Shout Out

Shout out to Laura Shea on the birth of her son, Kane Wilder Shea Anderson. He joined his family according to his own schedule on Saturday night at 6:49pm. He was born a few weeks early and weighs 4lb 10oz and is already breathing on his own. He’s a fighter just like his mom.

 

Shout out to Amika Kemmler-Ernst for not missing a single detail about International Week! Your added touches make this school feel special! Thank you for your time and dedication to our community!

 

 

Shout out to Adrian Ward-Jackson and Amy Lieberman for taking 25 students in grades 6 to Rapid7 for a career day event. Students got a chance to learn about possible technology careers for their future!

 

Shout out to Nina Wessen for dropping off 852lbs of supplies to send Puerto Rico on Saturday. We appreciate your added efforts in seeing this project through. Thank you!

 

Early Release - November 22nd

Wednesday, November 22nd will be an early release day for students. We will operate on a modified schedule for the day. You may view the Early Release Schedule for more information. Please note that there are several changes from the regular schedule, so please be sure to check your scheduled times for lunch and specials. Please also note that dismissal will begin at 1:00 pm. INTERNATIONAL WEEK WRAP-UP

Don’t forget to post a couple of your best photos of International Week activities on the Google Drive. Please add a brief caption about what students were working on! Since several classes are planning to do exchanges this week, Amika will stop by on the Wednesday AFTER Thanksgiving to take down room signs and pick up country stamps. There will also be a survey sent out soon to gather information and feedback on this year’s International Week activities.
Remember that International Week provides just a brief introduction to the richness of our diverse cultural heritage: please review the “Addressing Bias” document for ways to extend global studies throughout the school year. If homeroom teachers hold onto passports, you can encourage students to “stamp” or mark them whenever they learn something about another country or people in the world!

Safety Drill

Thank you for completing the safety drill feedback form. The Admin team appreciates your honest and thoughtful feedback. Most staff felt prepared and appreciated the practice drill. We realized that there is room for improvement especially with our intercom system. We have compiled a list of areas where the intercom in not working. If you have not completed the door locks, keys, and intercom survey, please do so by the end of the day on Monday, November 20, 2017. If you have any questions, please contact Adrian Ward-Jackson.

Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness committee will be performing an environmental audit on Dec 11 (7:30-10am) at the school library. The purpose of the audit is to look for areas in which is in need of environmental and health improvements at the school. To help with the audit, please complete the survey. This will help the committee narrow down specific areas to focus in on during the audit. Please complete the survey by Dec 5th and your name will be entered to win a special Dunkin Donuts treat!

The Health and Wellness Committee will email the results of the survey, the audit, and suggestions for improvements as soon as both are complete. End of Term 1 K-8

The Fall term grading window opens on Monday (11/20) for elementary grades, and closes on December 10th. Since middle school is now also on a 3 term schedule, the grading window for the middle school grades (term T1) has been set to the same dates.

Bulletin Boards Updated by Friday, December 1st

Bulletin boards communicate the values of our school. Bulletin boards are a window into our classrooms that allow us to share the teaching and learning happening inside. Bulletin boards send a message to students that their work is important and valued here. Please update your bulletin board by Friday, December 1st. You must also include the Curley template which describes the learning your students are doing that links to the instructional focus.

Special Education Progress Reports

1. K0/K1 and K2 do not have to complete progress reports this round. This is due to the fact that they do not receive report cards in December.

2. Progress Reports for Grades 1-8 are due by the end of the Day Tuesday, November 28th.

4. When entering progress reports please make sure you a entering in your domain/goal area. There are no headings and you will see all goals for all providers when you log in.

5. Do not click Finalize. Click Save and Move On. Karen and I will do the finalization. If you finalize before all providers have entered they will be locked out.

Staff Text - Free Copies in Upper School Main Office

ALL STAFF (teachers, paras, lunch monitors etc...) can sign out their free copy of Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zarretta Hammond. This will be an anchor text for our community throughout this year and possibly next year as well. Your ILT representatives will be checking in with you about reading the Introduction and Chapter 1. They will lead each team through a text protocol discussion as well. If you are not a part of a team we encourage you to join a team for this learning experience. The books belong to the school however staff may put their names in them and highlight/take notes in the text.
