Shout Out

Shout out to our newly elected BTU Building Reps Arleta Faulkner, Erika Mercado, Lourdes Vasquez, MaryClare Moran, Connie Redden and Kristen Willis. We appreciate your leadership, guidance and support for this current school year. Staff are encouraged to reach out to their BTU reps if they need support or clarification around the contract.

Visitors

The Toyama Education Delegation will be visiting our school Wednesday from 9 -11. This group of Japanese educators and business leaders is traveling the Northeast to visit and learn about America's public schools. Amika has graciously agreed to act as tour guide. If you have any questions or if you are interested in hosting a short visit, please contact Mr. Petmezis.

Terra Nova Testing

Between September 28 - October 6, 2015, the TerraNova (3rd edition) in Reading and Mathematics will be given in grades 3, 4, and 5 to determine eligibility for AWC. Please direct all questions to David Diaz.

Summer Reading

Thank you to all the teachers who collected the summer reading calendars from students and submitted their names. We have many students who submitted their summer reading calendar and they will be recognized. You will see our Reader Leader bulletin boards in each building recognizing these students. Each student will receive a free book as well as a bracelet that says Reader Leader. Please direct all questions to Caitlyn Gable and Eileen Cronin.

School Climate Team

The first meeting of the School Climate Team will take place on Wednesday at 3:00pm. The locations is TBD at this time. We are asking teams to send one representative to this meeting to speak on behalf of their grade level.

PD/Awards

Reminder that our first of 6 whole staff meetings will take place on Thursday from 3p-4pm. We are encouraging staff to nominate colleagues for Curley Cares awards by Monday at 4pm by clicking on this link.

Fire Drill

Thank you to the staff that provided feedback around the fire drill. Here are the new evacuation updates that are in effect moving forward. It is important that your evacuation route is posted in the classroom and that you have a system set up with class lists to take attendance once we are outside. The link in the handbook has been updated as well. Please contact David Diaz with any questions.

PARCC

The PARCC’s governing board has established the cut scores for its test. The scale scores will range from 650 to 850, and Level 4 will start at 750. In grades 3-8, a score in Level 4 or higher, signifies readiness for the next level. At the high school level, it signifies college and career readiness. More information is available online. States that administered PARCC in spring 2015 will receive their scores in two blocks: high school and grades 3-8. Each PARCC state will release its own scores on their own timetable. The DESE will share results in mid-Fall.

Spring 2016 PARCC Testing Times

The PARCC states have re-examined testing times again following the spring 2015 administration and adjusted the times as part of a set of test design changes. Please see here for details about the Spring 2016 PARCC unit testing times. (FYI - The state has not yet voted that we are officially moving towards PARCC testing this year but it is likely.)
