Curley Cares Gift Drive

We are starting the Curley Cares Gift Drive again this year. Please work with your grade level teams to help us select one student from each grade to be a part of this gift drive. If your team does not have a family in need, please let us know. We need this information by December 1st, this Friday!!!

Curley Cares - Staff Awards

During this week's whole-school PD on Thursday, November 30, 2017 staff members will once again have the opportunity to recognize their colleagues by giving them a Curley Cares award.
  • This is your chance to acknowledge deed s (both big and small) that have made a difference in your work life. So take some time to consider the contributions of the people you work with each day and how their actions support the Curley K-8 "We Care..." philosophy. 
  • Chose one person who you would like to recognize and share your appreciation by filling out the Curley Shares Staff Award form. If you have any problems accessing the form, please contact Kate Davis. 
  • Submissions are due by 7:00pm Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

Preference Sheet

We are beginning the planning process for SY 2018-19 and would like to take into consideration teacher preferences for next year. We are sending these out earlier than the schedule required by the contract so that we can better prepare for the budget process and for meeting the needs of our students for next year. We anticipate that the Curley will have the same grade configuration as this year, with the exception of one additional homeroom in Grade 6. Please fill out the attached form to indicate your preferences for SY 2018-19. Please complete by Friday, December 8, 2017.

Staff Social

Our December Staff Social will take place on Friday, December 1st at Costello's on Centre Street from 3:45pm-6pm. All staff are welcome to attend and mingle!

Middle School Dance

Our first middle school dance in the gym will be held this coming Friday, December 1 starting at 1:50 PM and ending at 2:55 PM. Please reach out to Maria Amy-Moreno for further details.

Artifacts

Please be sure to upload your artifacts on EDFS by Friday, December 15th. You should upload 1-2 artifacts for each goal (two goals) AND each standard (four standards) for a total of 6-12 artifacts. Be sure to upload the data to support your progress with your Student Learning Goal.


Professional Development For Teachers

We will have our 2nd afternoon PD session on Thursday, November 30th from 3:45pm-5:45pm. This is for all teachers. It is the 5th week of the month so there are no leadership team meetings on Wednesday. There will be various sessions taking place:
K1- NAEYC
K2-Grade 2 - Literacy Collaborative
Grade 3-8 & Specialist - Capstone
PACE - ACE Data

School Preview Dates

School Preview Time: It is time for school previews and will we will have prospective families in the building on the following school days:
Tuesday, December 19, 9am-10am
Tuesday, January 23rd, 9am-10am
On Saturday, December 9th from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m there will be a citywide Schools Showcase at TD Gardens.

Bulletin Boards Updated by Friday, December 1st

Bulletin boards communicate the values of our school. Bulletin boards are a window into our classrooms that allow us to share the teaching and learning happening inside. Bulletin boards send a message to students that their work is important and valued here. Please update your bulletin board by Friday, December 1st. You must also include the Curley template which describes the learning your students are doing that links to the instructional focus.

Fall Term Report Card Grading Window for Grades 1 - 8

The fall grading window for students in grades 1-8 is will open from November 20th to December 10th. Please refer to the materials below for instructions on entering grades.
Reminder: After entering or editing grades in the scores tab, teachers must click Post Grades to write the grades to the report cards. Grades will be saved as you enter them but they will not appear on the report cards until you click Post Grades. (Note: Online it will say Grades 1-5 because we changes to that grading schedule)

Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness committee will be performing an environmental audit on Dec 11 (7:30-10am) at the school library. The purpose of the audit is to look for areas in which is in need of environmental and health improvements at the school. To help with the audit, please complete the survey. This will help the committee narrow down specific areas to focus in on during the audit. Please complete the survey by Dec 5th and your name will be entered to win a special Dunkin Donuts treat!

The Health and Wellness Committee will email the results of the survey, the audit, and suggestions for improvements as soon as both are complete. Staff Text - Free Copies in Upper School Main Office

ALL STAFF (teachers, paras, lunch monitors etc...) can sign out their free copy of Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zarretta Hammond. This will be an anchor text for our community throughout this year and possibly next year as well. Your ILT representatives will be checking in with you about reading the Introduction and Chapter 1. They will lead each team through a text protocol discussion as well. If you are not a part of a team we encourage you to join a team for this learning experience. The books belong to the school however staff may put their names in them and highlight/take notes in the text.
