Shout Out

Shout out to a great team effort for our Curley volleyball team and 7th grade captain Juana Marte. While trailing 14-11 in the 3rd and final match, Juana completed 4 straight serves for a 15-14 victory over the Roosevelt!  She exemplified courage and leadership and we are all proud our her. 

Open House

Just a reminder that Open House will take place tomorrow from 5pm-7pm. Please make sure that student work is hung both in the classroom and in the hallway (if you have a board). The bulletin boards that are completed look fantastic but please assure that all boards are filled by the start of the event at 5pm. We plan to end promptly at 7pm and a 15min count down will be made at 6:45pm and then a final call at 7pm. Administrators will be walking around to check in with families but text us if you need us.

Win Block "Soft Launch"

We are putting the finishing touches on our assessment data in preparation for the Curley WIN (What I Need) block.  Thanks to grade 3-8 grade level teams for meeting with Olivia and Eileen this week to discuss student assignments!  We’re planning a “soft launch” of WIN next week.  Here are a few things to consider as you begin to plan logistics for the upcoming week.

• Review student rosters to assure that all students have a WIN assignment.  We will be progress-monitoring students once we have a couple of weeks of instruction under their belts and can make adjustments then if necessary.
• Teams should work out a transition plan to assure students arrive to their WIN classroom in a timely and orderly fashion and should practice making the transition with students during intervention times Monday through Wednesday of next week.
• During this transition week, teachers should establish group norms for their WIN class and ask students to pick a team name to refer to the group.  We want to be sure to use the team name, rather than the name of the intervention, when referring to students.  For example, a grade level PALS group may be referred to as the “Tiger Team”.  
• Introduce the WIN block concept to students – extra instructional time to improve reading skills - and describe the specific program.
• Plan for access to Chromebook carts if your intervention is computer-based.  Also, be sure you have a list of students’ user names and passwords so students can practice logging on to the intervention.

Additional Just Words student kits should be arriving within the next two weeks, as well as pocket charts. Please contact Eileen if you need other supplies to support your WIN activities or if you have any questions regarding the logistics of how the WIN block will run. Together we can make the WIN block a “win-win” for students and staff!

Open Circle

We are your Open Circle coaches Eva Banks and Christina Burke. We would like to kick the year off with a check in. Some of you are already using the Open Circle curriculum and would like support.  Others are new to the school and we would like to make sure you have everything you need to have Open Circle up and running as soon as possible.Please join us for a welcome breakfast: Friday October 23rd at 7:45 a.m. in room 212 second floor Lower School Please make it a point to attend, especially if you are new to the Curley.
