5/30/19 Daily Bulletin

Shout Out

Shout out to Katie Baulier, Lesly Hill, Nubea Martorell, and Jenn Cuartas Cano! Thank you guys for doing such an amazing job today during your parent observation! The parents could tell what a caring and positive culture you have in your classroom.

Shout out to TEAM ABA for hosting a district walkthrough today! It was a pleasure to spend time in classrooms and learn from so many dedicated educators! Thank you for your efforts on behalf of students! Kudos to Team ABA, teachers, paras, strand specialists, COSE, SLP, OT, PT, ABAs, Adaptive PE, nurses, etc... It is truly a team effort!

Shout out to Mr. Diaz for being the peacemaker and successful negotiator between two families whose children were having issues in school. He helped the families understand what measures where being taken in school to reduce tensions between the students as well make it possible for a parent to understand that their child needed additional support.

Shout out to Curley teachers! Climate is consistently amazed at Curley’s ability to get things done. In 5 days, we went from 61% completion of the BIMAS to 92% completion! If you need any help and support to finish that last 8% let us know!

Shout out to the Curley baseball team that attended a 4 hour intensive baseball clinic taught by Esteba Negron (Ms. Moreno's Nephew). Most of the team and parents showed up at English High baseball field this past Saturday. The team players felt more confident to play our next game against the Ohrenberger. Thanks to Victor, Reymon, Neurelis, Nanfer, Yancell, Fernando, Caleb, Josser, Darien, Fernando, Starling, Malyory and the parents of Caleb, Josser, Malyory, and Ammy for being there. Thanks to Madeline V. for supporting this. Thanks to Maria Amy-Moreno for organizing!

 











Shout out to all the middle school teachers, staff, administrators, and students for making the Spring 2019 Middle School Dance a success. Everyone collaborated and things went smoothly. Thanks to Rachel Harris for manning the concession table, Victor, Reymon, Kenny , and Josser for running the DJ booth, Ms. West, Ms. Peck-zoster for sweeping the gym floor during the dance. Amy Lieberman, Sugeily Santos, Sharon Ennis for supervising one side of the gym. Jordi Lotito, Mr. Hirsch, Ms. Boyd, Ms. Navarro, Mr. Tewksbury, Ms. Ricketts for supervising the other side. Adrien Ward-Jackson for supporting me. Mr. Pearson for having his classes in the playing field. Everyone left with a smile and feeling good!!!!! And last but no least THANK YOU to Maria Amy-Moreno for being the best DJ and dance organizer there is!
 

 

BTU Vote

We will vote regarding Open House next year on Thursday, June 6th.
Teachers are required to participate in two 2-hour evening meetings during the school year in order to meet with parents. The first evening meeting in the Fall will be to meet parents and give them information about curriculum and classroom expectations. The other two hours can be used for parent conferences outside of school time later in the year.

Last Curley Shares of the Year!

Use this form to recognize up to three of the students you work with who exhibit consistent or improved understanding of the Curley Cares rules as demonstrated by a specific deed, general conduct, overall academic perseverance and/or improvement, or some other form of participation. Please note the shorter (1-week) timeframe for submission - thanks! Please SUBMIT awards by 4:00pm Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Awards will be presented to students during the Friday, June 7, 2019 Curley Shares assemblies.

Special Education Progress Reports

We are upon our third round of Progress Reports. Grades close on June 14th and Progress Reports are due Tuesday, June 11th at 12pm. This will provide a window for our office and the clerk to review, print, copy, and have progress reports ready to be distributed with report cards the week of June 17th. We need enough time to submit translation requests and have them ready as well.

LGBTQ+ Picnic

Come join us for our annual LGBTQ+ Picnic on Thursday, May 30th at 6PM! All families are welcome to come and bring their own picnic and share in our celebration! The picnic will take place on the Curley field; in case of rain we will be in the upper school cafeteria.

CPT Cycle May 6th - June 19th

As we close out the school year we want to map out the remaining weeks of CPT for teacher teams. Please check the Curley Work Plan Calendar for all your links to meetings and documents.
Meetings week of

K2, 1st and 2nd grade teachers

    The end of year window for BAS is open from May 20 - June 14. Be sure to find the highest instructional level and a hard level for each child. All data must be uploaded to the BAS Spreadsheet by June 17th. Caitlyn will communicate coverage ASAP.

    STAR ELA Spring Benchmark May 28th -31st (Grades 3-8 Only)

    Spring ELA benchmark testing for Grades 3-8 will take place from Tuesday, May 28th through end of day Friday, May 31st. Testing should be scheduled during WIN block or other convenient time. All students, regardless of performance level, must take the spring STAR Reading benchmark assessment. Students can access STAR Reading through Clever under the blue "R" tile. Testing should take no longer than 20 minutes and is group administered. The data we collect provides valuable insights into a child's growth as a reader. Please remind your students of the importance of this testing and be sure to provide a quiet, distraction-free testing environment, so all students can do their best. To assure consistency, all benchmark testing must occur during the prescribed testing window. Please contact Eileen Cronin if you have any questions or concern.

    ANNOUNCING International Week Dates for SY 2019-20!

    Based on data from the 2018 International Committee Feedback survey, International Week for the upcoming school year has been scheduled for the week of December 2-6, 2019. The expectation is that all 56 homerooms will participate in this cultural exchange, sharing what they learn with their buddy classes. As you make plans for next year, we encourage you to start thinking about a country to study and how it might connect to your curriculum

    Curley Arrival Changes 6/1/19

    Starting June 1st we will be changing our arrival procedures and families will no longer be allowed to walk their child to class. This is a pilot to help us prepare for the start of next year. To ensure that our implementation of this new policy goes smoothly, we will be doing the following:
    • Communicating with families about the upcoming changes. This flyer will go home to families to explain the policy change. Please be proactive in reaching out to families you anticipate will struggle with this new policy.
    • Families will be able to give feedback using this form when implementation begins in June.
    • We will also be sending out robocalls over the next month to prepare families.
    • For staff members who encounter families at the door, please use this language to frame and describe our new arrival policy.
    • Finally, please review this arrival document to see revised morning duty posts. It is especially important that those staff members who are posted at doors are able to communicate our new policy to families. 

    Boosterthon

    The SPC is leading the Boosterthon Fundraiser for the 2nd year. The Boosterthon team needs to come in for 10-15 min to meet with each team and explain the process. Boosterthon Fun Run will take place on Wednesday, June 12th.

    School Visit & Observations

    I would like to introduce Dr. Claire White and Karen White from EFA. Both Karen and Claire will be visiting classrooms to conduct an instructional inventory of the practices we use here at Curley across K-8. They will be collecting data the week of April 30-May 25. Please welcome them into our community.

    Detention

    Students in Middle School should be submitted on the Google Form for Detention if they are tardy without a pass, missing from class, or in the hallway without a pass. Adults should ask to see the pass to make sure it has the accurate date and time. Any adults in the building can assign detention if they find students in the hallway without a pass. Please see Ms. Jackson if you have further questions.

    Field Trip Request Procedure

    All field trips requests should be submitted in the following way, check out this powerpoint for additional information on the steps.
    • Fill out electronic form at least 2 weeks in advance. This link will be available in the blog daily. Field Trip Request Form
    • Print your form submission. 
    • Email list of students attending to nurses. 
    • Get nurse and cafeteria signature at least 2 weeks in advance. They can sign anywhere at the bottom of your page. 
    • Turn in to either main office. 
    • Pass out permission slips and have students return. (English p.12, Other Languages)
    • The SPC has allotted each grade level $500 to put towards field trips; any questions should be send to treasurer@curleyk8.com.
