Grades 3-8: Reading Intervention Planning

Plans are now finalized to launch an intervention block for grades 3 through 8 for school year 2015-16.  Our aim is full implementation of the WIN block – What I Need – by the week of October 5th, with some grades beginning sooner, if preliminary reading assessment is completed and student materials have arrived from the district.

Screening for Reading Intervention 

The document linked below includes a flow chart outlining how students will be screened for participation in WIN along with a brief description of the available intervention programs and assessment tools.  Please note that all students will be screened using either DAZE (grades 3-6) or MAZE (grades 7 & 8). Both assessments can be delivered to your entire class in one sitting of approximately 15-20 minutes.

Moving Forward

I will be distributing a set of testing materials to each classroom during the first week of school. Please plan to administer and score the test as soon as possible.  Students who do not meet the grade level benchmark will require additional testing, which must be delivered one-on-one.  We are planning to partner with City Year to accomplish this task.
