Shout Out

Shout out to Ms. Ferro and Ms. Peters for starting a class twitter account. Today Mayor Walsh held and online Twitter chat and out students submitted questions to him at #AskMJW #backtoschool and he responded check it out! This is a great way to show students how to use social media in a productive manner. Thanks!

Walkthrough Reflections

Team, I have truly enjoyed walking through classrooms these last two days and seeing students excited and engaged in learning. I want to remind staff that setting routines is some of the most important work you will do at the start of the year both behaviorally and instructionally. I have seen students practicing for dismissal, learning non-verbal signals to ask to go to the bathroom, practicing how to walk in line, how to organize a binder, where to store homework and so much more…

Just a friendly reminder that every classroom should have objectives posted on the board for each lesson and an agenda with times listed. These are great references for students while they are learning and if you start the routine in September it can continue through day 180. I have seen several staff giving pretests to assess students baseline skill level. I look forward to seeing future lessons developed based on these outcomes. If any staff need support around writing objectives or analyzing some data please contact an administrator or one of our two coaches, Caitlyn Gable (grades K-2) and Eileen Cronin (grades 3-8).

Introducing Joe Dolan

Joe is my Leadership Effectiveness Director (LED) through the Lynch Leadership Academy at Boston College. He is a leadership coach supporting me in my journey to become a more effective school leader. You will see Joe through the building this year doing classroom observations, sitting in meeting etc… Joe’s role is to provide me with feedback on my interactions with staff, students and families and to assure that my communication is clear to you all. He will have no part in evaluating staff or giving you individual feedback. Joe is a former teacher and principal in the Cambridge Public Schools. Please welcome him to the Curley Community!

Kindergarten Starts Tomorrow!

Just a reminder to all staff that all K0, K1 & K2 will report for their first day of school tomorrow. Approximately 170 students will report and many of whom this is their first school experience. We are asking all K staff to wearing their yellow Countdown to Kindergarten shirts to welcome these students.

Middle School Specialty Electives

Tomorrow is an elective day in the middle school and the schedule (including lunch times) changes. Please be sure to review the schedule changes with students during homeroom. The following link is the schedule for Middle School specialties on Thursdays and Fridays. During this time, students will be able to hear more about each elective and ask questions in order to make a more informed choice.
