have questions on how she shared reports. International Week

There will be a planning meeting for next year’s INTERNATIONAL WEEK (November 13-17) next Tuesday, June 6th, from 2:45-3:30 PM in Upper School Room 207 — we will be discussing logistics for a flag parade to kick off the week. 2016 Notes and Recommendations based on staff feedback are in the International Week folder on the Curley Drive (under Meeting Notes) for your reference. All are welcome — please join us!

Windows

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31st you may start to see work beginning on the window project. 2-4 trailers will be delivered and we have requested they be stored in the following spaces to conserve parking spots (originally they wanted to take the whole Lower School Lot):

• 1-2 on the black top by the kickball diamond
• 1 in the grass next to the driveway entrance by the kindergarten Play structures
• 1 on the grass in front of the Lower School parking lot. 

There also may be some signs posted in the Lower School Parking Lot on random days stating not to park in a specific spot. This is due to needed space to take down the grates on the windows. This week and next week new windows should be installed in the electrical room, boiler room and the 2nd grade storage space. More details will follow as we get an update. Attached you will find a document to help you think about packing up your space for the summer.

Pot Luck

Let's celebrate the end of another successful school year on June 14th with a Curley SPC Potluck from 6-8pm. Bring your favorite dish to share with new and old friends, take some silly photos in the "Photo Booth," hear some super exciting news from Principal Grassa and cast a vote for upcoming SPC leadership. There is much to be excited about in the next academic school year and this is a great time to celebrate our accomplishments, look forward to next year and connect with the Curley Community.

 Outdoor Recess Time

The weather is getting nicer by the day and we know everyone is eager to get students outside to play. Please keep in mind that there are scheduled times for recess throughout the school and added classes should not be added during those times. We have a schedule to ensure all students are safe. If staff want to request time on the field they can submit a request online at curleyk8.blogspot.com. Please note that PACE has recess scheduled on the play structures daily from 9:45-10:15 & 1:30-2:00. To help maintain safe student to staff ratio they should be the only classes on the play structure at that time. Otherwise recess is outside from 10:40-11:40 on the play structures and 12:00-1:20 on the play structures, black top and field.

K-4 Field Day

Field Day will take place on Wednesday, June 21st with a rain date of Thursday, June 22nd. More details will follow and reach out to Mark Righini with any questions or ideas.

IEP Progress Reports

Progress Reports will open Tuesday, May 16th and will close at 4pm on June 12th. All progress reports need to completed in SEIMS. Please let Karen or Jessica know if there are any questions or concerns.

• Free comprehensive multi-point inspection (check over your car’s health) including: 
• Free Oil Change (up to a $39.95 value). NOTE: some cars have additional charges for synthetic oil 
• Rotate tires 
• Balance two front tires (while doing rotation) 
• Free front wiper blades (most cars); no appointment needed for wiper blade install 
• Second free oil change (up to a $39.95 value) 
• Upgraded warranty on repair work done by Morrison’s Auto Rite to 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. (There are a few exceptions for normal wear items, i.e. tires)

BTU Vote

Both paras and teachers voted to convert afternoon hours of PD into summer hours. Teachers will report for PD on Wednesday, August 30th and Thursday August 31st for PD from 8am-3pm. Paras will report on Wednesday, August 30th from 8:00am-2:00pm.
